The experts tend to measure back size then just try various different cups to see which looks best as different makes vary quite a bit.

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 20:34

Ahh, what Boux Avenue that sells larger sizes?

"I thought you said the online calculator said 34A? That's what I meant."

They did. I only looked at them because of this thread. I have seen one that says I might be a 32C, so next time I am looking for a bra I will look at them.

"Can you just humour me though and tell me how many fingers you can get under the band of the 34A?"

I am in my jim-jams right now, but normally I wouldn't be able get more than one or two. My 34As are pretty tight.

Under bust I measure 30" and on the bust I measure 33". I have looked at loads of bra measuring sites and they all come up with different answers, although the most common one is 34A.

I am still not convinced that I am C or D cup - I am more of a Kate Moss than a Katie Price Sad

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 20:51

I think they go up to a G possibly? So, not that big but better than some places.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/10/2012 20:52

Bun on those measurements I'd say 30C actually. A C cup on a 30 back genuinely isn't massive. My soon to be sis in law is that size I think - I noticed a massive difference in how she looked lately, couldn't put my finger on it then heard her telling a friend about the amazing bra fitting she'd had!

KormaChameleon, I's start at a 42F, but depending on how that feels you may want to try a 40FF/G as well.

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 20:52

Kormachameleon I'd start with a 42F or possibly even a 40FF and take it from there. Don't forget to scoop and be brave going up through those cup sizes!

JollyJack · 09/10/2012 20:54

Did you look at the link Sorrel posted at 19:09? It talks about exactly what you're saying, bunbaker

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 20:55

Bunbaker Honestly, give it a go. My 13 yr old niece measures 28 under and 34 over and was wearing a 34A on her little bumps, bless her. She is now wearing a 28DD/30D depending on style. She is very pleased with herself Grin

HazleNutt · 09/10/2012 20:57

Bun, what statistically said. Try a 30C. Not only will it fit better, you will go from A to C in 5 minutes, no surgery required Grin

HazleNutt · 09/10/2012 20:58

Oh and Katie Price is nowhere near a D.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/10/2012 21:00

P.S the press, as a whole, talk utter utter BS about bra sizes. Katie Price is in all probability something like a 28J - she has a tiny back. I just saw something suggesting Naomi Campbell is a 34B - a 34, a ha ha ha ha.....

MadameCupcake · 09/10/2012 21:01

Apparently Katie Price is 32FF. I don't think she actually is as my boobs at a 32GG are definitely not bigger than hers. She is also tiny under her bust.

MadameCupcake · 09/10/2012 21:03

x-posts - exactly Statistically! Since having my op I have had my eyes opened to bra sizes. I think there should be bra parties (a bit like Body Shop parties) where you have a few glasses of bubbly and have your boobs measured! Do they exist??

Have you ever seen pics of how badly her bras fit?

I remember years ago when she released her range that was made by Panache, and there were stories saying they fitted her then and found she was a 30G. I suspect that was still stretching the truth, since the range started at a 30 and only went up to a G and they couldn't exactly have her fronting a range she didn't fit

CelticPromise · 09/10/2012 21:11

Korma I'd stick with the 40 and try a bigger cup size if you think the band is right. You should be able to get two fingers under the band. If it's looser than that maybe try a 38? But go up thecup and be sure to scoop!

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/10/2012 21:12

When you say you have breast escaping everywhere - can you describe where from? If you have excess it almost certainly means you need to go up in the cup, but the back may need switched too. If you can do up a 40 and just get a couple of fingers inside the band then DO NOT go up in the band.

If you put the bra on, lean right forward and forceably scoop everything in from your back/underarms, then have a look, how is it? Check the back - how loose is it? What about the cups - do you have a noticeable 4 boob, or just a little bulge when you breathe in?

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/10/2012 21:13

P.s. Korma, the cup size is much harder to get from a measurement, hence the questions.

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 21:21

Ahhh, the media and celebrities bra sizes. Drives me bonkers. Apparently Christina Hendricks is a 36DD. Yeah, ok Hmm. More like a 32HH!

Lavenderhoney · 09/10/2012 21:24

Bra buying is a dismal business. I am am 32 ff and it's very difficult. I go to debenhams who do a great range for me. I buy a 34 f depending on bra design. Rigby and pellar in London are great if you can get there and agent provocoteur do some big sizes but not for every day:) I just bought mothercare biggest when preg and bf. I have a small ribcage and am petite also I don't want a beige boulder holder, thanks v much! Sport bras, playtex are good, just jump up and down in the changing room. Your boobs shouldnt move!

OK, it sounds like the cup is quite significantly too small in that case - if the bra is that far off you won't get an accurate measurement as it will be distorted by the, ahem, escapage!

It sounds like you have the right idea with the back - loosest clip, just one or two fingers underneath. So, it sounds like you need to start working your way up through the cups to find the right one. Personally from what you say I would be ordering an H and an HH as a starting point as it sounds like you are at least two cups too small. 1 cup isn't massively noticeable (on me at least) - it's just a slight bulge when breathing in.

You might also need to experiment a bit with bra shapes to get the right one. I know exactly what you mean shape wise - a friend had a reduction and uplift and they looked very round.

this page might be useful for helping to identify a good shape for you. Do you have anywhere nearby that has a good range in bigger sizes, or are you looking at online ordering?

HollyHopDrive · 09/10/2012 22:12

I do like a good bra thread, could sorrel or any other boob ladies help please?

I am now only bfing at night but I don't feel like there is much milk left and my nursing bras are definitely baggier, so much so I put on my old underwires which are fine but a little bit of overspill but they do feel loose.

My nursing bra was a 30H (also had a 32H in a different style but this was much looser) so I am wearing an old 32FF Deco bra - I seem to remember these come up a little big in the cup though. It does ride up a little at the back too but comfortable enough but when I tried on my 30FF I couldn't do it up.

I measured 31 underbust and 40 overbust. So my questions are;

Will my boobs shrink much more and is it worth bra shopping yet or waiting till completely finished bfing?
Does the 30FF not fit because it is too small in the cup and would I be able to do up a 30G or GG?

What styles are good for erm, emptier boobs? The Deco bra is great for me but some other styles would be nice too, don't think a full cup is good for me as all my boob is underneath, I don't have much natural cleavage if that makes sense.

I wore a 36B before I had DS1, lost weight so went to a 34C, but having found the joys of Bravissimo for nursing bras I was probably a 30 or even a 28 given that I'm 3 stone heavier now! Though if I said to someone I was a 30G they would laugh cos they're not that big!
