£40 for a pair of trainers. I am sure that a few years ago they cost about £25. I would love a pair but £40 is too much. Bah.

Well don't buy them. They are only glorified plimsoles.

GobblersKnob · 30/06/2012 17:07

Surely no-one pays £40 for them? Confused

Get them from amazon, my last pair were only £17.

cocolepew · 30/06/2012 17:07

Office sale has them from £20 upwards.

Petsinmypudenda · 30/06/2012 17:08

Shop around i paid £25 for some at christmas

TidyDancer · 30/06/2012 17:08

Compared to other trainers, they are actually quite cheap. I have one pair, can't remember exactly how much I paid, but I think it was around the £35 mark.

Vinomcstephens · 30/06/2012 17:10

tidydancer has got it spot on - £40 for a pair of branded trainers is cheap! I buy mine off eBay though - plenty of online retailers there selling them for about £20.

tiggyfours · 30/06/2012 17:11

Seventy euros here, but used to be 15 pounds in the nineties!!

ophelia275 · 30/06/2012 17:11

I have looked everywhere. Last time I looked on Amazon they were £37. If anyone knows where I can get Converse Ox size 5 in red for less than £30 (delivered if online only) please let me know!

I paid £27 for mine. Three years on they are still doing good. Obviously not my only shoe, so not in constant use, but value nonetheless.

Sparklingbrook · 30/06/2012 17:12

DS1 has just got himself a pair of Vans-£45. They are plimsolls, and Primark do a pair for £6 that look very similar. Hmm

pinkstinks · 30/06/2012 17:13

oops, I just bought some nikes for forty five pounds....but they were reduced from seventy five......

booksandchoc · 30/06/2012 17:15

They wear well though. Had mine for over 2 years, been worn practically every other day. Worth £40 in my book.

Mrsjay · 30/06/2012 17:15

dd2 got a pair of converse at christmas they were 50 quid Blush limited edition so worth the money honestly Blush

dd1 bought herself a pair for holiday the plimsole style for 4O

BridgetJonesPants · 30/06/2012 17:15

Not sure of the price of them a few years ago, but do know they were only £10.00 when I bought my first pair 33 years ago...... Grin when I was only 13 years old. So, taking that and the quality factor into it, £40 in 2012 isn't too bad a price!

My DD (7.5) has a pair which were £24.00 - much the same price as a pair of fitted trainers from Clarks, and they'll last her about a year (her feet don't grow quickly), so I think they're good value.

Intend to buy myself a pair soon once I can decide on a colour (it was so much easier in 1978 when you could only get the shoes in white), and this time, I fully intend for them to last me for the rest of my life!

ophelia275 · 30/06/2012 17:19

I know they are not too expensive for trainers but I would just feel guilty spending £40 on myself for a pair of shoes (I never spend anything on myself although I should occasionally)! I just remember them being so much cheaper when I was younger. Bah.

UnChartered · 30/06/2012 17:21

they are well worth every penny IMO

just bought a pair of Lee Cooper lookie likeys and they aren't half as comfortable as Converse

i shall be investing in a proper pair asap

freddiefrog · 30/06/2012 17:22

I love them, dead comfy and last an age and I've never paid more than about £30 for a pair.

I've had a cheapy £6 pair for Primark, they lasted 3 (v uncomfortable and blister filled) days before they fell apart.

The Cons I'm currently wearing cost £27 from Amazon this time last year. On a cost per wear comparison, Converse win hands down Grin

Mrsjay · 30/06/2012 17:23

ophelia go to SHUH ebay shop they might have them it isnt second hand its an outlet ,

Mrsjay · 30/06/2012 17:24

have to agree with freddie dd1 has had a pair since she was 13 she is now 19 and still wearing them in fact she has a few pairs and they have all lasted so i suppose you get what you pay for,

NettoSuperstar · 30/06/2012 17:25

I've never paid that price for them.
Last time I bought them, I got a black pair, and some gorgeous double uppers for £35.
They never die either, no matter how many times you chuck them in the washing machine.

Mrsjay · 30/06/2012 17:27

out of style ones Iyswim are never 40 usually as netto says 35 and under, got some in america the other year and they were not any cheaper than here tbh,

GetOrfMoiiLand · 30/06/2012 17:28

I think they are really bloody uncomfortable - too flat, make my arches ache.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 30/06/2012 17:28

Well that was a pointless post Blush

Dee03 · 30/06/2012 17:29

I pay £40 for Converse.....i love Converse

I only wear Converse...i have 5 pairs Grin

AliceInPoundland · 30/06/2012 17:31

Try Toms and SuperGas. I have both of those as well as Converse and think the Toms are the most comfortable
