To put my baby outside for naps.

Is there any downside to this?

I read that it's very normal in Scandanavia and it seemed very healthy to me. She's 11 months and is wrapped up very well. Normally in a weather proof all in one then her foot muff etc. Warm hat.

She's outside for I suppose 1 hour twice a day. Sometimes on a walk or just out the back.

Now that the weather is getting cold is there any downside? Anything I haven't thought about?

presuming the pram is in a secure place natch if not on a walk

I don't think I would like to go outside if I wanted to have a snooze - I would much rather be in a warm house. I don't have a problem with it, I just don't see the point in it.

Only downside I can think of is that she may not nap inside when needed??

If we go out for a walk and DS falls asleep in his pram I leave him outside. Fresh air does em good!

She naps so much better outside. Don't know why! I'd rather nap inside too Dexter but the fresh air seems to knock her out.

It's just out the backyard that I normally put her.

used to be commonplace here, a couple of generations ago. babies were always put outside.

Nothing wrong with it at all.

I put both if mine outdoors if the weather wasn't shocking (so not today then, misty and raining. ) and they slept so much better outside.

YANBU at all-my mum did I with me (almost all year round, to the point of having a hot water bottle in the pram!) and so I did it with my 2.

Lots of nurseries put babies to sleep in prams in outdoor covered areas. Usually the nurseries with no sleep rooms.
Cool is good. Damp fresh air is good.
Cover the pram though. I always think of a certain Gary Larsen cartoon when I see babies in prams. 2 birds perched on the handle of a pram looking at a crying baby. One bird says to the other "I can't believe it's still hungry. I've been putting worms into it all day!"

If she sleeps better then leave her outside.

When my children were babies [they're 17 , 15 and 13 now] you were encouraged to let them sleep outside as long as it wasn't damp, raining or bitterly bitterly cold and they were protected from cats, wasps etc.

My nana always did it. We used to do it sometimes with dd1 and it worked well.

I always think about how nice it is to sleep in a tent!

I'm in Sweden. Tis true, babies nap outside here even when there's 6ft of snow and -15C.

It's lashing rain now and the pram has the raincover on. I think the sound hypnotises her

Mine's outside right now. I live in Denmark and was strongly (but gently) encouraged by my HV to adopt the Danish way. DS gets fresh air every day. He sleeps better in the fresh air. Plus it means you can run the hoover round without worrying about waking him up. Make sure that the ears are covered though as being outside for that long can leave them more prone to ear infections.

I can quite imagine wrapping up warm and sleeping in a big comfy buggy.

Do it. She'd soon tell you if something was wrong.

My daughter loves it - she will only ever nap for 45 minutes inside, always been the case, but if she falls asleep in her pushchair when I get home I park her in the back garden with a blanket over her. Lovely fresh air, I can see her through my French doors, she's warm and safe - brilliant. And she'll sleep for ages that way (an hour and fifteen so far and she's still snoring away)

My mum/aunties, etc all used to do it - it was the norm back then. Don't know why it changed

If she's inside we've to rock etc whereas outside she becomes very calm and might lie awake for 15 mins and then dozes off.

It definitely works for her and I'm v happy there's no downside I haven't thought of.
