It's ok for her to talk about anorexia as she suffers from it herself; & knows other anorexia sufferers. She understands the condition from her own experience & can therefore provide insight.
Dementia, the LCP, euthanasia are NOT good subjects for her to write about.
I know her mother has dementia but I feel that in order to write a balanced article on dementia then she needs to do proper research & interview actual Dementia Nurse Specialists, MFE Consultants, carers & a wide variety of dementia patients themselves.
She should actually look at the LCP, interview DRs & nurses who use it, then observe patients who are in the process of dying & see how the LCP works.
Re: euthanasia (illegal & i hope it remains that way) - again, she needs to examine the full legal & ethical issues surrounding the subject if she wishes to write about it.
Personally i'd like to see her change her current views & campaign for better funding for palliative care & to find ways to improve the quality of life for very sick or disabled people.
But it's unlikely as i think she does lack a fundamental understanding of other people's feelings - fair enough; plenty of people lack empathy for others. Once a person reaches middle age it's extremely hard to gain emotional skills that you lack.
That's why it's best for writers & journalists to stick to subjects that they have good knowledge of, & have a real passion for.
Animal welfare is clearly a passion for Liz & i've enjoyed reading articles on her rescue pets & horses, she's written some good investigative articles on the subject.
Fashion is also the topic that she shows real interest in & is very knowledgeable about; so she can write well about it.
She does overshare as do a lot of columnists - i don't get why people do that (but yes, it's fun to read...).
I do not like her attitude towards people in the service industry - sadly reflects how badly many of the public behave towards shop workers, waitresses etc etc - i feel like forcing her to work in a hotel for a week. Maybe a month. :))
