about the word "frape"??

BunnyLeBOOwski · 19/11/2012 18:58

Logged onto FB this morning and was subjected to no less than 3 posts including this odious word.

In a fit of pique I posted a status along the lines of "For the love of God people, please stop using the word "frape". It makes you look insensitive and uneducated".

I know, I know, FB is the work of the devil and I shouldn't care but these are otherwise vaguely intelligent people and it is a hateful word is it not??

Or is it a harmless word and I'm overreacting?

Disclaimer: I'm at best pre-menstrual, at worst preggo so I may just be a tad snippier than usual Blush.

Loads AF...how many times would you like?

Always happy to oblige.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 19/11/2012 21:17

I read them Olivia do I get a stickrr?

Portofino · 19/11/2012 21:36

Well I find it worrying that people professing to be educated are happy with the word and see no harm. Strangely I find it more reassuring to know that only the ignorant are happy to put up with shit like that.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 21:39

Well, awfully sorry to have worried you Porto. We can't all be perfect can we.

Portofino · 19/11/2012 21:44

Indeed not. Maybe I should mention that I do read contracts and terms and conditions everyday and therefore am much more aware that written word is not so innocent as it might appear. You just never know when something will pop up to bite you on the arse.

dexter73 · 19/11/2012 21:45

I have heard the word 'rape' used to mean 'great' as in 'that band was really rape'. I actually thought I was mishearing them at first but unfortunately I wasn't.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 21:46

I'm sure I will learn from the error of my ways, one needs practice at being perfect,I haven't had so much yet.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 21:47

dexter really?!

I may have pointed out that frape was being legitimately used in a correct,if unpopular way, but...rape meaning good? .

Portofino · 19/11/2012 21:48

I wouldn't worry about perfection. Good social skills is the way to go. It doesn't matter if you know it all if you come across as a knob.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 21:48

That must be a problem you know quite a lot about.

Portofino · 19/11/2012 21:50

Excusez moi?

Alis...but language evolves, yes ? So you must be ok with the use of the word "rape" evolving to mean "good"

yes ?

it's all simply the modern way, isn't it ?

yeah

FromEsme · 19/11/2012 21:53

I am a student teacher.

One of my fellow teachers constantly says she "got raped".

I got totally raped by my kids today. My teacher totally raped me in my lesson observation. My tutor is going to rape me when he sees how shit my essay is.

I cringe every single time.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 21:54

?

AnyFucker · 19/11/2012 21:54

I would have to say something, esme

Portofino · 19/11/2012 21:54

No intelligent women should use words like that, apart from in the correct context. I despair of modern youth.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/11/2012 21:57

Ah,very good AF....

I think there is a slight difference between using a word in a correct,if not universally popular way and just plain misusing it.

But obviously,you are right. Always.

FromEsme · 19/11/2012 21:58

I do, AF, I do.

She continues anyway, but we're talking about a woman who also thinks women in hijab are hilarious and that "paki" is an appropriate word to use so what the fuck can you do?

You know a lot about me for a new poster, Alis Smile

AnyFucker · 19/11/2012 22:04

esme, I would be reporting her to her superiors for those kind of attitudes

I wouldn't want a person like that teaching my children.

FromEsme · 19/11/2012 22:04

AF has been reported, just waiting to see if anyone actually does anything now.

Yup, LITR Grin

esme, I hope someone does do something about it. Attitudes like that have no place in a civilised society, never mind around our vulnerable children
