Really.

Although i have an ordinary kindle and a fancyphone.

But i want a fire.

Tell me fire owners....

Do you read books on it like a ordinary kindle?

Is it good for mumsnetting?

Do you need the HD version?

There's an offer on at the mo and I'm working 2 nights extra while on holiday so feel the need to treat myself.

Marking place, have just brought dd2 one for her birthday next week but have never used one myself!

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 23/03/2013 10:04

Oh and get it on amazon and you get a free £15 gift card at the moment.

TeggieCampbeggBlegg · 23/03/2013 10:05

But i don't need one.

I'm debating this. I have an original one and a kindle touch and an iPad.

However I would like a fire hd as my dh always complains that I'm hogging the iPad and I would like a kindle paperwhite but can't justify that as my touch is only a year old.

Blush I'm a kindle slut aren't I?

ByTheSea · 23/03/2013 10:07

I'm on mine now. Love it. I read books on it, FB, games, internet, etc. I am less likely to write a longer post than if I was on my laptop though and the autocorrect does my head in.

OohShinyChocolateHollowBunnies · 23/03/2013 10:07

I don't need one either teggie but I really really want it!

TeggieCampbeggBlegg · 23/03/2013 10:09

For reading can you hold it in one hand?

MrsKeithRichards · 23/03/2013 10:09

I love mine. Was a surprise present at Christmas, I would have been happy with a basic kindle as I was totally e reader less!

It's lit, I think that's the biggest attraction over the basic kindle although I think some of the models in between are back lit. I'm no expert on kindles or tablets but can tell you I've not fired my laptop up in months, it's great for Skype, facebook, browsing, mumsnet, music (got aux cable for a quid and connect to my stereo) you tube and everything I've wanted it to do. And reading, great for reading.

You can watch films on it through love film, not done that yet but the display is big enough to mean this would be fine. I got the hd but don't know the spec differences.

Nagoo · 23/03/2013 10:09

The non-hd one is £90 at car phone warehouse. Martin Lewis told me.

TeggieCampbeggBlegg · 23/03/2013 10:10

Or should i wait until my dear normal kindle dies again? (i'm on number 5!!!)

heronsfly · 23/03/2013 10:10

I got one for Christmas, I love it, read lots of books I like the fact that its lit (middle aged eyesight ) Great for mumsnet ect.i watch I player and listen to the archers :) I have always got it with me, only trouble is my dcs are rather fond of it too Grin

MrsKeithRichards · 23/03/2013 10:11

Can hold it one handed but find I need to use my other hand to 'turn' the page. I also got the cover come stand thing which is great.

TeggieCampbeggBlegg · 23/03/2013 10:12

I am. .. This close to deciding.

I should wait til the rnd of the month (when i get paid for my extra shifts)

See for I player do you just go to the BBC website or is there an app?

I was told by someone at sky when then were badgering me into adding the movies that you could get sky go on the fire hd but you can't, I'm pissed off at that as it would be handy.

I don't think your range of apps is as good as the I store or google play but adequate. Will only get better I'm guessing.

You can't get candy crush saga. This upset me but is probably for the best.

Merrylegs · 23/03/2013 10:15

I am on mine now. Good for reading but because it's a tablet you do get distracted by browsing web. Also yes, auto correct is v irritating. But you can slide your finger around the keyboard and an orange wiggly line types out the words for you.

Merrylegs · 23/03/2013 10:16

There's an iplayer app. Actually I've found there is an app for most things.

crashdoll · 23/03/2013 10:17

I don't like mine. I find it slow (compared to when I've borrowed someone's iPad). I miss my old kindle which got smashed in an unfortunately sofa related incident.

chicaguapa · 23/03/2013 10:18

I have a kindle touch and have had Paperwhite envy since it came out. But the new touch update has given me the features I wanted from the Paperwhite, except the lighting, so I've now deleted it off my wishlist.

I do have the Microsoft tablet though so don't have a need for a tablet and therefore don't covet the kindle Fire. DC want a kindle and I'm undecided whether to get them the Paperwhite or Fire. The latter is £99 as Carphone Warehouse at the moment, but I'm concerned that they will play games at bedtime, when they're supposed to be reading.

ChocolateBridesmaid · 23/03/2013 10:22

I am using it right now, my old Kindle has a layer of dust on it and looks a bit sad :( but my new exciting Kindle Fire Hd is AMAZING.

I signed up to Lovefim on a Groupon deal, I play games on it, access the internet, Facebook, mumsnet etc oh and read of course. The screen is also backlit for reading in bed, it is perfect.

You definitely NEED one

BertieBotts · 23/03/2013 10:22

They're pointless IMO. If you want a kindle, get a normal kindle. If you want a tablet, get an android - or an iPad. The fire is heavy and nothing special - a decent android tablet does everything it does and more.

mirpuppet · 23/03/2013 10:25

concern about kids playing games is valid.

I have a Fire HD and like it so does DC.

However, you can have a radio programme playing in the Iplayer App and play a game. So I have to watch what DC is doing -- as the device is a multitasking.

BalloonSlayer · 23/03/2013 10:28

DS1 (12) got one for Christmas. He ADORES it.

MrsKeithRichards · 23/03/2013 10:44

Oh just found the app! Thanks!

Search I player you get a load of irrelevant crap.

Search iPlayer you get it!

wonderingsoul · 23/03/2013 10:51

i would get an android tablet. you can see use them as ereaders but will have a better spec then the fire.

TeggieCampbeggBlegg · 23/03/2013 10:54

But that's virtually what my phone is (galaxy note).

What's the battery life on the Fire like?
