of me buying a new pair of school shoes for ds1, (12) for the remaining 8 days of school?
just had to a call from the school saying ds1 is not in correct school uniform so will be keeping him in isolation for the day and will continue to do so until he has the correct uniform.
i sent him hin with a note saying he had to wear his ( black) trainers, as his school shoes got ripped yesterday, at school, and i was not buying new ones for the remaining 8 days of school.
how did they get ripped?
a bright spark teacher decided to do something fun with the kids on their last lesson with him, and got them running about in the gym, ( in a spanish lesson) and another child stepped on his shoe at the same time as he lifted his foot. baasically taking the sole off.
there is no way i am buying a new pair of shoes, that he will grow out of before going back in sept.
aibu or is the school?

School

Buttwart · 10/07/2012 09:37

you

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 10/07/2012 09:38

The school is BU. Obviously.

squeakytoy · 10/07/2012 09:39

get the shoe repaired perhaps?

Losingitall · 10/07/2012 09:39

YANBU!

They are bloody mad!

Treblesallround · 10/07/2012 09:39

YANBU! Keep him off if they won't let it go.

picnicbasketcase · 10/07/2012 09:39

School are being unreasonable. My DS's school shoes fell to bits the other day too and I'm not getting another pair of shoes until the holidays. He's gone in dark trainers too and the school can go and whistle up a flagpole if it's a problem.

Chundle · 10/07/2012 09:41

Can you not superglue it together for the last few days just to satisfy the school? Yes they are BU but your ds will be pretty miffed after 8 days in isolation

GrahamTribe · 10/07/2012 09:42

The school. It might even be arguable that they're discriminating against your son on the grounds of his mother's income.

I'd be keeping my son out of school until either next term or until the school accepted the situation and allowed him to be educated alongside his peers. No way should a kid be put in isolation for this.

Buttwart · 10/07/2012 09:43

What is the point in uniform?

yeahbaby · 10/07/2012 09:43

the sole came off, and the lining has ripped i cant glue them. and im not paying for resoling, it would cost more than new shoes.
he wont be staying in isolation for 8 days, if they say thats the only option he has then he wont be going in.
ive called and asked for the head of year to call me back.

Blimey the school ABVU there are children at my DS school wearing crocs for that same reason that shoes have fallen apart!

squeakytoy · 10/07/2012 09:46

I would get a very cheap pair of shoes for him.

roseyw · 10/07/2012 09:48

The school is BU expecting you to pay out for shoes that probably wont even fit after the summer. I cant believe they expect you to do this.

Buttwart · 10/07/2012 09:50

Hang on, did you send DS in with a note, or ring the school to explain before he went in?

lowfatiscrap12 · 10/07/2012 09:51

the school are being very unreasonable!
What does isolation involve?
It's cruel that your son is being punished for something over which he has no control. Stupid school!

yeahbaby · 10/07/2012 09:53

sent him with a note, so he can show each of the teachers he has. they dont answer the phone until after 9, until then you have to leave messages. so he would already have been in regestration getting told off before they knew.

OP posts:
yeahbaby · 10/07/2012 09:54

isolation is just that. they are kept in a class, only kids on detetion and report in the calss.

Feminine · 10/07/2012 09:54

Crazy!

How old is your son?

I'd also buy a very cheap something however, I don't think keeping him off is fair to your son.

Buttwart · 10/07/2012 09:54

Hmm, they are being unreasonable punishing him before finding out what the situation is. How embarrassing for him too.

Feminine · 10/07/2012 09:57

Sorry, just saw he is 12.

Right, so no cheap gym shoes then.

Umm, I don't know then?

I think the school are insane....12 year old boys grow massively all the time!

AKE2012 · 10/07/2012 09:57

The school need to relax the uniform rules for the last week of school. It would b a shame if your child missed their last week if school because of this.

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 10/07/2012 09:58

What would you do if you were going to work and your shoes broke? You'd buy a new pair because (in most places) trainers are not allowed. Same principle with schools - trainers are not allowed and so he needs a pair of shoes.

yeahbaby · 10/07/2012 09:59

the issue also being that i cant get him shoes at all till the weekend anyway. he came in from school yesterday, i was at work. today he is at school and im working 12 till 6. wednesday he is doing a music thing at school after the school day and thursday im working until 6. i cant buy him shoes without him being there. and i cant take him out of school to buy them.

The school and I speak as Chair of Governors at a primary.

Keeping him iin isolation is a wholly over the top and non-inclusive response, ffs.
