....to want to ban page 3???

I remember seeing a page 3 girl for the first time when I was about 6 as my neighbour bought the Sun. I cringed inwardly, and haven't stopped feeling the same since. I have 5 nieces 3 nephews and my own 2 sons.....I hope they could grow up without seeing images of women objectified like this. Clearly I am not showing this to them but at some point I know they will. Does anyone else feel the same?

Thank you Jamie...! Thanks Although I hasten to add it's not my petition! I'm cheerleading!

It's a useful tool. Anyone who buys the The Sun, think it's harmless etc - tells me what I need to know about them.

Yes, I would like to see the end of P3 and the Daily Mail's celebrity/ cellulite/ bikini bod obsession. And I don't want to see man objectified in the same way if that helps.

The quotes in that article defending page 3 are ludicrous! If you are happy with your body then it won't affect you. But if you are not happy with your body and it does affect you then what? Tough shit? If you are a young girl growing up in a house seeing her dad ogling page 3 everyday and thus sending out a message that this is the woman he, and other men, want you to grow to be, and if you don't have tits/a figure like that you've failed? Then what?

For the umpteenth time: I am VERY HAPPY with my body! My husband is VERY HAPPY with my body. Not that that is the be-and-end-all but it is nice when the man you've promised to sleep with to the exclusion of all others is clearly chuffed about that and regularly tells you so. I do not have body confidence/shame issues on any level. Neither do I look at page 3, but it still affects me. It affects all women. It affects me that after a fantastic summer of sport when the country was cheering on all GB athletes and for the first time the women were active participants (and sometimes gold-medal winners) IN EVERY SPORT, and not just pretty faces/bodies on the sidelines in short skirts with pom-poms, the Star still invites its readers online to rate female athletes on their level of attractiveness. Does it do this to male athletes? Meanwhile after Ennis wins gold the Sun reserves its largest picture of any woman in the paper for Emily, 23, with no top on. Way to go Emily, a much better role model for young girls then Ennis, hey. This is the context in which page 3 sits. Well done 'girls', haven't you tried hard? Now show us your tits.

I am so fed up of people trotting out the words 'harmless fun'. Seriously - if they want to have any credibility at all in their defence of this sexist bullshit they really need to step that argument up a gear. It's pathetic.

I've signed today and encouraged all my friends (male and female) to do the same. It's time this stopped.

Love boobs. Hate Page 3. Newspapers are for news. Put it up on the shelf or take out page 3. No one will lose jobs. People can still get thrills from mags magazines. Catch up UK. Here's my thoughts more deeply if anyone fancies!: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XomUSdsg6UY&feature=plcp.

www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/politics/4587270/Clegg-Ill-block-the-benefit-cuts.html

"NICK Clegg yesterday rejected calls for The Sun?s Page 3 to be scrapped.

His Lib Dem colleague Lynne Featherstone and Labour?s Harriet Harman have backed a campaign to get Page 3 girls banned.

But Mr Clegg said: ?You don?t want to have a moral policeman or policewoman in Whitehall telling people what they can and can?t see.?

He added that he would not stop his three sons from looking at Page 3 when they are older. "

I agree with Nick Clegg. If we start censoring things just because we don't like them or find them immoral then it becomes a slippery slope.
