£40 for a pair of trainers. I am sure that a few years ago they cost about £25. I would love a pair but £40 is too much. Bah.

I always put Birkinstock insoles in mine. I cant wear flat shoes of any description. I think I have about 9 pairs. I have to throw my white ones away because they have holes in them Sad

I was wearing my Blondie hi tops today Grin

Ok I'm going to get flamed here but I can't get my head round the fact converse, which used to be just for the cool kids at school to wear with skinny jeans and eye liner, are now uniform for middle aged, middle class mummies.

Much in the same way Barbour and Hunter have been embraced by chavs.

cocolepew · 30/06/2012 17:34

Classic Supergas are £20 online atm, thats half price.

UnChartered · 30/06/2012 17:34

fuck off with the middle class slur, ok? Grin

freddiefrog · 30/06/2012 17:35

The ones from Animal are nice too. I bought a pair in the sales and they're just as comfy as Converse and a bit cheaper - £30 on their website full price

cocolepew · 30/06/2012 17:36

Oi! Who are you calling middle class?Shock

NettoSuperstar · 30/06/2012 17:36

I'm chavvy as fuck, and love my ConverseGrin

pud1 · 30/06/2012 17:36

My oh works for converse. He has just told me that:

They have increased the price because they were distributed by a licensing company and since Nike have taken the brand back in-house they have decided that they were not priced highly enough due to manufacturing and material costs and increased the price. They have just announced another price increase that will take effect in jan 2013 which will put the price of a pair of chuck Taylor highs up to £50 and lows to £45.

I get mine free and never realised they were so expensive

cocolepew · 30/06/2012 17:36

Xpost Grin

UnChartered · 30/06/2012 17:37

maybe those of us who love Converse were the cool kids at school and have never lost it?

humm..hey?

but prob are just stuck in the past

cocolepew · 30/06/2012 17:38

Envy why cant my DH work for them?

UnChartered · 30/06/2012 17:38
cocolepew · 30/06/2012 17:39

I wear them because I dont like anything else except motorbike boots Grin

cocolepew · 30/06/2012 17:40

dude< we are the cool kids btw.

freddiefrog · 30/06/2012 17:40

I don't think I ever grew out of them tbh.

I've always worn them, I still have a pair from my teens which are my painting shoes now :)

They're comfy and I don't wear 'proper' shoes unless I'm at a wedding or a job interview

UnChartered · 30/06/2012 17:42

i had to wear proper shoes the other day, nearly fucking killed me Grin

am too cool for shoes, me

takingiteasy · 30/06/2012 17:42

Point. I do believe some of you may well have been the cool kids. But the mum's at school with them on alongside their Cath kidson satchels were never cool!

cocolepew · 30/06/2012 17:47

I hsve Cath Kidston converse rip offs..

Im too cool schol for skool me.

SlinkyB · 30/06/2012 17:48

I don't find them very comfy either GetOrf - too narrow and hard/flat on the sole.

I might try the Toms next then after the thumbs up from pp above, as also can't justify spending £40 on myself right now.

Oh, do they go in the washing machine ok then?

perplexedpirate · 30/06/2012 17:48

I looooove my Converse and will pay whatever they ask cos I have an addiction.

I am cool (I'm not).

Mrsjay · 30/06/2012 17:49

I dont wear converse i am middle aged but not middle class Wink they are just trainers hardly any kids round here was wearing them just the minority 'indie kids' when my dd first started wearing them and she certainly wasnt cool

GetOrfMoiiLand · 30/06/2012 17:54

Toms wash really well slinky (my dd has a few pairs).

Charliefarlie1192 · 30/06/2012 18:00

yabu

I have 5 pairs of converse, never paid more than £30

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/06/2012 18:01

Dd2 has two pairs of Converse hi-tops and tbh they do wear really, really well and come out of the washing machine looking like new.

I haven't got any although I am middle aged and (probably would be seen as but don't actually feel) middle class but I have been tempted to get some Converse Light (is that what the thinner, more delicate ones are called?) since seeing a woman in Waitrose (ha ha middle aged and middle classed!) wearing some with a plain maxi skirt and denim jacket, looking gorgeous.

redlac · 30/06/2012 18:01

Love my converse! Anyone else think the quality has dropped though? The glue at the bit where your toes curl always come away really quickly now
