Am I one of the only people to think that the ubiquitous

ballet pumps and skinny jeans just look crap on loads people.

I'm not the most fashionable person so I may be being unreasonable but I just don't understand why so many people think the combo is so good. To me they seem unflattering if your legs are not straight up and down and you are not tall. I mean if a girl has any sort of calf muscle it's accentuated massively by the tightness of the jeans and the flatness of the shoe.
Why are they so popular?

Yes I think they make a lot of people's (especially models) feet look like HUGE DUCK BOAT FEET. I have small feet and am quite slim but I look rough in them. Can just about do straight jeans with heels and long ish top but certainly not skinnies n flats.

TuesdayNightClub · 11/09/2012 17:58

Nah I like it. Comfy, practical, easy to dress up or down, and I look shit hot in it Wink I'm short and not very skinny but I do think it flatters me.

Ample · 11/09/2012 17:58

If you have seriously bandy legs that wouldn't stop a pig in a doorway then I doubt skinny jeans are for you. But go ahead and wear them anyway, I like to be entertained Grin

MrsKeithRichards · 11/09/2012 17:59

I like channelling my not so inner Heather Trott in my leggings and tunic.

Omg!

What am I meant to wear?

I've not worn boot cut jeans since 1999 but do like the odd pair of wide leg come flare labor's

fartattack · 11/09/2012 18:00

I use to agree but since being pregnant they are heaven Grin

YABU!

I am genuinely offended by the insinuation that shorter women look less attractive.

Why do we feel the need to pussy foot around calling great big fat whales for the grotesque heifers they are, but it's fine to make disparaging remarks about people's height?

There's nothing wrong or ugly in anyway about not being tall.

iliketea · 11/09/2012 18:13

YABU. I wear skinny jeans, tunic / long top and I'm a size 18 Shock. I reckon if you stand tall, wear what you feel good in, you can't go that wrong. Though I did finish with converse today rather than ballet pumps.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 11/09/2012 18:15

You're obviously offended, however, no-one has said that shorter people are "less attractive" or "ugly". Good grief!!

Some things look better IMO on taller people with straight legs like skinny jeans and ballet pumps.
Some things look better on girls with smaller boobage like frilly or layered tops. I have large boobs and look awful in frilled tops that accentuate that part.
Some things look better on women with small waists like waisted dresses etc etc etc!

No fair, OP! I have been pregnant x 2 and too fat for skinny jeans/jeggings for the past five years and I just get my figure back and go and buy some skinny jeans, and now you post this! .

I've been stuck in maternity wear and leggings for the past what-seems-like-an-eternity. Don't make me wear something else now!

I'm wearing them with loafers or boots, regardless. It's my new uniform.

Disclaimer: I have checked every possible angle in the mirror, and asked DH for honest opinion, and think I look acceptable, even for someone not very tall. And I have skinny calf muscles. DH said they make me look "hot".

FrustratedSycamorePants · 11/09/2012 18:17

I'm tall. And I look bad in them. But I have huge feet. But then I don't like anything that assentuates my huuuuuge feet.

fartattack · 11/09/2012 18:18

Sorry PurpleAndPoppy

I am sure you are one of the people that can carry them off. Smile

didyousmashmyshirehorses don't be unkind it is a topknot, not a messy bun. Looks in mirror Shock I am in wedge sandals though, does that make it better?

PurpleAndPoppyWearer · 11/09/2012 18:19

Thank you OP.

EdgarAllanPond · 11/09/2012 18:19

i bought my first ballet flats in 2001 i think - pink rocket dogs with a nice criss-cross elastic lacing. i liked them because they were light, dainty, and made my small feet look tiny and feminine.

i have never worn skinny jeans.

this is a dated look definitely, but it was nice when it started.

fartattack · 11/09/2012 18:22

Edgar
You are definitely an early adopter rather than a laggard. Smile
What are you wearing now?

OP posts:
thepeoplesprincess · 11/09/2012 18:22

Right. So if you're saying that taller women look more attractive, then how exactly does that not equate to shorter women looking less attractive.....?

RobinSparkles · 11/09/2012 18:23

I have small feet. I wonder if that makes a difference, because I look fabulous? Wink

bulletwithbutterflywings · 11/09/2012 18:23

That's my look right there.... Confused long vest top, skinnies, flat pumps/sandals/converse, big sunglasses and a top knot. :( I'm a loser aren't I?

RobinSparkles · 11/09/2012 18:23

I'm short too so ner!

fartattack · 11/09/2012 18:23

Where have I used the word attractive? I haven't I have said they don't suit everyone, not the same thing.

Ilovedaintynuts · 11/09/2012 18:24

They look awful but you have reminded me how much I like the word ubiquitous Smile
