To Not Know How to List this fecking Awful Sofa...

..On The Ebay.

Right, dp has a friend, they used to live together, friend is lovely, but my God he has the worst taste ever. I'm talking he is into stuff from before Changing Rooms came along, stuck in 1991. Bless him.

Anyway, he knows I sell all my old tat via Facebook and EBay, not for lots of cash, but have had a few "touches" as he refers to them and got more than I bargained for. So, he needs to sell his old sofa and has asked me to sell it for him on EBay.

I don't mind doing that at all. Except he has no idea that
a) salmon pink leather sofas with wooden bits are not the height of fashion
b) most sofas go for pennies now
c) it fecking minging

This sofa is so out dated, Barbara Cartland would have said no despite the sheer pinkness of it.

He spent 5 grand on it, and thinks he will get at least £500 for it. He'll be lucky to get £50.

What shall I do? I have said I will list it, but I don't know how to tell him if it doesn't sell why it didn't. I cannot just say "mates, its bloody awful" can I?

I second MmeLindor, it us dusky pink, as in the sort of pink you get during a sunset i.e dusk!

Oblomov · 30/11/2012 06:31

Best we have estimates for how much it IS actually going to sell for.
Like some have said, it appears there is a market for this monstrosity.

I have revised my previous thoughts and think it will go for £125

Anyone think it will go higher?

Oblomov · 30/11/2012 06:33

Are the 967 people who have viewed it , all MN'ers? Wink

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 30/11/2012 07:23

Can we ask questions on the listing??!

pigletmania · 30/11/2012 07:25

It's not bad but I would not pay £500. In cream it would be quite nice. Me clutching at straws here

pigletmania · 30/11/2012 07:27

Twiggy that's grim, op friends sofa knocks the spots off that

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 30/11/2012 08:17

It has 55 watchers! dp is in hysterics.

I really hope its not just you lot watching/viewing it, although we haven't said to the sofa's owner how many hits its had.

I prefer sofas you can take the covers off and replace, you can dye them then

Hey OP - I agree it's pretty yuk, but, somebody may like it! There are a few things you could do (in my opinion - feel free to ignore) to increase it's chances of selling...

  • Add a few more key search words to the title, perhaps "sofa" "settee" "dark wood" "chair" "antique style" etc. Will get more hits from real buyers searching for something they want rather than just piss taking MN'ers :)
  • The cushions do not match, they are even worse than the sofa! I would personally take them off.
  • What "make" is it? A popular one? Perhaps add that to the listing if so.
  • You are going to need to state any damage (I can see on one of the photos there's some wear on the seats and state if it has been kept in a smokers house. Otherwise you're going to have a disappointed buyer and get shit feedback on your account for his old minging sofa!

I'm bet there's loads of watchers! :)

PessaryPam · 30/11/2012 09:27

I'm one of the 55 just for fun Grin

cheekybaubles · 30/11/2012 09:41

So the vote is that it is 'dusky'? I really don't want to have spent my whole life saying the wrong word.

ProbationProbationProbation · 30/11/2012 09:41

Did the cushions really come with it? They are different bloody awful

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/11/2012 12:29

For all we knock this eyesore's appearance, if it's comfy that's a plus. Friends of ours had a classic Chesterfield, very elegant, dominated the room. Ye gods was it uncomfortable to sit on!

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 30/11/2012 12:58

Now that's a good point Donkey- my sofa is very modern, and square and plain brown leather. Its bloody crap for getting comfy on of an evening as the arms have a limited amount of padding to them. They are also both two seaters, and being 5 feet 8, lazing on them length ways is not an option!

I used to have a very expensive Habitat sofa which wasn't leather but had removable covers. It lasted well, except it faded as we had to wash it loads due to both the dcs being very small. We dyed it black, which gave us another year with it before the springs went from the dcs jumping on it.

At least this one has the solid build that makes it last years. Even if it does resemble a fanjo or Arsene Wenger's face.

I would think it would suit Peter Stringfellow, he likes a fanjo after all......

SavoyCabbage · 01/12/2012 10:27

The cushions are so bad that if in a gunman situation I had to have the sofa or the cushions, I would choose the sofa.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 01/12/2012 10:33

There could be a last minute flurry of bidding! .

picnicbasketcase · 01/12/2012 10:35

How many watchers now OP?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 01/12/2012 10:38

Ugh I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks sitting on it would feel like sitting in a fanj.

Ever wondered what it feels like to be a penis? Let this unique sofa envelop you in its sort pink folds...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 01/12/2012 10:40

soft pink folds

musicalendorphins · 01/12/2012 10:50

Gwendoline, it makes me quiver, with anticipation
