That this is unacceptable

I went into a well know phone shop at the weekend to purchase a mobile phone. The sales advisor was a young chap who was helpful when speaking to me. We were having a conversation about a network provider to which he then replied " yeah they are a bunch of c*s". It was a tumbleweed blowing past moment as I looked at him and then looked at my DC who was happily sitting beside me in the shop and had just clearly heard what had been said.

I quickly told the sales advisor to sush and not to say that word to which he just laughed!!. DC said mummy why did that man say that naughty word...
I have complained to the customer service but all they said was sorry. AIBU to think and want a better response than that. I,M disgusted by the word being used infront of DC.

That was pretty unprofessional and I'm sure he'll get into trouble.

But what else CAN they say to you?

They said sorry, what would you like them to do next?
The shop assistant shouldn't have said it but if you hadn't have mentioned it your dc probably wouldn't have noticed.

Its an awful word, but it sounds like he spoke without thinking. You have an apology

What else do you want them to do? If he is reprimanded, they wouldn't tell you anyway.

How does your son know it was a naughty word, he must have heard it before?

I imagine the sales person laughed through sheer embarrasment and nerves.

I'm not sure what else they could to to apologise other than saying sorry???

It was the Cunt word. Him speaking that word without thinking means that he should not be in a place of working with the public when he comes out with language like that. DC knows it,s a very bad word as it kicked off in a park last week with a parent calling a child that word. I explained that it was a naughty word and derogertry thing to ever say and not to ever repeat it.

My bugbear is that customer service nowadays is rather shoddy and infront of a child he should of know better.

Well agreed, he should have known better. But there still isn't much they can do for you except to apologise (and reprimand, I imagine)

I agree that the salesguy should not have said it, especially in front of your children. You were there to shop, and the last thing you want is professionals saying rude words.

However, you made a justified complaint and you recieved an apology. I think it was unnaceptable but that justice has been done, and you should move on.

He should have known better, it may have slipped out. You live and you learn, he will probably know better next time.

A slip up is one thing - to laugh when you asked him not to use that language is pretty dire. Personally after the complaint and apology I would just not shop there. You are right to be disgusted, it would bother me, but not much more you can do. :(

Loopy It is a word Hmm - you wouldn't use it to your granny or similar would you though! Would you, personally, use it in front of your kids?

OP is only saying you should be able to go to a shop without the staff making the air blue in front of your kids - is that idea so out-there to you that you think OP is caring too much?

No of course I wouldn't, I think you're missing my point. It's quite shocking that he used it, I would have been surprised and expected an apology too, but this pearl-clutching ridiculous baying for blood is simply silly.

YANBU to think its unacceptable for him to swear especially in front of DCs

YWNBU to complain after her didn't apologise himself

YABU to expect more than an apology after complaining.

It is unacceptable - but you complained, they apologised, I'm not sure what else there is to be done really Confused.

You could decide not to shop there in future (and tell them why). Still all they can really do is apologise again though.

I think it's appalling! I'm not a pearl clutcher, but why would anyone shop somewhere where language like that was used? There have to be some standards, ffs!

I'd write to head office and suggest they spend more time training their staff. It's completely unacceptable to speak like that to customers, particularly in front of children.
