When I was at university in Glasgow, milk was 'coo juice'.

Tee2072 · 22/05/2013 18:45

You misunderstood my post?

BegoniaBampot · 22/05/2013 18:49

diluting juice, fresh x juice, ginger - simple.

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 22/05/2013 18:54

Yeah, I stupidly assumed Americans called Koolaid squash. Hmm

YY to coo-juice Wink

Fakebook · 22/05/2013 18:56

In reply to your title:

Yes it is.

Tee2072 · 22/05/2013 19:09

Ah, I see. I had never heard of squash, the drink, until I moved to Belfast.

HullMum · 22/05/2013 19:10

yanbu, and I always would say yes to juice then be saddened to find purple puke ribena in my glass

JollyOrangeGiant · 22/05/2013 19:21

YABU.

Us Scots call it juice. Everything cold an non-alcoholic that isn't milk or water is juice.

Just like we say tatties instead of potatoes and outwith is a word here. we're not wrong, just different.

The apple diluting juice I have from Morrisons says "High Juice" on the front.

Scrubber · 22/05/2013 19:31

I'm English and live in Scotland. It took a while to get used to juice meaning squash. That's bad enough but in Glasgow, 'ginger' means any fizzy drink, or' fizzy juice' as Dh calls it.

forevergreek · 22/05/2013 20:16

Squash - concentrate stuff you dilute, lasts years
Juice - fresh squeeze orange ( or other flavour), kept in fridge
Fizzy- coke/ fanta etc

So yes squash and juice aren't interchangeable as completely different things. Squash is usually water, sugar, flavourings. Where as Juice only have natural fruit sugars in

BigBoobiedBertha · 22/05/2013 20:45

LadyBeagleEyes - Yes you are all wrong.Smile

It says what it is called on the bottle.

rainbowbrite1980 · 22/05/2013 20:47

It annoys me! people ask if my children want juice, I say yes please, and they get given squash, which I'd have said no thanks to and asked for water instead!

EarlGreyTeabag · 22/05/2013 20:47

Agree with forevergreek.

ReturnofSaturn · 22/05/2013 21:15

Ive never used the word 'squash' for it in my life.

We have always used 'cordial' for that.

And juice for actual orange juice/apple juice etc.
Im from Lancashire if its a regional thing...

LadyBeagleEyes · 22/05/2013 21:29

Well it doesn't say fags, tabs etc, on a packet of cigarettes does it BBB,
I still call them fags though.
Oh and I hoover rather than vacuum, as most people do.
Fuck what it says on the bottle Smile.

2rebecca · 22/05/2013 23:01

I was brought up with "squash" as diluting juice and "juice" as the stuff only containing fruit juice.
I got confused the first time I ordered orange juice in a pub and got given orange squash. "no I want that" I said pointing to a bottle of Britvic OJ. "Oh you mean fresh orange juice" the bar man said. Why people call it "fresh orange" when it's been in a bottle or container for months is mystifying. It isn't fresh, freshly squeezed OJ is different again.
Diluting juice should be specified as diluting juice, squash or cordial.
If I ask for orange juice I don't want synthetic crap.

2rebecca · 22/05/2013 23:02

I'm in Scotland

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 22/05/2013 23:11

LB - I smoke fags and I, too, hoover. I also serve up lunch at around 12pm and dinner at around 7pm.
