Really.

Although i have an ordinary kindle and a fancyphone.

But i want a fire.

Tell me fire owners....

Do you read books on it like a ordinary kindle?

Is it good for mumsnetting?

Do you need the HD version?

There's an offer on at the mo and I'm working 2 nights extra while on holiday so feel the need to treat myself.

Fatlazymummy Thank you!!!

Paperwhite gives you a choice about back light or no backlight I think, doesn't it?

For me, backlighting would be worse than useless. I couldn't read outside, so no good on holiday. Backlighting hurts my eyes after a bit, so no lazy reading days. A permanently backlit kindle would = me only reading actual books again.
I don't get the point of tablets, never mind Kindle Fire.

DC bought themselves a Kindle Fire HD each today with their birthday/ Christmas money. We weren't sure which one to get, but for an extra £20 it had double the memory of the Kindle Fire and an anti-glare screen so it seemed worth it. John Lewis price matched the Carphone Warehouse price of £139 so we got £30 off each. DC are really pleased with them.

I've disabled the email/ internet browsing though so I haven't tested that. I don't know how it compares with the Nexus 7, but it's cheaper and I like the interface better than the Android tablets. They can read books, play games, watch films which is all they need to do.

I guess for £30 more than the cost of a Paperwhite I can see the sense in getting a Kindle Fire HD instead and having a bit more functionality. I would suggest testing the Kindle reading experience on each though, as that's my most important criteria and I wouldn't compromise on that.

You can adjust the brightness, I've used mine outside with no problems.
