To think Kate Middleton should have kept her tits in

Surely she can't be unaware that she's one of the most photographed women in the world and there are paparazzi everywhere.
I know in an ideal lovely world she should be able to skinny dip in privacy, but in the real world I think she is being a bit naiive to go topless and then be so upset when the pictures are published

This thread is the sort of thing that makes AIBU so tabloid-tastic. There's plenty of others with more tasteful titles, why is everyone on this one?

sigh

noddyholder · 14/09/2012 16:55

I know all the 'outraged of clapham' are happy to gossip just as long as they don't look!

catgirl1976 · 14/09/2012 16:59

I wonder if she goes topless in the bath or shower? And if so, should she? I mean, she has no right to privacy by all accounts, so if she does she should be prepared for them to be photographed and published. Private is private. It doesn't matter if it was the bath or private villa. It was in private.

I get my boobs out on holiday all the time

And mine have featured in one or two tabloid presses in my youth.

But Kates should not have done.

OrangeFireandGoldashes · 14/09/2012 17:14

*"?They show a young woman sunbathing topless, like the millions of women you see on beaches.? "

Then why bother to take & print them?*

Exactly.

Don't encourage (by paying for pap snaps) a scuzzy, morally-bankrupt borderline-illegal act of invasion of privacy and then come over all disingenuous at the resulting furore. Twunt.

There are all-too-few things in which I can take pride in my life but I am proud that I have never bought a trashy sleb mag or a tabloid newspaper, and therefore don't feed this prurient unhealthy pathetic hunger for sleb gossip and photos gained by ever-more nefarious and underhand means.

This non-story - or at least it should be a non-story; "woman has breasts". Big deal - and some of the sanctimonious victim-blaming opinions expressed on this thread make me heave. "Well I never get my breasts out so any other woman who does deserves everything she gets." That's what it reads like. And there was me thinking it was the 21st Century, not the Victorian age.

noddyholder · 14/09/2012 17:25

If she had a top on would it have been ok? Women on holiday in europe often topless and so it could be seen as simply a photo of her on holiday or the topless element could seem 'outrageous' esp in the UK where we like a bit of "carry on" .

Whirliwig72 · 14/09/2012 17:25

My sentiments exactly - she was being naive. If she doesn't want to be papped in this way she shouldn't have sunbathed topless. I'm not justifying the press for taking the snaps just saying that as a major royal she should be aware that by going topless outside was a major risk and a bit dim. Sure being a Royal has restrictions on privacy but keeping your bra on outdoors or risking the consequences isn't a unduly restrictive surely?

noddyholder · 14/09/2012 17:27

She should have just brazened it really she is a young woman on holiday and is likely to be topless. All the mock outrage is a joke

OrangeFireandGoldashes · 14/09/2012 17:30

It's just been announced William and Kate are to sue for breach of privacy. I'm torn between thinking "good on them" while feeling disheartened at the extra publicity this will bring that low-life rag who paid for and published the pictures.

Flatbread · 14/09/2012 17:34

And there was me thinking it was the 21st Century, not the Victorian age

And yet we continue with an anachronistic monarchy as head of state Hmm

Maybe people would apply liberal standards to the royals if they represented modern institutions rather than 'divine rights' and all that tosh

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 14/09/2012 17:36

The French have far more stringent privacy laws than we do. How this got past the French Press Commission is beyond me and most of the journalists spoken to this morning.

Private house, private time, private holiday - and I'm surprised at the attitude of some of you all TBH, this is akin to sticking a lens through the bathroom window and publishing her on the lav. Although I suspect some of you would actually enjoy her embarrassment if that happened for no reason other than shes young, pretty, in love and married well.

I'd like to see your reactions if your daughters were published topless on FB by a BF - oh yes, we've had that thread haven't we.

Comment after comment along the lines of 'if she didn;t want to be photographed, she shouldn't get her tits out' - I would imagine she is feeling - and you won't like it - pretty fragile and dare I say 'raped' at the moment.

"sisterhood" my arse. Some of you are a pack of baying wolves. Some of you have no sense of right and wrong or what is amoral.

And yes, I'll take the flaming for use of the word 'rape' because I'm using one of several definitions 3. Abusive or improper treatment; violation

prettybird · 14/09/2012 17:37

Excellent blog therealsgm.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/publishing-nude-photos-without-consent.html here, pointing out why publishing the phots was wrong and expressing disappointment at some of the shameful attitudes within Mumsnet, where too many some are blaming the victim for "allowing" Hmm herself to be photographed. :(

Flatbread · 14/09/2012 17:37

If we abolish the monarchy, then no one would care if Kate danced naked on a table. She would be free to do what she wants, and we would be free of the lot of them

MrsKeithRichards · 14/09/2012 17:40

Anyone else think Prince Phillip will be rapidly learning how to navigate his way round google as we speak?

noddyholder · 14/09/2012 17:45

The UK loves this stuff its the boobs wot has everyone up in arms

Whirliwig72 · 14/09/2012 17:47

No she was outside in full view of a road apparently- It's not like being on the lav at all! She is completely free to go topless if she wants but I still insist she is being naive if she expected to be able to do this without some shit of a photographer taking pictures!

TheBigJessie · 14/09/2012 17:52

I assure you that if the monarchy was abolished tomorrow, people would still be interested in what the former royals did the next day.

The only true difference would be in the level of security protection the former royals had.

Perriwinkle · 14/09/2012 17:54

To be fair is anyone that vain that they want to get an all over tan without any bit being missed? Surely she can manage with just the skimpiest of bikinis?

Kate Middleton must have realised that when she became involved with the Royal Family that she would have to forgo a lot of personal freedom and kiss goodbye to what she might recognise as a "normal" way of life in return for the many privileges that come with the role she was taking on. If she's this naive to the ways of the world after being prepared for the role, and William too after all his years of training and grooming, then I don't hold out much hope for them.

I can't say I care about this at all to be honest. I hesitate to say she asked for it but it could certainly be argued that she invited it.

EverybodysDoeEyed · 14/09/2012 17:56

Flatbread

Unfortunately you'll find that members of unofficial royal families and aristocracies are still of interest to people

For example that German princess Xenia. And the lot pippa was driving round Paris with

And as for embarrassing things royals do - I don't think any of them can beat the king of sweden (or was it Norway) getting caught at an orgy!

noddyholder · 14/09/2012 17:58

All this is assuming that a young woman topless on holiday is somehow titillating. Or is it just her?

TandB · 14/09/2012 18:03

I'm horrified at some of the comments on this thread.

She was on private property and some grubby little voyeur took pictures of her without her knowledge or consent and plastered them over the media.

And she has no right to be upset and furious?

NoWayNoHow · 14/09/2012 18:10

She wasn't in full view of a road. She was on a private estate. That's just made up shit by the French press to excuse what they've done (which is massively illegal in France).

All the people on here bleating about the monarchy, and "maybe if she didn't marry into such an outdated concept" blah blah blah are SPECTACULARLY missing the point.

A photo was taken and published of a topless woman in the massively secluded privacy of her own holiday home. It's no different from poking a camera through your window and taking pics of you while you get dressed and posting them online.

People defending this publication should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

GoldShip · 14/09/2012 18:11

The royals bring millions of pounds to our country, I'm thankful for that.

Kate should be able to do as she wishes on private property. It isn't naive to think that in grounds such as those, you are safe from prying eyes. The photos are very poor quality (so ive heard) which suggests the pap was far away anyway.

I bet he/she thought all his/her Christmases had come at once when they got that photo.

Disgusting breech if someone's privacy. I know celebrities and famous people should expect to be photographed. But there is no excuse for a naked photo of her to have been published. That's wrong.

NoWayNoHow · 14/09/2012 18:15

Perriwinkle what a vile post.

"I hesitate to say she asked for it but it could certainly be argued that she invited it." Shock Shock

Invited it??? It was PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Utterly deluded.

theinets · 14/09/2012 18:23

I've seen the pictures. They are incredibly intimate and show her boobs from practically every angle clear and close up. I would say it is an intrusion of her privacy. Next they'll be taking pics of her on the toilet from the viewpoint of the u bend.

diaimchlo · 14/09/2012 18:27

I have read all of this thread from beginning to end and am absolutely disgusted at the attitudes of some of the posters.

Whether you like the Monarchy or not is irrelevant tbh so the posts regarding that issue are not relevant.

For those of you who have posted that she should expect this kind of intrusion.. how the hell would you like it if someone pointed a lens at you in an inappropriate situation and posted it on the internet for all to see, not one of you can say that you haven't been in any compromising positions so stop sitting in judgement of her doing what a lot of young women do on a beach....
