aibu to hate my grandma?

So, she is 68 years old, and up to a point she was what I believed to be a loving, kind and respectable human being, I have recently found out that she stood there and watched while her ex husband beat up my mum as a child! She also told my mum when she was a little girl that she had cancer...she didn't btw and I find myself do utterly disgusted by this woman, I've also found out she snogged a 16!!! Yes 16 year old in a local club about a year ago, once again infront of my mum! And then to top it off has had a 3some with the disgustingly smelly carwash fellas from Albania. I had to stay with her for a week once as me and my partner had a falling out and she had a hamster....bear with Me.... She used to put ham in its cage and fruit and hamsters won't eat meat so it was off and smelling, she had one of her friends around and blamed the smell on me! She talks about me behind my back and is one of them people who if she is not involved in a conversation will bark out a laugh, just to make people look at her! She chases around foreign men in their 20's, I am utterly repulsed by this woman! I unfriended her on fb....I know, sounds childish...just because she was messaging me EVERYDAY pretending to be this sweet little grandma when I know what a mucky slag she is, she found out that I'd deleted her because she spies on my profile every day and apparently she cried, and tbh I just dont care, and now she's hassling family members asking them what she's done to upset me! Sorry this is stupid long....almost forgot that when I was 20 weeks pregnant, we were all having a family meal at my mum's, I started to have a nap as I was struggling with exhaustion, she started putting this weird teddy in my face while I was sleeping because she'd gotten so pissed at the meal, so I politely told her to fuck off, she then proceeded to drink even more tequila...no one else was drinking... And then me my sister and mum were in a conversation when she decided she was gunna fall down the stairs and piss herself on the floor, she was pretending to be unconscious, no one saw her fall, just heard banging, I thought if shes really injured she'll want an ambulance as she was still feigning unconsciousness, low and behold as soon as I mentioned phoning 999 she made a miraculous recovery! AIBU???? Dear god it feels good to rant!

Nothing to add really,you have discovered she's not who you thought she was and do not want to associate with her anymore. Seems sensible to me.

She's one of them people that if u actually tell her about herself she'll just cry and make herself look pathetic, you know like an innocent old pensioner! I understand she seems quite comical but I just think she's an absolute knob head, I said to my mum im just gonna tell her to stop talking to me but my mum always begs me not to!!

I'm sorry joanna, I didn't mean to make light of your situation. Just because she's an old lady doesn't mean she can't also be a vile person., sounds like she's been vile all along.

Good for you for standing up to her. She sounds like a nightmare and an embarrassment. I'd cut her out of my life too.

well she is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but to be fair she did take you io for a week when you split with your boyfriend ,she has you oter for lunch and you fall asleep not really the height oe good manners to say nothing oe telling her to fuck off

I was quite sympathetic towards you until I came to the 'she chases foreign men' & 'had a threesome with the smelly car was fellas from Albania'.

I suppose if you had written 'she chases men' & 'had a threesome with the smelly car wash fellas' it wouldn't have sounded so dramatic and stupid.

I think if she wants to know why you unfriended her maybe you should tell her, since she is asking and is family.

I assume the watching your mum be beaten was the last straw, and the lying about having cancer? I would tell her that is the reason.

And before you say I'm racist and start a big debate because I guess that's what you are hinting at, they could be any race, but she actually turns her nose up.at English men or foreign men HER OWN AGE, my mum is in a lovely relationship of 3 years with a man from Greece and I've never seen 2 people so happy! They love eachother, whereas grandma thinks that these men find her attractive and tbh she looks like a shriveled up pig! Im friends with the owner of the car wash, who is also Albanian, and it was him who told me because his staff were laughing about it! I work in a shop and had to serve them daily and they were always laughing at me, so thats why I hate them!

The cancer thing us utterly vile, and then she posted on fb one of those threads about cancer and beating it and stuff and I thought how absolutely insensitive. For the people who have actually suffered with it, and she makes up something like that! My mum won't let me tell her why, I'm quite blunt in the way I talk and I would tell her everything as I think she should know how her behavior affects her family.

Your OP reminds me somewhat of my own granny, with whom I have cut all contact.

My only contribution is that next time writing with paragraphs would be handier for the readers.

Apart from that, YANBU. Focus on your baby and your pregnancy, you are well within your rights to cut contact with the old bat if you want to, despite what she (and your mum) might say.

Sorry OP but the falling down the stairs thing is hilarious! She does sound horrible though. Cut her off and be done with it. If the rest of the family is sensible they'll do the same.

Yanbu. I don't blame you for wanting to distance yourself from this women particular given the horrible things that happened to your mum and her embarrassing behavior. Does she have a problem with alcohol ? It does sound as if she is mentally ill
