To not want anymore periods?

Imsosorryalan · 01/08/2012 20:20

I hate them. They do my head in. The monthly cramps, aches and back pains. Not to mention the crap mood swings before after and during. Also having to use horrid lavender scented pads because my tampon wearing days are over, thanks dcs.
How do I get rid of them?

I love my Mirena. Periods? What are they?

olimpia · 01/08/2012 20:36

Are there any side effects of running the packs? It has never occurred to me to do it as a long term strategy to a periodless life!

Imsosorryalan · 01/08/2012 20:36

The merena cool sounds good. Does it stop periods altogether? Does a dr have to put his hand up your fanjo?

Olimpia - do you mean running the pills?
I think you need to have a break. Anyone else know?
I stopped taking the pill years ago as it mage me lose the plot.

TheCunningStunt · 01/08/2012 20:42

I also say mooncup. I had horrible heavy and cramy periods...switched to mooncup 3 years ago. Periods have gone from 7 days to 3 and only the mildest of cramps that go away anyway. I don't know how it does it, I think it's a mixture of letting my body do what it naturally does, mixed with not using chemical anything near my fanjo! It didn't happen overnight but every period was better than the one before.

TheCunningStunt · 01/08/2012 20:42

Crampy!

Furball · 01/08/2012 20:44

I am on my 3rd mirena and love it - no periods for 11 years - result!

it isn't like that for everyone though, but obviously you won't know til you try Smile

Nuckinfutter · 01/08/2012 20:46

I wouldn't wish the menopause on my worst enemy ,believe me I would give anything to have my periods back heavy or not.
Try to imagine being a 49 year old woman with constant raging endless PMT without the period, and no excuse for wanting to kill the bus driver cause he was 15 minutes late (sad)

Nuckinfutter · 01/08/2012 20:47

FFS even my links don't work and more.....FUCK!

olimpia · 01/08/2012 20:47

Yes sorry, I mean not having a break between packs. Someone here mentioned it? In the past I've used this technique to avoid periods during holidays, etc.
OP - mirena doesn't stop the periods for most women. To me it gave me irregular bleed and acne. There was a thread here not long ago about "bastard mirena". It was a laugh!

Sharpkat · 01/08/2012 20:55

Either run combined pill back to back for 3 months at a time an only had 4 periods a year - recommended to me by a gynaecologist - or try cerazette. I know the POP doesn't suit everyone but not a single period in sight since I started on it several years ago.

I know some people have bad side effects but it is my wonder tablet. No PMT. no nothing. Perfect Smile

SimplySoo · 01/08/2012 20:55

Re the pill. It's all anecdotal, but I heard that a fair few health professionals just have 3 periods or so a year by running packs together. when the pill was invented the idea of a month break was included to make it seem natural, not too freaky!

ElectricSoftParade · 01/08/2012 20:56

Nuckinfutter I understand. I do.

ChuffMuffin · 01/08/2012 20:57

I had the implant 2 years ago and I haven't had a period, or even spotting since then. Amazing.

I had Cerazette and I bled on it every single day. :(. Also agree that Depo is evil!

ElectricSoftParade · 01/08/2012 20:57

hand See, happens to us all Grin

olimpia · 01/08/2012 20:58

Right I'm sold on the idea of 4 periods a year.Grin

ElectricSoftParade · 01/08/2012 20:58

Oh am flogging a dead horse here, my brian is fried.

ComeonComeon · 01/08/2012 21:00

Sorry but WTF is 'manual extraction of menses' ?! Confused

honeytea · 01/08/2012 21:00

You could be a surrogate mum (sp?) I am worried that I am a much nicer calmer person now I am pregnant, I think I am going to have to have 15 kids or be a surrogate I don't think I can cope with going back to monthly cycles.

NotAnArtist · 01/08/2012 21:10

I run my pill packs together and have just a few periods a year. It's brilliant, would highly recommend.
discaimer My doctor/nurse bollocks me for doing this every time I go for my prescription. I also have no idea what it's doing to me long term with regards to fertility, etc.

BonnieBumble · 01/08/2012 21:17

Since having ds2 my period pain has completely gone (yay!). Even so, if I had the choice I would have a hysterectomy tomorrow. I know it is a major operation (I have had two csections) but it would be liberating to get rid of periods.

ElleJB · 01/08/2012 21:20

I looooove my Mirena! Really squeamish at the thought of it at first, but so glad I went ahead. No periods, occasional spotting every few months, that's about it. But yes, you do have to have it fitted up your hooha! No worse than a smear test (nurse did most of mine, with female GP coming in to do actual insertion), measuring depth of uterus is a little uncomfortable, "lifting the cervix" hurts like hell! But only for a couple of seconds, and if you took your GP's advice and took painkillers 30 mins before your appointment (which I didn't bother with, but will next time!) it wouldn't be so bad - allegedly... Good luck!

OlympicAccreditationWearer · 01/08/2012 21:21

I hear you, OP. At the moment I'm running my pill packs together. But it doesn't always work.

I am secretly hoping my gynae will recommend a hysterectomy after post-childbirth problems.

Have a baby and breastfeed it on demand FOREVER. That might be a bit rubbish in other ways though.
