I've had a couple of friends who've done it very quickly recently! Good for them
Just wondering what's average? Guess it depends on age.....

EuroShagmore · 02/01/2013 15:17

7 fecking years. And patience is not my strong point.

silvercup · 02/01/2013 15:19

Exactly one year after we first met. DD was born the very next day!

TheCatIsEatingIt · 02/01/2013 15:20

A year and a week. Got married 9 months after that and now ttc #1!

meMillyme · 02/01/2013 15:20

8 months, married a year later.

HollyBerryBush · 02/01/2013 15:21

I told my mate I was going to marry my DH 2 years before we even started dating Grin

Marriage was discussed after a few weeks, we co-rented a property but I laid it out that no way was I going to be perpetually shacked up and no way would I have children out of wedlock, he proposed within a few days of us moving in together, married within 6 months of that time frame.

Age does play a big part - we were both late 20's and the time was right - but we had been in and out of each others social group for about 4 years. First timje I saw him I knew he was perfect husband material.

waitingtobeamummy · 02/01/2013 15:21

3months.....and then 7 years later we married!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 02/01/2013 15:22

He has asked me every day for years. Cant remember when the first time was.

ItsALongWayToPickAWilly · 02/01/2013 15:22

4 years, we've been engaged for 4 years, waiting one more year till we get married. I'm not one to rush things!

I could never get married to someone after only a year together, I'd feel like I barely knew them

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 02/01/2013 15:22

We were living together, engaged and pregnant within 3 months and married within 9 months, 13 years on we are still happy (most of the time). I was 19 and he was 32 so it wasn't very well received by anyone.

Crawling · 02/01/2013 15:23

I've been engaged twice once 6 months second time 6 weeks but I was accidently pg so he was doing the honourable thing 8 years on still not married but that is my choice as I want to wait till I can afford my dream wedding.

spilttheteaagain · 02/01/2013 15:23

5 months. But had already been discussing getting married for a couple of months by then. Engaged 15 months then married at the tender ages of 20 and 21 Shock. 6.5 years and 2 DC later still very happy together Smile

closerthanclose · 02/01/2013 15:24

Four years - a complete surprise! It wasn't a priority for me but made sense for practical reasons. It was a good length of time for us to be together I think, we knew each other well by then. I've known older friends who have got engaged v quickly within months, but often because their biological clocks are ticking and they're in a hurry, but it has rarely worked out.

grumblinalong · 02/01/2013 15:24

About 4 months in, then retracted next day claiming alcohol influence. Secretly was pleased as wasn't sure myself even though I said yes. Proposed properly with ring 5 years later.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 02/01/2013 15:25

I asked him when we'd been going out just under a year. But I had to ask because before that, he'd made it clear that, for religious reasons, he wouldn't want to get into a serious relationship with someone he didn't want to marry, and we moved in together a few months after getting together. So I suppose I knew after a few months and we eventually made the big decision after just shy of a year.

We were 23 and 21 when we got together and 25 and 23 when we got married.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 02/01/2013 15:26

We met when we were 18, became romantically involved when we were 22, made the decision together when we were 24 that we wanted to get married, and got married at 25. This year will be our fifteenth anniversary. So time from first date to setting a date = 2 years.

hygienequeen · 02/01/2013 15:26

A couple of months in he asked what I'd say if he proposed, then within a year we were engaged, married two years after that - been together 16 years Grin

RyleDup · 02/01/2013 15:26

7 years. Finally got married 13 years after we first met Grin

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2013 15:26

3 days.

I told him to ask me again when he was sober. He never did. I had to take him to the jewelers a year later. (He did pay for the ring though).

NinaHeart · 02/01/2013 15:26

Four and a half years. And married almost two years after that.

ChristmasNamechangeBridezilla · 02/01/2013 15:27

About a year and a half, perhaps a little longer.

Closer-I am very glad we waited because I think we would have failed if we got married early. I never thought getting married would change a relationship but have been proven very wrong. It feels so different.

flossy101 · 02/01/2013 15:27
