To not want anymore periods?

Imsosorryalan · 01/08/2012 20:20

I hate them. They do my head in. The monthly cramps, aches and back pains. Not to mention the crap mood swings before after and during. Also having to use horrid lavender scented pads because my tampon wearing days are over, thanks dcs.
How do I get rid of them?

difficult for me to comment as my periods have just stopped suddenly 9 months ago, my hormones have apparently fallen off of a cliff and i have the most horrendous menopause symptoms impacting my life in a way my periods never did. the mood swings in meno are unbelievable worse than being pregnant, i ache all over all the time and my knees have just packed in for no reason other than menopause so now taking NSAIDs for this and looking forward (ha ha - not) to having to consider HRT. Sorry OP but i would swop with you any day of the week right now. dont think period stopping is so fantastic because it just isnt.

I'm on Cerazette (mini pill). No periods. I'm going to go for the implant soon - as I keep forgetting the pill. Daughter is on it too to control her periods, she was a bloody nightmare. It's a great house with no hormonal monthies.

NoComet · 02/08/2012 00:10

Femulen mini pill, doesn't get rid, but makes them very light and hassle free.

BadRoly · 02/08/2012 00:17

I'm had a mirena coil put in 3 years ago after dc4 was born. Was great after initial settling in (6mthss or so) but I have started having periods again - 4 week cycle but now they last much longer Sad but are much lighter than before.

I would love it all to finish - my Mum reckons she hit menopause at 50 and had all fizzled out by 51/52. So only another 11 years or so to go...

EmmaNemms · 02/08/2012 00:21

Another vote for Cerazette; no bleeding at all, suits me fine. Not aware if any mood swings etc but probably best ask my DH!

MyLittleMiracles · 02/08/2012 00:26

I had an implant put in two years ago come august 13th and since havent had a spot of bleeding Grin i was in agony before but it seems to have stopped them altogether, i of course this time next year will be getting another fitted!

PuffPants · 02/08/2012 00:50

Removal of ovaries, by keyhole surgery. 1-2 weeks recovery time. Puts your body into the menopause though, which is arguably worse than what you're going through now.

MyLittleMiracles · 02/08/2012 00:57

i couldnt do that being a single mum with no one to look after little man and bieng barely 24 they wouldnt want to when i dont need it done.

PuffPants · 02/08/2012 01:02

Oh, didn't realise you were so young! Probably better to hang into those ovaries then, you never know when you might need them again Wink

PuffPants · 02/08/2012 01:02

And Happy Birthday Smile

MyLittleMiracles · 02/08/2012 01:21

thank you! I always tell people i am 21, and get believed til they work out i was married for 6 years so cant possibly be 21 grrr

Shullbit · 02/08/2012 01:23

I had the Mirena put in yonks ago, only had bleeding very lightly for 2 days every 3 months. Had it took out after 4 years, had DS2, had it put back in and after the initial spotting for a week after insertion, 14 months after and I haven't had a single bleed yet. Get in!!

Always worth a second shot. You might have an even better reaction to it as I have had.

unless it was seriously bad the first time round obviously

Shullbit · 02/08/2012 01:26

Femulen made me bleed constantly for 3 months after DS2 (wasn't sure for a bit whether I wanted something permanent as hadn't decided if we was going to have another or not soon)

Was told every time I complained about the bleeding too that it was normal with the mini pill for at least 6 months :/

omfgkillmenow · 02/08/2012 01:30

I recommend the implant. I am on second implant, and yes you do have to persevere, first 3 months were hell but doc said persevere and Im glad she did. 3 months of hell then 33 months of bliss, no periods. had it changed, again 3 months of hell then bliss. One disclaimer though, if you work with loads of females you can take the odd day or two period because of the synchronism of girl hormones..but nothing like what it used to be. I used to be 8 days first 3 in bed dying. I even got my best friend to convert and she is forever grateful Grin

FirstVix · 02/08/2012 02:01

Oh that EBF on demand thing DOES nOT WORK!! EBF whenever she wanted, Co-sleep etc and 2 weeks after post-preg bleed finished, back to every bloody month regular as clockwork!

DEPO stopped mine dead (at 19/20) but there were a few (not massive) side effects.

sashh · 02/08/2012 04:23

Depo injection here - no periods, no PMT. But I know it isn't the same for everyone.

Lovelynewboots · 02/08/2012 09:18

Mirena coil for me, its great no periods and mine were getting very heavy.

DaisySteiner · 02/08/2012 09:22

Cerazette has worked well for me. Very light periods every 3 months or so for the first 18 months then no periods at all for the past year. The benefit of trying it over the mirena or depo is that if you don't like it or get nasty side effects, you can just stop taking it!

mumnotmachine · 02/08/2012 09:29

I was on Cerazette for about 3 years, and have switched to implant 3 weeks ago (had two depos just before the implant as it "prepares" your body apparantly)
I havent had a period in nearly 4 years, adn no PMT either- only downside is weight gain

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 02/08/2012 09:32

Dd was on Cerezette as she had shocking periods....she had a continual period for 4 months.
Cost me a fortune in Always.
Now off it.

GrassIsntGreener · 02/08/2012 09:32

Just scanning through this post as I'm looking at options post baby.

Wanted to say that I was on the mini-pill for about 6 years. Came off it to fall with dd1 and had no problems, I feared I would. I had often taken it back to back for 3 months max, not constantly though.

Krumbum · 02/08/2012 09:51

Don't trust depo injection to stop them! I still bled a lot when I had it + horrible mood swings.
Using a mooncup has made mine a lot easier, because it holds so much more than tampons and pads.

WerthersUnOriginal · 02/08/2012 10:57

Agree re Depo and side effects. I guess not everyone has problems but I did and they were made worse by GP's and nurses denying that the injection could possibly be the reason. So I thought it was me Sad

summerintherosegarden · 02/08/2012 11:04

Having not had a period for a year now and TTC...I'd swap with you OP
