DP has just announced his parents have booked a last minute caravan in a haven park. I know i'm being stuck up, but I'm really afraid it's going to be filthy! I don't know if i'm more upset about staying in a caravan or the fact I might see FIL in his pants on the way to the bathroom...

Will you have a picture of your caravan tattooed on your arm as well Mrs DVere?

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 01/10/2012 10:58

Forgot to say...
East coast somewhere.
Has to be two ours from east London.
Has to be right next to a beach and with one of those long promenades so oh can ride his scooter [motorbility not micro, he's not some sort of hipster].
It has to be within walking distance of a small town.

It won't be on a haven site though, can't afford the humongous fees.

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 01/10/2012 10:58

ohlimp I thought on my neck would be nice...

I love cheaps as chips holidays where you don't have to worry too much about noise, or taste... I hate glamping, love slumping.

I do detest caravans yet, I never turn the chance to have an extra holiday in one. I love the shabby chic, the wonderful array of people to watch, and not having to worry about what the neighbours will think of me not using a glass to drink wine out of at 11am.

A DIRTY caravan though, one that shouldn't be (ie, if it's a friend's that hasn't been used for two years, that's okay) and I would complain, and would NOT clean it... YABU and YANBU.

Raucous fun, FIL in his underpants, chips, JK neighbours... embrace it, its good for the soul.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 01/10/2012 11:08

I like a caravan holiday, me. Brings back good childhood memories. Managed to get DH down to Woolacombe for a week a few years ago, but he was not impressed. Sigh.

OhlimpPricks · 01/10/2012 11:10

Well I hope he doesn't smoke when he is using his motability scooter. Surely you would need 3 caravans for your 30 kids?

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 01/10/2012 11:13

He can't smoke and huff on his crack pipe now can he Hmm

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 01/10/2012 11:13

Now stop drawing me in...I have house work to do. DON'T LET ME BACK!!!

OhlimpPricks · 01/10/2012 11:24

Housework? People who use caravans don't do housework. They just sit on their arses drinking cider watching Jeremy Kyle ( when they're not on it)

Only4theOlympics · 01/10/2012 11:58

Fwiw. I am working / middle class above average wage earner, as is my husband (neither of us above average by much so we are not loaded). 1 fairly well behaved child. No tatoos, hoop ratings or criminal records between any of us. I absolutely bloody love haven holidays and can't wait to go back. Especially devon cliffs or burnham on sea. Love it, love it, love it. (We also prefer off peak - last year we went at the end of October!)

Thought of this thread when I saw this headline!

going to devon cliffs again next year. Had a great time this year. Booked same caravan (private hire) - as cheaper then Haven prices.

FellatioNelson · 01/10/2012 17:17

They must be the ones who get a coupon for a pound from the Sun. Grin

Seriously, you meet all sorts from quite posh to er...not, camping, but most people have the same things in common other than just wanting a cheap holiday, ie. a love of camping! OK, there are some dodgy rough types who are to be avoided but most campers take their camping seriously and love to preserve the values of the site, keep it nice, and value the rules and regs, but still have a great time drinking outside the tent/caravan and are a very friendly bunch.

SassySpice · 01/10/2012 17:22

We've had three or four Haven holidays in the past when the DC were very young. Although our caravans were usually pretty clean I still refused to walk barefoot on the carpets!

We recently paid a day visit to our old favourite site and found that it's been revamped and is really quite impressive. I wouldn't stay at a Haven again though as I don't like being too near 'other people', I tend to like a lot of space when I'm on my hols.

PickledFanjoCat · 01/10/2012 17:47

Sun coupons here! And Daily Mail ones but in my defence I dont read it I just steal the codes from the interweb.

Shaky · 01/10/2012 21:55

Sun coupons here too! Saved us a fortune, we would have paid full price. Our caravan is lovely and clean in a fab spot with a view of snowdon!

I have only counted 4 football kits so far Grin

PickledFanjoCat · 01/10/2012 22:32

Hurrah! What's the site like? It's one I fancy trying..

Are the out of season ruffians there?

cumfy · 01/10/2012 22:47

Not looking for a contact lense then ?

Shaky · 01/10/2012 23:17

It's lovely, this is the third time we have been here and it is the quietest we have ever seen it.

The site is huge and there is loads to do, 2 big main entertainment complexes and loads of places to eat. The pool is huge! It's really well maintained and the staff have been lovely.

I can even MN from my phone on the caravan. I was worried how I would survive!

Seriously, everyone I have seen has been fairly normal (although I'm not a judgy type who spends more time watching everyone else).

However, I will carry on my spot the football kit game, next year I may play spot the football kit AND tattoo!

Last time we came we even thought about buying a caravan, saw sense and forgot about it. I want to buy one again now (we can't afford it).

2rebecca · 02/10/2012 08:14

We stayed in one but although the caravan was fine I agree the pool was too small and crowded for the site and it was a bit rough with slot machines as main entertainment.. I expected to take washing up stuff on a self catering holiday.
No matter how little money we had i wouldn't want someone else booking a holiday for me though. It sounds controlling and paternalistic.
Saying "we are going to x would you like to come" or we'd like to take you away what sort of holiday do you fancy? would appeal more.

YourCallIsImportant · 02/10/2012 08:33

Poor you OP, I sympathise.

We were 'gifted' a weekend at Craig Tara, the Haven park in Ayr a few years back. Now we are neither snobby, entitled or Boden wearing, but honest to god, it was hellish. Loads of totally pissed stag and hen parties, and running battles between the caravans during the night. It's not snobby to not want to spend another weekend like that.

Parkdean on the other hand is great.
