about the word "frape"??

Logged onto FB this morning and was subjected to no less than 3 posts including this odious word.

In a fit of pique I posted a status along the lines of "For the love of God people, please stop using the word "frape". It makes you look insensitive and uneducated".

I know, I know, FB is the work of the devil and I shouldn't care but these are otherwise vaguely intelligent people and it is a hateful word is it not??

Or is it a harmless word and I'm overreacting?

Disclaimer: I'm at best pre-menstrual, at worst preggo so I may just be a tad snippier than usual Blush.

Yep, AF is always right.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 22:12

Fast learner AF. :)

Anyway, this thread has given me food for thought. I've shuddered at "rape" being used to mean good and "my tutor will rape me if I don't do this essay" , to paraphrase FromEsme's comment about her colleague. So whilst my stance on there being more than one definition of rape isn't factually incorrect, I may well have been over looking how similar "frape" is to those other uses of the word rape I found so unpleasant.

Portofino · 19/11/2012 22:12

Well at least I have never known her be wrong.

AnyFucker · 19/11/2012 22:14

Sometimes "facts" can obscure something that you would normally otherwise feel

Using the word "frape" feels wrong. < shrug >

AnyFucker · 19/11/2012 22:15

porto...it happened once, in 1989. There was a furore and a kerfuffle. The world stopped turning for a moment. Wink

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 22:16

Barrister Porto? :)

Point taken about mentioning my job all the time by the way. As has been noted,I'm new,I'll learn that nobody cares quite quickly!

AnyFucker · 19/11/2012 22:18

You are right, Alis, we don't really care, but we do notice

BTW, if I told you my job I would have to kill you.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 22:19

True AF,very true. I'm not so stubborn I can't see now that I was missing the point being made earlier on in the thread...just slow to catch on sometimes.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 22:21

I shan't mention it again, unless the thread actually asks a specific question about something to do with what I do.

Portofino · 19/11/2012 22:22

We'll have to stop the pole dancing, AF, I reckon, if we stand any chance of being taken seriously on MN these days. It was OK when Cod was about....

AnyFucker · 19/11/2012 22:24

I know porto...these nipple tassles are creasing me...

Portofino · 19/11/2012 22:28

And my thong is rubbing on my CS scar.
