I was going to sell some baby equipment that my DD has grown out of. A friend said that she had a friend who is pregnant and has no money, and could make good use of the items, and could she please have them for her friend, for free.

As I don't technically need the money for the items, I agreed. She did kind of railroad me into it really. I gave her the items, she said that her friend was delighted with them when I asked if she'd given them to her.

Yesterday I saw on a FB group that she is selling the items, which total up in value to around £500. I know what her Ebay ID is and I checked that, and she has listed them on Ebay too.

I don't know what to do. I know she is struggling financially, but I loathe the dishonestly involved here, and the assumption by her that because we are comfortable financially that it's ok to do this to me. I'm pretty upset, she is a very good friend.

She's not really a pretty good friend if she's lied to you IMO. It's not on and I'd have to confront her of I were you!

I wouldn't even argue with her about it. She deceived you.

If the items weren't wanted/needed she should have returned them to you.

It doesn't matter if you're a billionaire! She's conned you. I'm tempted to call it theft...

Oh I would confront her, but I wouldn't argue, I would simply inform her of my feelings and probably flounce tell her to return any items she still has before you go the police.

Set up a username and bid astronomical sums for them - arrange to go round with the cash.

She may have been a pretty good friend but not anymore.

Whether she needs the cash or not, that is a big no no.

You should ask her why the things you gave her are on her eBay id.

However awkward, that is just not on.

I have been beyond broke before now, we nearly lost our home at one point and were living hand to mouth-but I would never have been as deceitful and sly to a friend like she has.

If she had asked me if she could sell them, say if her friend didn't want them, I'd have probably said ok and said she could have half the profits, if her finances are dire and she was struggling to buy food.

If this is a really old friend, who you have always had great trust in, I would wonder what had happened to make her con you out of desperation, and maybe, possibly, give her chance to explain herself.

If she's always been flaky then I agree with above posters, get it back!!

I think that this is wrong and your friendship is probably over as she has lied and deceived you for her own financial gain.

You wish to confront her? Go for it. You have nothing to lose and she may gain some insight that will help her and her other friend's in the future.

Do you have a female relative who could suddenly be pregnant and you need the items back to give to her? Or claim you might want another baby and so you decided to keep the stuff?

Or alternatively, just say 'I've seen exactly what you're doing, you have the biggest fucking nerve profiting out of my good nature and I want my stuff back.'

You could send a question on eBay and say that of course you would be expecting 50% of the sale price of her fraudulently aquired items.

shocking. Am for you.

I'd say I needed the items back for a family member. If she says she's given them away already, that would be when I'd say "oh, I didn't think the auctions were complete yet."

Whether or not you get the items back, obviously this friendship is done. I'm sorry. :(
