To Not Know How to List this fecking Awful Sofa...

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 28/11/2012 18:23

..On The Ebay.

Right, dp has a friend, they used to live together, friend is lovely, but my God he has the worst taste ever. I'm talking he is into stuff from before Changing Rooms came along, stuck in 1991. Bless him.

Anyway, he knows I sell all my old tat via Facebook and EBay, not for lots of cash, but have had a few "touches" as he refers to them and got more than I bargained for. So, he needs to sell his old sofa and has asked me to sell it for him on EBay.

I don't mind doing that at all. Except he has no idea that
a) salmon pink leather sofas with wooden bits are not the height of fashion
b) most sofas go for pennies now
c) it fecking minging

This sofa is so out dated, Barbara Cartland would have said no despite the sheer pinkness of it.

He spent 5 grand on it, and thinks he will get at least £500 for it. He'll be lucky to get £50.

What shall I do? I have said I will list it, but I don't know how to tell him if it doesn't sell why it didn't. I cannot just say "mates, its bloody awful" can I?

No it isn't I promise Dinosaurs. I have a nice modern square brown leather sofa in my house (phew).

I may have to nick that description shriekingharpy

dp is pissing himself laughing at these. Apparently, if we all think the decor he has now is bad, you should've seen it when they shared a house- to this day, he still has them apparently, but how's this for tacky- leopard print throws on the wall! Dp used to despair at some of the items he had then too.

As I say, he is an utter sweetheart, but has no taste whatsoever.

If that was in Ireland (which is where I live) I'd buy it for the sheer novelty value. I think my DH would find it comforting Wink

diddl · 29/11/2012 17:05

I´d love a pink leather sofa-but even I don´t like it!

I hate the wooden bits & it actually looks broken/saggy to me-the gaps between the back & seat where grey shows through?

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 29/11/2012 17:10

FOFF - why is your computer chair at his house?? Hmm

It's really your lounge suite isn't it Grin

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 29/11/2012 17:12

PessaryPam - however many people are on and are lurking on this thread plus none I'd say Grin

BigBirdisSaved · 29/11/2012 17:36

You know how Lisa Rinna's lips were before she had reduction surgery? That's what this sofa looks like.

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 29/11/2012 17:50

No, its not, the pics of his suite were taken on a different camera, he brought that over and uploaded them to my pc. My chair isn't at his house, it wouldn't fit!
I thought if I was putting the sofa on, I may as well get rid of a couple of pairs of jeans and one of dps guitars (he has 4, this one he's barely played).
That would not get through my door.

Grin

Does he now understand he'll be lucky to sell it at all, let alone get £500 for it? Poor bloke.

Oblomov · 29/11/2012 18:07

Ha ha. This is Fab.
cheekybaubles, I too thought it was dusky pink Blush

He won't get £100 , surely?
But it can be relisted. Haven't you told him that suites go for nothing on e-bay ( let alone his VILE cigarette "Prolapsed vagina") - ha ha , brilliant Grin

Op you HAVE to tell him that he is way off the mark with his pricing.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 29/11/2012 18:09

I am actually colourblind. And even I can tell you those are not matching cushions.

I'm pretty sure my ex-boyfriend's mum had that sofa, back in...ooh... '91 maybe? It just screams arse-end of the 80's, dontcha think? But you say 2004?! ShockConfused

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 29/11/2012 18:19

No, definitely 2004, it has the safety tag whatnots on it too. We rang and double checked.

I think he kind of gets the idea now that he is so not getting that amount for it. Hopefully he does anyway!

Although, I have had an Indian gentleman ask about whether it will definitely be able to be delivered so perhaps there is a market for it- shocking as that is!

KittyFane1 · 29/11/2012 18:36

It will sell I tell you! Your friend will share his taste with plenty of others. DFS used to be full of sofas like his!

SingingTunelessly · 29/11/2012 18:41

But. It is awful. Well done you for offering to sell it. Grin

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 29/11/2012 18:50

The explanation that you're looking for is
"there's so many sofas on Freecycle nowadays that people on a tight budget tend to look there, and the bottom has fallen out of the second hand market"

It's exerting a sort of magnetic appeal. I'm sure there used to be a blob monster in the Hell levels of Diablo II based on that sofa.

Mandy2003 · 29/11/2012 19:34

Damn you eBay! The accursed item comes up on the front page whenever I sign in to eBay now Shock - it will start suggesting similar ones soon I expect.

Lovecat · 29/11/2012 21:35

"People who looked at this item also looked at:" the mind boggles!

:o

In all fairness, a friend of mine had a sofa like that 10 years ago only in what was called dusty jade (hideous paleish green) and although it was foul to look at it was incredibly comfortable to sprawl on. Still wouldn't give it houseroom, though.

tiggy114 · 29/11/2012 22:42

Lovecat my mum had the pale green version! Like washed out herb green. God i forgot all about it. And the cat used to scratch the arms so she had pea green arm covers draped over each end! Urghh.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 29/11/2012 23:36

oh that colour Confused looks comfy though!

this thread has made me giggle... especially kitty's comment Grin

have also added to watch list. im hoping it sells now

MmeLindor · 29/11/2012 23:48

It's dusky pink. The colour. Not dusty.

That is one ugly sofa. Ours I similar but thankfully beige.

Monty27 · 29/11/2012 23:55

Gets bleach for eyes.

Who would have thought a sofa could be so ugly Shock
