AIBU to think that Converse trainers are too expensive!

£40 for a pair of trainers. I am sure that a few years ago they cost about £25. I would love a pair but £40 is too much. Bah.

I saw them for sale this morning for $38 in Target. This is their full price so adding 7% sales tax brings them to $40.66. This tells you that there is room for them being reduced from GBP40.

If I were you I would try doing a search on google shopping. This brings up everything on amazon, ebay etc. A quick search showed a pair on sale at JL for GBP31.

landofsoapandglory · 30/06/2012 18:38

As you are a size 5 buy kids ones, that's why I do. I think my last pair were about £25

ophelia275 · 01/07/2012 12:22

landofsoapandglory - all the size 5's are classed as adult on places like Amazon and are £40ish. Where do you buy yours from?

I think they they are good value, even at that price.

I often buy from Ebay, a lot of the Chinese suppliers are genuine, but a lot cheaper.

flapperghasted · 01/07/2012 12:34

I keep an eye on Hotdeals UK cos they flag up bargains to be had. I also do Ebay, Office and Schuh sales. Since dd went into adult sizes I buy next size up when the sales churn around. All worn shoes go onto Ebay. Usually get about a third of the cost back, so well worth the money we pay ime.

We went to Florida in March and came back with two pairs which cost $35. Both would have been £45 here, so we were well chuffed. Also got different coloured laces so dd can change her look at will :) DH also managed to get a black pair of hitops from a car boot for £2.50 that were like new, so dd is sorted for this year. £25 pair in cupboard for next year.

Hunters may be chavtastic, but dd has them cos no matter where I buy them from, she gets her money back on them and she deigns to wear them. Win-win, I'd say.

Hmm, I love my Converse but I do think they are too expensive for just canvas and don't agree that they last so much better than Primark type. I always seem to wear through the inner sole, v. annoying as I end up with holes in my socks! I do a ton of walking though as I don't have a car. I usually pay £35+ for mine as I am quite fussy which colours I'll wear and it's always the wrong colours on sale!

I have bought cheapo lookalike ones and they last OK but just not as stylish, I can't understand how others have made them fall apart tbh, I wouldn't say they are much worse quality than proper Converse.

YABU

Just because you'd like to buy something and can't afford it doesn't mean it is too expensive.

I think yachts are too expensive to buy and run - please can I have a yacht?

They are the correct price based on what people are willing to pay for them. If people were unwilling or unable to pay that much then the company would have to put the price down or else they wouldn't sell any. That's how "selling stuff" works.

My fav purple pair have a hole in where my little toe is on my left foot....i'm gutted, theyre only 2 years old! Now i just wear them to work Sad

DamselInTornDress · 01/07/2012 14:11

They are all my 2 youngest son's wear. They wear them daily and they seem to last forever. My boys seem to outgrow them before they need replacing through damage. So from my perspective I find them to be value for money.

Flisspaps · 01/07/2012 14:17

I wanted a pair of Converse hi-tops but couldn't afford them - and then spotted a pair of Lee Cooper hi-tops in Sports Direct for a tenner. They look similar enough to do me, AND they're way comfier than my old trainers were Grin

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 01/07/2012 14:20

DH just got a pair of converse on sale for £25.

Shop around.

exaltedwombat · 01/07/2012 15:31

Can you see past the label when choosing an item of clothing?

mollycuddles · 01/07/2012 15:44

I love my converse. Bought them originally for DS for a school trip last Easter. He'd grown out of them within 2 months but fortunately they fit me perfectly :)
He has a very nice coat I have an eye on for next winter.
I've finally found the silver lining in the cloud that is having a teenager

lazarusb · 01/07/2012 16:24

Dh bought me a customised pair of Converse for my 40th last year. They have my MN nickname sewn down the back of the heel! ...I am still waiting to notice a knowing look from a fellow MNetter Grin I love them, they are comfy, fit nicely and I can run in them if necessary.

NettoSuperstar · 01/07/2012 17:10

lazarusb, do you mind if I ask where he got therm from, and if you know, how much they cost?
It's one of my best friend's 40th's this year, and I'd love to get him customized Converse.
He bought me my first ever pair.

SPsFanjoLovesBrokenBiscuits · 01/07/2012 17:12

I'm a size 2 in converses so I don't pay alot as im in childs sizes! I paid £26 other day for a new out pair.

flapperghasted · 01/07/2012 17:17

I think the problem is that you're classed an adult as soon as you hit size 2 or 3, so you end up paying a premium for having larger feet. If you're in kids sizes, you can often pick up Converse for £15 - £20.

Dee03 · 01/07/2012 17:28

Ive got Lee Cooper one's too, in blue, very very comfy Smile

cocolepew · 01/07/2012 17:37

You can customise boots on their website.

cocolepew · 01/07/2012 17:39

Sports Direct have Lee Cooper ones for around £14. I was going to get DD a pair. They look like they are made from jeans.

lazarusb · 01/07/2012 17:45

Netto He got them from the Converse website and they cost £70 ish he says. He has now told me I'm nosey! I love them though Smile

DeathMetalMum · 01/07/2012 17:52

Try the junior sizes they go up to a size five and full price can be £5 or more cheaper luckily I am a size 4 so can buy kids shoes still for a fraction if the adult price. :o

BBisTitanium · 01/07/2012 17:55

Bought my black all stars 7 years ago £25 still going strong Grin
