To ask for suggestions for a wedding "care bag"

Ok - I blatantly am but I'm going to do it anyway!

I'm being a bridesmaid next weekend and am planning on putting a bag in the women's toilets with stuff for all the guests to help themselves to like plasters, hair grips, safety pins, a small sewing kit, lip balm etc.

Does anyone have any good suggestions? (noting that my parents will be at this wedding so my book of "ten top positions for your one night wedding stand" is probably not appropriate!)

I've seen this in the loos at a wedding and it didn't occur to me it was a thing the bride had done I just thought it was because the place was posh and charged a fortune for a gin!

Anyway it had most of that stuff plus hairspray, deoderant, body spray and paracetamol

Snog · 11/08/2012 15:19

I think this is thoughtful but I've never heard of it before and I'm not sure how it would work? Are you going to display all these things in the toilets?
If they are just in a bag will anyone know they are there?

Purplehonesty · 11/08/2012 15:20

Wet wipes. Always handy!

MrsKeithRichards · 11/08/2012 15:21

When I've seen one done the useful things have been in a basket at the wash basins in the loo.

TheWonderfulFanny · 11/08/2012 15:23

Condoms would probably be welcomed by some. Deodorant maybe. Clear nail varnish for nail or tights repair?

WelshMaenad · 11/08/2012 15:26

I had these! We did baskets, and in the gents too. Travel/sample size hairspray/putty/gel. Mini deodorants, also went round snd behged beauty counters for fragrance samples. Hand cream, nice hand wash. Plasters, hair grips, paracetsmol (out of children's reach), condoms, toothpicks/flossing sticks, mints. Some clear nail varnish for laddered tights. Mini packs of tissues and wet wipes.

omfgkillmenow · 11/08/2012 15:26

my local pub has a shelf with tampons and pads. Guess plasters especially ones for dancing feet! and safety pins, hair spray, kirbys, deodorant and baby wipes would be ok. Wouldn't put lip balm as thats a bit grotty unless you plan to put enough for everyone to have one!

MummytoKatie · 11/08/2012 15:29

Thanks all - these are great. Although there's going to be loads of kids there so perhaps a note saying that paracetemol can be got off me. I don't want to be responsible for mass liver failure!

MKR - yes a basket is probably better than a bag. With a little note from me telling everyone to help themselves.

It helps that I know the toilets well (old college bar) and there is only one lot with a suitable ledge by the wash basins.

Plus I'll tell my mum I'm doing it but to keep it a secret. Everyone will know in minutes!

A friend had baskets like this in the ladies.

Deodorant, tissues and plasters is what I remember.

Paracetamol sounds a good idea. Micropore tape (great for blisters), talc (both for plastic lined shoes and those of us whose legs rub at the topsBlush).

And can I repeat my eternal Wedding Plea!

Soft drinks as well as wine with the meal. One cheap bottle of lemonade per table so the DDs and my Dad can have something more interesting than water to toast the bride.

Pushing past everyone to get to the bar is an absolute pain (there always seems to be more tables than strictly fit).

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 11/08/2012 15:32

I put baskets in the toilets at our wedding. It was one of the things that guests commented on afterwards as they said it made them feel like their comfort had really been thought about. Even if people don't use the stuff, I think guests appreciate being thought about instead of just being accessories there to make up a big wedding.

We had everything already suggested, plus a couple of spare pairs of tights. Superdrug is great for mini travel sizes of things. I got a bit carried away and ordered personalised lip balms from an eBay seller, so there were plenty for people who wanted one.

trixie123 · 11/08/2012 15:38

brilliant idea, will be nicking it for my wedding! How about some hairbands so people who are hot from dancing can put their hair up? Mints? plus what everyone else said. I don't think lip balm is a bad idea if you get the pots that you put a finger on, rather than the lipstick type.

ViviPru · 11/08/2012 18:11

Christ on a bike I wish my bridesmaids would be so thoughtful!

Nyancat · 11/08/2012 18:19

I was at a wedding where the bride had done this type of thing in one basket and another basket with a job lot of flip flops from primark in different sizes - was great for dancing!

GnocchiNineDoors · 11/08/2012 18:23

New spare tights?
If any babies going, wipes and nappies in the relevant loos
Safety pins

Viviennemary · 11/08/2012 18:24

Condoms. Shock clutches pearls.

squeakytoy · 11/08/2012 18:26

indigestion tablets/mints, false nail glue, nail file,

hermioneweasley · 11/08/2012 18:33

Basket of flip flops is genius

GnocchiNineDoors · 11/08/2012 18:34

Arf imagine the kids running in saying "Muuuuummmm, this place is great, they put balloons in toilets!"

ImperialBlether · 11/08/2012 18:37

I think you'd have to be careful that the children didn't just swipe everything, party bag style.

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 11/08/2012 18:43

Cotton in white(if thats what the bride is wearing) and bridesmaids colour.

paulapantsdown · 11/08/2012 18:45

I did this at our wedding, and one of my cousins came out of the loo with most of the contents in her handbag, exclaiming how brilliant all the free stuff in the loos was! Someone put her right and she went and put it all back - she was mortified - I thought it was hilarious as I would have probably done the same!

panicnotanymore · 11/08/2012 18:48

Less is more I'd say - if you put too much stuff in the basket it'll be like a lucky dip and people will walk off with it. Posh restaurants usually have tampons, sanitary towels, deodorant, scent, tissues, and hand cream. The only things I'd add would be clear varnish for laddered tights and a book of those powder papers that you use to take the shine off your face.

I don't think paracetamol is a good idea. All you need is one kid to tell the others there are sweets in the loo and you have a serious problem.

ImperialBlether · 11/08/2012 18:55

She said she would leave a note about paracetemol, panic.

I think you really are at risk of people pinching them, OP, like Paula's cousin!

skateboarder · 11/08/2012 19:23

Few cheap lipsticks in varying colours. I often forget to take mine when i go out.

ImperialBlether · 11/08/2012 19:55

You think the OP should buy people lipstick? There's a definite need for some things to help you freshen up, but lipstick?
