to admit to liking porn

OneMoreChap · 12/09/2012 15:56

I did recently, in a pub I frequent, and was met with derision by most of the female patrons.

There were a number of red(dish) faces, when I said I like my porn written, as the pictures were better, and no-one was exploited.

There were more red faces when I asked if any of them had heard of 50 shades of Grey?

[Incidentally, I worry about kids brought up on modern visual porn from the limited exposure I have had to it [the odd stag do and the like]; the women don't look like women; I've never heard any women say the things they do; and all the men are - I presume - unfeasibly large and endowed with superhuman endurance, and an antipathy to condoms and limited ideas of how to experience orgasm]

Well, YABU for reading shite like 50 Shades.

YANBU for liking porn.

Just find some good porn to read.

FurCoatSkimpyKnickers · 12/09/2012 16:00

You probably shocked them, I bet they do it in the dark. Just pull up their nighties for a minute or two and let him get on with it. Grin

WorraLiberty · 12/09/2012 16:00

Who sits around watching porn movies on a stag do?

AnyFucker · 12/09/2012 16:04

What is this post about?

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 12/09/2012 16:05

YANBU - I'm sure most of the female patrons in your local like it aswell but just don't want to admit it!

I agree with Tee2072 though - find some decent porn to read.....pah! 50 shades of shite!

DuelingFanjo · 12/09/2012 16:06

50 shades of grey is shite. No wonder people were red faced, I'd be ashamed to admit reading it too.

FurCoatSkimpyKnickers · 12/09/2012 16:07

I actually enjoyed 50 shades. So there! Grin

solidgoldbrass · 12/09/2012 16:11

Though the terminology irritates me, too, most people consider text-only sexually-stimulating material to be erotica and not porn; they consider porn to be a visual form of entertainment.

However, shit though 50 shades is, it's done wonders for those of us who write the good stuff (is happily anticipating meeting with publisher in a fortnight's time Grin)

What is this post about?

Mostly? Definitions of porn, and views on its use.

Lots of people seem to think it's all about the exploitation, when it can be much more about the titillation.

I also think that "modern porn" gives completely unrealistic images of women (and to some extent men) - to both men and women and I thought about it in the middle of my rant about fashion magazines on FWR

FWIW, no, I haven't read 50 shades of Grey - hearing it was based on twilight fanfic was enough for me.

Who sits around watching porn movies on a stag do?
Older chaps who don't want to go abroad/lap dancing/ and have drunk for so long that they've been pitched from 2 pubs and a nightclub?

Older chaps who don't want to go abroad/lap dancing/ and have drunk for so long that they've been pitched from 2 pubs and a nightclub?

That is sad.

mumof4sons · 12/09/2012 16:15

furcoat I actually liked 50 Shades too. Grin While reading it I knew it wasn't going to change the world, but hell, it whiled away the hours of a cold wet child free weekend.

I also like reading erotic novels and sometime watching porn. Gotta get my kicks somehow. lol

WorraLiberty · 12/09/2012 16:18

Oh I see, sorry I didn't realise you were an older chap Blush

WelshMaenad · 12/09/2012 16:20

Literotica.com has lots of free pornographic writing. Good, bad, indifferent, it's all there.

OneMoreChap · 12/09/2012 16:23

FurCoatSkimpyKnickers

which bit is sad?
Staying up drinking when the youngsters have gone off to somewhere I thought was unsuitable, or going back to a mate's drinking whisky who thought showing porn on the 50" screen was appropriate?

FWIW, I think stag dos are a pit sad, which is another reason why I didn't have one 2nd time around...

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 12/09/2012 16:25

Can there be anything sadder than men watching porn together?

EverlongYouAreGoldAndOrange · 12/09/2012 16:31

Agree anyfucker I don't get that at all.

modifiedmum · 12/09/2012 16:34

I do also find the men watching porn together weird...!!! Glad it's not just me that thought that! I wouldn't call up my girl friends and be like heyyy fancy watching porn on me hen do?! And yes a few of my mates watch porn but together is odd haha.

Also nothing wrong with porn, I watch it to get ideas on things/positions to try, however i don't watch it to get aroused etc mainly cos the acting and noises make me cringe!! If i ever do watch it for ideas the volume is right down!

OneMoreChap · 12/09/2012 16:35

Why do you think I prefer written? And yes, I'd have happily contented myself with his rather nice selection of malts...

OP posts:
CakeBump · 12/09/2012 16:37

oh dear OP. Actually I think YANBU but you will now get ripped to shreds....

LRDtheFeministDragon · 12/09/2012 16:37

YABU.

No offense, but if you started banging on about your porn habits in front of a group of women in a pub near me, first I'd snigger and then I'd feel a bit sick.

Why do you think written porn is ok, btw? You mention Shades of Grey so you must be aware there's a huge amount of concern about that issue with written porn - or do you mean, you think they were blushing because they realized they were reading misogynistic drivel too?

Proudnscary · 12/09/2012 16:40

Don't get this post at all.

What is it today? What with this and the Boris Johnson one...not even mentioning all the celebrity threads.

AnyFucker · 12/09/2012 16:41

omc, did you consider retiring to the kitchen/other sitting room to nurse your malt?

I bet you would still have had company, and decent (if boozy) chat

SirGOLDBoobs · 12/09/2012 16:44

It depends how you did it.

Was it a conversation that was joking around, talking about porn, and then you said something about actually enjoying it?

Or was it more a bit of ?

Think it also depends who it was with. I discuss what erotic fiction I've read with friends I know are into the same thing (and now apparently MN too... Grin) but wouldn't talk about it to other friends as I know it would make them uncomfortable.

You get a brownie point for reading as opposed to watching.

You are, however, being VVVVVU to have read 50 Shades of Shite.

AnyFucker · 12/09/2012 16:44

I think they were blushing because they felt embarrassed for a bloke who felt it appropriate to talk about what gets him off in polite company

[Hastily looks round to check if have strayed into FWR]

No offense, but if you started banging on about your porn habits in front of a group of women in a pub near me, first I'd snigger and then I'd feel a bit sick.

Barmaid talked about 50SoG
I asked did she think it was porn, she didn't.
Another female friend (of DW) said it was.
I said I read porn; we had the is porn isn't porn argument.
I turned round to other regulars and asked who used porn.
Other regulars were all tut until other friend asked about 50 shades, when there was "Oh, if that's porn[red faces]".

Incidentally, this is a pub where there are no strangers. Everyone knows each other well, if that matters.

Why do you think written porn is ok, btw?
Imagination. No real people.

I haven't read the article in question; I'm indebted to you for confirming why not. FWIW, most of them enjoyed it which was interesting in a sort of Hmm way.
