I remember seeing a page 3 girl for the first time when I was about 6 as my neighbour bought the Sun. I cringed inwardly, and haven't stopped feeling the same since. I have 5 nieces 3 nephews and my own 2 sons.....I hope they could grow up without seeing images of women objectified like this. Clearly I am not showing this to them but at some point I know they will. Does anyone else feel the same?

Yes, I agree. I think it is quite hard to explain to a child, and when something is hard to explain and justify to a child, then it's often a sign the thing in question is indefensible.

It's Ok to objectify women now though, apparently, because we now do it to men (except we don't get to see their bits and bobs)

I think lots of people feel the same way, including me. I remember Clare Short campaigning against this for the same reasons you mentioned and she was roundly accused of just being jealous .

Tbh, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's not a newspaper (and I use the wods loosely!) that I or anyone I know reads. I think there are far worse thing out there, and while I think it's a bit pointless and outdated I don't think it's worth making a fuss about.
BTW, I don't think YABU to want to ban it, just think YABU if you think it will happen.

Apparently Dominic whatisname was defending page 3 at the Levenson enquiry says it was a celebration of the female form....so I emailed the Levenson Enquiry telling them how I felt about it. Apparently they take account of all the submissions sent to them in their ruling.

I hate P3, on the odd occasion I look at a copy of The Sun, I always place my hand over any boobs if I'm reading something else on the page. It's very depressing that young women want to earn a living like this in 2012.

Yes I know there are people hungry, homeless, abused, peole being murdered in Libya, much much worse things than this.
But also there is so much belittlement of women and so few decent intelligent role models for women in the UK, we are only celebrated if we have big boobs.

It's quite ironic really that we can't walk down the road topless when we're hot in the Summer...or sunbathe topless in the park but they can print photos of topless women every day in a national newspaper?

That's true! How many men say they feel awkward when they see a woman breastfeed, but page 3 is OK!!

YANBU. Its creepy that young women (most are about 18 I would think) are being oggled at by a load of men. I also can't bear the description of womens hair colour as some sort of defining factor. Even the broadsheets do it: Claire, brunette, said blah, blah. You never see ,Mike, balding, said blah, blah. What is that about? Sorry for hijack OP but both these things get on my goat Grrrr
