To not want anymore periods?

Imsosorryalan · 01/08/2012 20:20

I hate them. They do my head in. The monthly cramps, aches and back pains. Not to mention the crap mood swings before after and during. Also having to use horrid lavender scented pads because my tampon wearing days are over, thanks dcs.
How do I get rid of them?

Depo

ppppppppenguin · 01/08/2012 20:22

what fleur said

hermionestranger · 01/08/2012 20:23

Depo is the work of the devil. no periods but massive side effects.

olimpia · 01/08/2012 20:24

Why are your tampon days over?

Zippylovesgeorge · 01/08/2012 20:24

Novasure ;) Had this procedure at the beginning of the year and nothing since - blissful :) Doesn't stop the hormones but no actual bleeding - the hormones are much improved too :)

Mrsjay · 01/08/2012 20:24

I feel your pain I hate them too I am too old and dont want hormonal contraceptives so i am just having to wait them out the menopause is just around the corner thank god,

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 01/08/2012 20:25

YANBU. Horrible.

Hysterectomy? Endometrial ablation. The Pill. Coil. INjection. Implants.

I should take my own advice and sort one of these out. (Probably not hysterectomy, that's a bit drastic atm!)

Unlurked · 01/08/2012 20:26

Yadnbu. I can't wait for the menopause. I'm only 26 .

Off to google novasure now!

MrsKeithRichards · 01/08/2012 20:27

Mooncup.

I had my first period after birth, feeding etc. Couldn't find my cup so spent yesterday, last night and half of today in towels and tampons. Felt uncomfortable, leaky and gross. Bought new cup today (£22 in boots) and changed at lunchtime. It's a world of difference. No yucky feelings, no horrendus smelly things and so comfortable.

It even makes my periods shorter and less painful. I don't know how.

Imsosorryalan · 01/08/2012 20:27

Olimpia- unfortunately they don't stay in and I'm so heavy that they don't absorb all that muchBlush
Depo sounds v scary

Right there with you Imsorryalan. Although recently I went back to tampons after many years not using them and they seems to be working fine again.
I can't wait for menopause to get going, not looking forward to some of those side effects either, but not having a monthly period will be wonderful.

Bingdweller · 01/08/2012 20:28

Mirena coil! Plan to get sterilised soon but would still like the coil for the rest of my fertile days (changed every 5 years). It's bloody brilliant after the initial 6 months of it settling in!

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 01/08/2012 20:29

I'm glad I'm not the only who doesn't want to use hormonal contraceptives and can't wait for the menopause! I'm done having kids, why can't I turn it all off now?

Mrsjay · 01/08/2012 20:30

you would think always eh finished having children now where is the switch to turn them off or would that be a tap Grin

SimplySoo · 01/08/2012 20:30

Go on the combined pill. You don't have to have a period every month, just run the packs

olimpia · 01/08/2012 20:31

Oh sorry for asking Blush
By the way, have you tried different brands? The leading brand doesn't stay in for me either Blush

Margerykemp · 01/08/2012 20:31

Manual extraction of menses?

Mooncups are better than tampons/towels.

SimplySoo · 01/08/2012 20:31

*run the packs together, I meant to say.

ElectricSoftParade · 01/08/2012 20:31

I do understand what you mean and they are horrible.

Disclaimer: had a shitty day so am going to whine. Just wait until you start a premature menopause, go to GPs, get prescribed HRT. Take it and is fab for the first month then spend next two months bleeding heavily. Take more prescribed tablets to stop the bleeding while still taking the HRT to bleed. Get even more confused and bad-tempered.

Sorry for whine and hijack. Hope you are feeling better soon x

Imsosorryalan · 01/08/2012 20:31

It actually really pisses me off that no one has invented some way to get rid of them yet. Is it because most scientists are men Angry

mumto2andnomore · 01/08/2012 20:32

Another fan of the mirena coil here , not had a period for 6 years and no side effects

wishiwasonholiday · 01/08/2012 20:32

I can't use tampons either but my mooncup is fab you hardly notice it.

ElectricSoftParade · 01/08/2012 20:33

Depo made me demented before the menopause kicked in. Have just realised it may not be the drug but me waahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Littleprincessrocks · 01/08/2012 20:34

Do you ladies mean the depo injection?
If so, in my case it caused a lot of break through bleeding, so I was almost constantly wearing sanitary towels. I ended up needing to be on the mycrogynon pill to stop the break through bleeds.
In the end I gave up on the Depo and just took the pill (seemed daft being on both!)

I can't wait for menopause either - but I'm only 28...

Mrsjay · 01/08/2012 20:34

I was on Depo after dd1 didnt agree with me I honestly felt like I was loosing the plot Sad .
