Is brilliant? You make me laugh all the time.

I think I have a bit of a girl zombie crush on you

TheGoldenKnid · 16/09/2012 11:17

YANBU! :)

slatternlymother · 16/09/2012 11:33

Did you just appear, zombie? Who were you in life? Wink

GoldShip · 16/09/2012 11:43

I don't 'get' her. I'd like to know her story.

GobblersKnob · 16/09/2012 11:47

I like the Zombie very much, she appears to be one rather fine undead woman.

WorraLiberty · 16/09/2012 11:48

I'm sure she's absolutely lovely but I cannot stand anyone talking about themselves in the 3rd person so I tend to skip over her posts Sad

Zombie was born on an ofrs thread and she is very lovely, as is her dh DZH

IamtheZombie · 16/09/2012 12:59

Oh, gosh. Blush Blush Blush

Zombie did not expect to ever see a thread like this. She hardly knows what to say. She does realise that, as Worra said, some people are annoyed by her posting style. She will therefore now step out of character to answer your questions.

Once upon a time I was a relatively boring MN poster. I used to enjoy the OFRS threads and one day I thought that having a "real" zombie join them might add a new dimension. Thus IamtheZombie was born. I chose to have her post in the third person for a couple of reasons. First, it would instantly set her apart from the real people. Second, I figured that a zombie would be a bit confused as to whether she was the person she used to be or was really a zombie. Third person speak was my way of trying to show this confusion.

For several months I used my normal nickname for most of my posts and only changed to Zombie to play on relevant threads.

Then, last November, life went tits up. Actually what I mean by that is that it went tit off. I was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer. I had a mastectomy in November. In December I learned that although the surgery had been a complete success in that they were as sure as they could be that they had removed all the active cancer (lymph nodes clear, no vascular invasion and a clear margin around the tumours), because the tumours were so aggressive (and were hormone positive and HER2+), I would need the full spectrum of adjuvant therapies.

At this point, Zombie started to become part of my coping mechanism. She provided a harmless distraction from what was going on in RL.

I had chemotherapy from mid-January to early May. I had radiotherapy from late May to mid-June. In July I started an 18 cycle course of Herceptin which I will finish next July. I am also on Arimidex for 5 years. Arimidex can potentiate osteoporosis so I also have to take other medications to try and counter that possibility.

By late January / early February I had abandoned by other nickname and was a full time Zombie. This year I have also lost my MIL in April and more recently my Godson whose funeral I attended last week. Zombie is my lifeline at times.

As to who I am in RL... I'm 60 years old. I'm married with 2 adult DSDs. I enjoy MN for the mixture of fun and frivolity; for the serious debates that can be had; and most of all for the care and compassion that can be found here.

RaisinDEtre · 16/09/2012 13:01

I had not realised that Zombie had been ill

Best wishes to you m'dear

slatternlymother · 16/09/2012 13:02

slatternly is lost for words Sad

GoldShip · 16/09/2012 13:02

Zombie. I applaud you.

I was a sceptic before, but seriously, you're brilliant. And I love the humour that came across when you spoke about your breast cancer.

It's brilliant getting an insight to people's lives, especially one such as your own.

slatternlymother · 16/09/2012 13:05

I never pictured you as middle aged zombie

Isn't it weird how we picture people in our minds?

OP posts:
Petsinmypudenda · 16/09/2012 13:05

Zombie is never 60 years old!

I always picture mumnetters differently in my head and its a shock to find out RL facts.

slatternlymother · 16/09/2012 13:06

Cross post pets!

TheOneWithTheHair · 16/09/2012 13:08

zombie you are an inspiration.

While you're on here, did you ever get the answers to that pop music quiz you posted? And did you enjoy your weekend away that weekend?

GobblersKnob · 16/09/2012 13:09

Zombie, I knew your backstory and find you extremely brave and rather inspiring.

I actually rather like your posting style, but because of it in my head, you are Dobby the House Elf, sorry Grin

Goldelephantslikedowntonabbey · 16/09/2012 13:12

Zombie is amazing.
I luff you.
So so sorry to hear about your illness and your losses.

Thumbwitch · 16/09/2012 13:14

Zombie, I didn't know your backstory but rather love your posts - and now I'm slightly crushy about you as well.
Very glad to hear that you have come through such a hellish time relatively intact (minus a few bits, but that's what you'd expect, being a Zombie Wink).

Slatternly - YANBU!

GOLDdebka · 16/09/2012 13:14

Zombie I had no idea.

You are my new favourite poster. Much much luck to you in life. My mum is on herceptin and arimidex (sp?) indefinitely- has been for 3 years now and is doing very very well.

Thanks

I really enjoy zombies posting style. Sorry to hear you have had such a shitty year

AllThatGlistens · 16/09/2012 13:25

I'm a lurker who is very slowly starting to venture out onto the boards! Zombies posts have always made me smile, so sorry to hear of your illness and I hope you're feeling much better now.

Your posting style is inspired, and I'm glad to hear it's helped distract you from the RL stuff!

Best wishes to you.

TheLightPassenger · 16/09/2012 13:25

wow, I had no idea of any of the backstory, respect Zombie!

IamtheZombie · 16/09/2012 13:28

You do know that it's not nice to make Zombies cry, don't you? Those salty tears make even more furrows down the cheeks.

Seriously, I am glad that some of you enjoy the Zombie persona. But let's not make more of it than it is. I'm just a woman plowing through life as best I can. There are good moments and bad moments. I don't feel at all brave. I just try to get on with it.

TheOneWithTheHair, yes, I think we finally got all the answers. Thanks for reminding me about it. The answer sheet is still sitting here and the closing date is next week. Must send it off and cross a couple of fingers (hoping they don't fall off).

GobblersKnob, sounding like Dobby is a compliment. Thanks

Grin
Moominsarescary · 16/09/2012 13:50

Talking of zombies, does anyone know when the walking dead starts again? I thought it was this month
