DP has just announced his parents have booked a last minute caravan in a haven park. I know i'm being stuck up, but I'm really afraid it's going to be filthy! I don't know if i'm more upset about staying in a caravan or the fact I might see FIL in his pants on the way to the bathroom...

Well you can clean can't you? If it's dirty....

Why do you think so badly of Haven? Where do you usually go on holiday?

MsElisaDay · 28/09/2012 12:49

YABU. And a snob. Most people would be grateful if their in-laws surprised them with a holiday.

FlibberdeGibbet · 28/09/2012 12:51

Misread your post - thought you were off to Heaven! I was thinking maybe this was some mass suicide pact thread....

No experience of Haven caravan park, but I'm sure it will be clean! Can't comment on FILs underwear; just whistle loudly if you think you mught catch him in the alltogether

BoerWarKids · 28/09/2012 12:51

All my childhood holidays were at Haven!

Even now, I'd rather do Haven than CenterParcs.

Sorry OP, doesn't answer your question, just wanted to put that out there.

harvestvestibule · 28/09/2012 12:53

I have been to Haven before and it was pristine. But the other holiday makers might prove to be a bit of a culture shock!
Do you have tattoos, a chain smoking habit, a croydon face lift, hoop earrings, many many shaved headed little boys and girls called Maddison shelby and chantelle

Fairylea · 28/09/2012 12:54

Don't be so precious.

I've stayed at seashore resort and that was horrible but more because we were surrounded by groups of teenagers who spent all evening drinking and getting back at 4am....

I was hesitant to go on a haven trip again but we went to wild duck and stayed in a superior caravan and it was really clean and nice and quiet. And I'm a clean freak too.

Go with an open mind. You might enjoy it.

ClippedPhoenix · 28/09/2012 12:54

All these holiday parks are so different now from a few years ago, you'll be amazed OP. I remember the dire skummy dirty things from my childhood so know what you mean.

Tiredmumno1 · 28/09/2012 12:55

The caravans are always cleaned after the previous people have left.

Only once did we arrive, collect the keys and it hadn't been done, so we complained as it was in a right state, they just upgraded us to a caravan that had been cleaned, stop worrying and enjoy Smile

The only piece of advice I have is to take your own duvets and pillows, especially if its chilly

theodorakis · 28/09/2012 12:56

Call in sick

Littleprincessrocks · 28/09/2012 12:56

I have been on many a lovely holiday at haven.
FWIW I have no tattoos, don't smoke, croydon face lift or anything else on the list.

Which site are you going to out of interest?
Hafan y Mor is my all time favourite. Has the best swimming pool ever!

booomy · 28/09/2012 12:57

Haha Harvest that is what i'm expecting! I'm tempted to pack my cans of cider and a deckchair to sit out the front of the 'van? DP said last time he went, a kid called 'Beckham' pushed him. I don't think I'll leave DS unattended...

I went to a haven in the north of france when I was about three. Since then I've not holidayed in England, or in a caravan.

ShirtyKnot · 28/09/2012 12:58

I went to a Haven site once and the caravan smelled very strongly of dog.

When I opened up a cupboard a great big bag of dog food fell out.

AMumInScotland · 28/09/2012 13:01

I thought this was going to be like the threads on CentreParc and was going to advise you to pack plenty of lube Blush

booomy · 28/09/2012 13:02

shirtyknot that's great. Don't have to buy MIL any food Grin

Had many happy hols at Haven. Always very clean and well managed.
True about the clientelebut in these hard times I have spotted a few Boden types sneeking in.
Pools are great. Just avoid the evening entertainment if you can't sink a 4 pint jug of larger.
Bingos also fun and good for people watching. Families all blinged up ar 6pm to stake their claim on the brst table for the night then keep handing fash to their kids to play in the arcade all night while they get hammered.
I know. What a snob I am.....flame away nut I just dont know where get all the money.
None of my business I know but they must get through 100',s each night.

happyclapper · 28/09/2012 13:04

Fash? I meant cash...

Fairylea · 28/09/2012 13:04

If you stay in standard caravans at haven these are the vans where dogs are allowed. When we go with my mum we stay in one of these as she has 2 dogs. If we go alone we always stay in superior grade or higher as we know they are and always have been petfree.

PickledFanjoCat · 28/09/2012 13:05

Oh dear the snobs are out! I know absolutely loads of people that go to haven.

If I hear the word chav im going to lose the will to live.

littlepiggie · 28/09/2012 13:07

I have no tattoos or hoop in my ears! When we go camping we tend to stay on haven sites as a base for the kids entertainment.

RaisinDEtre · 28/09/2012 13:10

Haven fine

Pontins, not

MumsGoToReykjavik · 28/09/2012 13:10

I have had many nice holidays on Haven camps. Don't be such a blimmin' snob.

Which one are you going to?

Fairylea · 28/09/2012 13:10

So are people who wear hoop earrings and such like not allowed to have a holiday ? Should we create ghettos for those sorts so noone has to holiday with them ?

Sigh.

Viviennemary · 28/09/2012 13:10

I went once. It was years ago. It was totally and absolutely dire. But even people who had been on Haven before were saying it was awful. Never ever went again.

ShirtyKnot · 28/09/2012 13:12

I went to StalagPontins at Camber Sands for a fitness weekend.

It was very, VERY bad.

I had an alright time in Haven - I drank slush puppies with vodka in them.

PickledFanjoCat · 28/09/2012 13:14

Last one I went to was Weymouth. It was clean fresh and nice. We took ds to thf kids disco, yes it was annoying but it's what little kids like.

There were people having a few beers but they are on HOLIDAY!

Do people want them sit drinking water and poking forks in their legs?

There were people there from all walks of life as well.
