To wish people wouldn't hold my baby's hands

especially at this bug ridden time of year.
I keep telling myself not to be uptight and just go with the flow. You can't stop people cooing over cute babies.
But yesterday lady in department store came over to talk to him, holding both hands for ages. Then he grabbed her pen which she thought was cute/funny. I didn't say anything - what can you say anyway?!
Today he has vomiting, temperature, runny nose. I know it might not have been from this lady, but also It might have been!
Also had uncomfortable incident when an old lady who looked almost homeless did something similar in marks and spencers a few months ago.
Do these things annoy anyone else?!

maybe better if you dont take the baby out at all...

Yo are right. Keep him in a protective bubble. No one but you should enjoy or appreciate how cute your child is.

Yes but they can talk to him! They don't have to hold his hands!

Maybe put a paper bag over his head so people won't know he is cute when you are out. That should solve the 'problem'

Do people really not like this? I can't help myself,always seem to end up holding their little hand.

I would wash his hands after with a wetwipe.

Seriously, YABU but if it really bothers you so much why not carry some anti-bac wipes with you and wipe his hands next time a kind old lady touches him.

I know there really isnt anything I can do about it. And there little hands are so cute. But surely I'm not the only one who thinks "hopefully you haven't just sneezed into your hand before you did that!"
I'm talking complete strangers, not friends!

You do realise that your child needs to build up a healthy immunity, and exposure to everyday germs and people who are possibly homeless is quite normal..

and there is just as much chance that your friends have not washed their hands as a stranger too!

Bugs are passed by sneezing/coughing/breathing more than touch. YABU, unless you're going to have him strapped inside some sort of land-going aqualung.

I'm with the OP on this, why would anyone need to touch a baby that isn't theirs? I always talk to other peoples babies, play peepo etc but I'd never dream of touching them. I really don't understand why anyone would. YANBU (although you might find that we are in the minority)

It has just occured to me that this sort of hysterical reaction to strangers going near a baby is the reason that people seem to drape old towels and covers over their buggies nowadays rather than a sunshade... hide the child away from the germ ridden public and homeless people lol!!

Your friends are quite as likely to have filthy germ ridden minging plague infested shit clinging hands as strangers you know! You really really need to get a grip - and your child DOES need to be exposed to germ or he'll be sickly for the rest of his life.

Helpful hint - the vast majority of people do not walk around with snot, shit and vomit on their hands.

anice in fairness you're not being that precious. I used to work on checkouts and used to hate having to touch people to take change from them. Some didn't even look clean. The thought of touching someone else's sweaty change makes me heave even now.

As it's coming up to winter your problem may be solved for a while...put mittens on your baby! :)

I wouldn't use that hand sanitizer on though,might be a bit much chemical wise for a little baby.

This is YOUR PROBLEM, OP. I'd try to seek help for it before you influence your little one into thinking that this level of hysteria is in any way normal.

But seriously, I think you might need to have a think about why you feel like this. I think you can see from the reaction on this thread that yours is quite an unusual reaction to have - it could indicate deeper seated problems which might not be that healthy...

squeaky I wondered what the pram covering thing was about! I saw it a lot when I was in Copenhagen a few years ago and now notice it being quite common in the UK too!

think how many germs are on cashpoints and money and escalators and buses. I wash my hands after touching those sort of things but I doubt everyone does.

I 'm getting a massive over reaction from some of you!
I seriously doubt this is a sign of a deep psychological problem.
