To ask you to tell me your ridiculous supermarket home delivery substitutions?

Maybe it serves me right for using Asda... Grin

My grocery shopping came this morning and after a disaster with substitutions last time I checked the list thoroughly this time. (this is only the second time I've ordered from them).

I asked for a Medium sliced white loaf and I got a thick sliced wholemeal loaf. Hmm I had to keep it really as I had virtually no bread left.

Then when the driver had gone I realised that the 'dr. Oetker regal ice' (as written on the list) that was the substitution for 'asda ready to roll white icing' was in fact chocolate flavoured/coloured icing.

Fair enough, Asda refunded me right away and have said that they will speak to the person responsible in order to try and improve the service, but surely anyone with a tiny bit of sense would realise these two substitutions are nothing like the product ordered?!

A friend has now told me she got sent size 2 nappies instead of the size 4 she'd ordered. Confused

Has anyone else had anything even more ridiculous?

"And you were lucky with the bread - I once had 'no substitute available' for the (bog standard wholemeal) bread I ordered. Nope, no bread at all, in the whole of tescos."

Yes, I had that too! Ordered medium sliced wholemeal and got....nothing! I've had the size 2 nappies when I ordered size 4 too...what are you spposed to do with them, put two on?

blueskycp · 06/08/2012 21:57

My neighbour was sent a crateful of broccoli. Grin Think that wad Tesco

MissPants · 06/08/2012 21:58

Ordered finish dishwasher detergent and got a bottle of flash multipurpose Hmm

Best one was when we ordered a pack of 12 durex and got 12 Duracell instead Grin at least I was still happy!

midori1999 · 06/08/2012 22:00

I'm going to keep ordering online now to see what hilarious things I can be sent. Yes, my life really is that boring... Grin

some of these are hilarious...

I got no substitute available for my razors. They just didn't want to give me the more expensive Venus ones!

midori1999 · 06/08/2012 22:01

and I wonder if some people deliberately order whole crates of brocolli or a dozen punnets of nectarines or carrier bags full of ginger, so maybe t doesn't seem so odd to the person packing it? Grin

I have ordered 2 pints of skimmed milk before and told "no substitutions". Really no milk. Not even 1 pint. Not even semi skimmed. This week I had no cotton wool pads. No substitution available.

I give in.

OlivesTorchStreak · 06/08/2012 22:04

I have been sent more expensive products from Tesco on a few occasions. I ordered Tesco red & green pesto when I was having a cheapo moment and received the Sacla ones I really wanted. Thought I might try ordering everything in the cheap brands and see if I got all of the expensive stuff.

Bundlejoycosysweet · 06/08/2012 22:05

I have had lots of silly subs but the most strange was instead of the red pesto I ordered I was given Thai red curry paste....I mean really? You didn't think green pesto might have been a bit more similar?

Not subs but when I first used online shopping I thought I was ordering 2 courgettes but actually ordered 2kgs of courgettes, we ate a lot of courgettes that week.

CouthyMow · 06/08/2012 22:06

A hot pink nail file in place of hot cross buns. I mean, WTF goes through someone's mind to substitute a nail file for tasty buns?!

PrincessOfSnails · 06/08/2012 22:08

Instead of nappies I got NO NAPPIES AT ALL!! And we had a 4wk old and were in total chaos. Cheers for that Asda. We rang customer services who promised a call from the big boss which never came. We've never online shopped with them again.

sydneysuze · 06/08/2012 22:08

6 tins of kiwi shoe polish instead of the 6 kiwi fruit I'd wanted - wasn't sure how to use them on the skewers with strawberries and coconut like I'd planned ...

CouthyMow · 06/08/2012 22:13

Pud! Shock you MUST be joking, surely there can't be TWO pickers that bloody daft as to send a nail file instead of hot cross buns?!

I've told mine many a time on here, never come across anyone else with the same, frankly ODD, sub!

(You don't live in a SE town with a castle do you? Just wondering if it was the same picker?!)

GhostShip · 06/08/2012 22:16

It can happen mouthy cow, because the picks are computed generated not chosen by the picker. They're just following orders.

NumericalMum · 06/08/2012 22:20

I think I have wet myself after the durex\duracell one Blush

CouthyMow · 06/08/2012 22:22

Ghostship, but can't they override that order with, erm, a little common sense...

twinklyfingers · 06/08/2012 22:23

I used to work in a nursery and we ordered from Somerfield over the phone. We eventually gave up on this as they often didn't have all the things we needed or misheard our orders. They did try though, bless them, like when we got tinned peach slices instead of pizza slices. Fair enough, we could use them up. More difficult to serve to under fives was the tartare sauce we were sent instead of the cream of tartar we ordered to make playdough!

GhostShip · 06/08/2012 22:30

couthymow I'm not sure the computer generated list would show what the item was a substituted for unfortunately.

jubilee10 · 06/08/2012 22:48

10kg of bananas! I only wanted 10. They filled 2 carrier bags. Also had wrong sized nappies and no bread.

mumofsevenkids · 06/08/2012 23:08

This morning we received choc chip muffins instead of sausage rolls!

starfishmummy · 06/08/2012 23:13

We got mashed potatoes instead of meat. Maybe we had a vegetarian picker!!

Fuchzia · 06/08/2012 23:22

Fing plain wholeal flour instead of Bread flour, which is useless in our bread machine. Okay first world prob I know but this has happened three times in a row with Waitrose despite writing 'only substitute with bread flour' in the comments box. I now have six useless bags on plain flour.

the funniest one I heard about was Tampax being substituted with a twix.

Good call! If you have your period, you need chocolate more than sanitary wear!

MIBBY had you ordered fresh fish, asparagus and rock salt, cream and white wine, among other things? I got somebody elses delivery on top of my own. Tesco was not too bothered. They said I should just keep it. This was 7 odd years ago.

Tesco has on two occasions substituted my sanitary pads for incontinence pads. I can tell you, they are not the same! The packaging is even piss yellow, with trickles on! Angry

Pixieonthemoor · 07/08/2012 08:53

Wanted a pot of taramasalata. Got a smoked haddock ready meal for one! Confused

anice · 07/08/2012 08:54

fresh chilli peppers substituted for a baked potato with chilli con carne
