Bitchy...

  1. I find her subjects boring and trite

  2. her journalism so petty and childish and ridiculous makes subjects even worse

  3. I find it repugnant when she or anyone else in the media makes rude/derogatory comments about people with learning difficulties,....That ALONE should get her the sack

  4. there are so many wonderful interesting writers out there - and loads doing great blogs...why/how has this woman still got a job?

And she's always moaning
"poor little me with no money and such a hard life"
and then in the next breath describing something or a situation which would be way out of the financial reach of most of us.

squeakytoy · 26/06/2012 10:39

"why/how has this woman still got a job"

because people read her articles.. even if it is just to mock them..

She purposely writes inflammatory pieces, because that is what she is paid to do. She has created the persona that she has, and it is probably nothing at all like the woman she is in real life, just the image that she puts in the public eye because it keeps her in a job. Like her or loathe her, her articles get attention which is the aim of the profession.

elizaregina · 26/06/2012 10:49

Squeaky I know - but its not like they are even good inflamatory or interesting inflamatory - just plain shallow and boring, her vlaues are soo boring too....

I used to enjoy loathing her. I used to read her articles (and, ahem, her books) for the sheer joy of mocking them. The pleasure has worn off now, though. I mainly feel boredom and discomfort when I read her, and have pretty much given up.

Nancy66 · 26/06/2012 11:23

what comments did she make about someone with learning difficulties?

Trioofprinces · 26/06/2012 11:55

She is boring, moany and self-absorbed. YANBU.

Ameliagrey · 26/06/2012 11:58

She produces features to a formula- agreed I presume by the DM.

As long as her writing draws people to the Mail online and comments are left, she will still have a job.

It's not about her- it's about the Mail making money and getting publicity from her writing.

RubyFakeNails · 26/06/2012 11:59

She is all of the things you said but the fact you felt the need to post, sort of proves she is good at what she does.

She isn't paid to write articles that will be not be read, she writes to be read and to gain attention. If something she says gets attention people may buy the paper or go to the website more. Look at Samantha Brick, the DM site hits must have gone through the roof.

Nancy66 · 26/06/2012 12:00

They are, at any one time, about six different threads running about LJ on Mumsnet - so she must be doing something right.

CakeBump · 26/06/2012 12:01

Ditto Nancy - what has she said about learning difficulties?

The woman is an evil troll (in the pre-internet sense of the word) whose wizened, blackened soul is evidenced in her toothy leer and oddly twitching, pointy face.

Whirliwig72 · 26/06/2012 12:02

My cousin used to work with her and assures me that she is just as self obsessed and neurotic in RL as she is in print.

elizaregina · 26/06/2012 12:03

sam brick = you know was being deliberalty confrontational - and she provoked a response, but ususlaly quite an interesting one....

LJ is just boring, any responses to her articles are usually for her to f off and grow up.

I dont like that phrase - grow up - but she is just like a 13 year old with the same issues....people usually commeent to say how boring and dull and irrelevant she is...

TheFarSide · 26/06/2012 12:05

You need to stop talking about her. I have a policy to never click on DM links and never get drawn in to giving her views air space.

I always suspect anyone who mentions her in a thread title or links to the DM is actually working undercover for them.

elizaregina · 26/06/2012 12:06

I cant remember the exacts quotes but in the past - when I have glanced at her coloumn in you mag - she had made rude and dissparaging remarks about people with LD.

I think it might have been in relation to a shop in the countryside having staff who look like they have LD or have them and are not giving her service or somthing like that...

I think its digusting.

OP posts:
elizaregina · 26/06/2012 12:09

Jones wrote that shopworkers "have learning difficulties and have never heard of illy coffee".'

this is one comment but i have seen several.

Whirliwig Crikey. I was trying to convince myself that she made it all up for the DM. Just skimming her column is an instant heart-sink.
The 'I'm so skint' appeal was the lowest moment I think. Didn't she have little old ladies sending her cat-food? Disgusting.

CockyPants · 26/06/2012 13:34

Dear Liz
Does this sound familiar?
Me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me
Oh. And Rock Star
Me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me
Woman get a life and stop calling yourself a journalist. You clearly are not.

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 13:41

She can be horrid but entertaining the 3 articles I have ever read. The last one being about how she is disliked by the people living in the village. I thought that was funny.

Lottapianos · 26/06/2012 13:46

YANBU. She's utterly ghastly. What really send me over the edge is when she refers to herself as a 'feminist' then totally trashes some other woman's lifestyle/face/thighs/outfit etcetcetc.

For a total change from Liz Jones, I highly recommend reading anything written by Grace Dent - she currently writes the TV column for the Independent but was previously at the Guardian. Google her and have a look at her articles. She's absolutely hilarious and staunchly feminist (in the real sense of the word).

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 13:52

Thank you for the tip, looks great already, I love new things to read.

Lottapianos · 26/06/2012 13:56

Yes that's her - enjoy! I love her, she's totally fab Smile

Viviennemary · 26/06/2012 14:00

I tend to avoid anything written by her as it's always to a formula.. There was something on anorexia recently which I did read and I didn't realise she has battled with it for years.

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 14:05

In me favourites now. LOL @ Grace's prediction of what happened to Billy Piper's teacher characterv after the end of the episode of True Love. So true :)

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 26/06/2012 14:08

Ah Liz Jones. I shall regale you all with my Liz Jones spot, which happened just this month. I spotted her coming out of Zara, from where she'd obviously been doing a spot of 'research' for her column. And, ladies, she was dressed in a very crumpled old camel coloured trench coat

and

The most shocking pair of Adidas 3 stripe jogging bottoms.
O how I laughed.

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 14:19

How does she afford Adidas bottoms? Shock
