to understand why newbies feel unwelcome when there's a certain group of people on here that think mumsnet is all about them?

I really do understand why there is a 'flouncers corner' on this site and I understand why people feel the need to go to it!
Six months ago I joined this site and on my first ever thread there was about 10 people who all clearly knew eachother and started their own conversation and completely ignored me! I felt really unwelcome but just thought it was a one off. Ever since then I've begun to realise that its like school on here and theres the 'popular' group who seem to think that everyone should know who they are and so they just hijack everyone elses thread and talk amongst themselves ignoring other people in the process! I was even in a thread yesterday and there was a discussion and one of the popular ones said something along the lines of ' oh its jack, havent seen you for a while, hows your dad?'
To me that was rude and if you know eachother that well then shouldn't you be emailing or private messaging instead of being so rude? I can honestly say I have said something regarding to what the OP was asking and been completely ignored by what send like the usual lot talking about scones or something Hmm
Another thing which I hate is all the private jokes flying around which is between the usual lot and no one else. Fanjo??? Grow up!
The only time people seem to get noticed is when they have changed their name to something like one of the popular peoples names! Remember the whole 'whos impersonating sue's thing yesterday??? seems like thats all people cared about as yiu are sooo popular so

one of the woolly hugs

Lovelynewboots · 23/05/2012 11:28

I too have been lurking. The main reason I started posting is because my hearing has got really bad, so normal conversations in a pub which I used to enjoy have got really difficult. It is just like any new group, if you want to join you have to give it a go. I like the fact people say exactly what they think and even if I haven't posted I have often listened to other peoples advice. I think you need to give it more of a chance. There are some conversations I have seen on here where the person is clearly vulnerable and they have been given excellent advice.

FoofyShmooffer · 23/05/2012 11:29

OP - I read far more than I post and find that sitting back and reading some of the stuff other posters come out with can make my day. Sometimes I chip in, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I get a response, others I don't. It's all in a day and it's not to be taken too seriously.

(or just what stepawayfromtheecclescakes said)

I'm a fairly wallpaper poster which is fine cos I'm actually famous. Wouldn't want to out myself.

truthful · 23/05/2012 11:29

Im going to shut up now anyway.

BFF 4eva??

Truthful in all seriousness you shouldn't take it all so personally, I lurked for a whole year before posting, and I still kakked myself when I first posted, but everyone was so lovely and supportive!

And if anything, I think mnetters have taught me to have a second thought before I judge people especially when it comes to P&C spaces :o

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/05/2012 11:32

I said 'Hello Talc, how's your dad' on a thread yesterday.
It was a joke as her dad is is isn't Terry Wogan.
Is that what your'e talking about OP?
And I love how threads go off on tangents, they can turn some rather trollish threads to something lighter.

ABatInBunkFive · 23/05/2012 11:32

I am also actually famous, what a small world.

ZZZenAgain · 23/05/2012 11:32

can't remember what I thought of it when I joined up now. You do start to recognise names if you spend too much a lot of time on here. I chat to people whose nicks jog my memory a bit on threads, I wouldn't go posting a whole load of PMs though, it is an open forum so I don't really see the point in chatting via PMs.

Do sort of remember there was a quite vocal group who dominated a lot of threads back then and seemed to know each other quite well but tbh I didn't feel fazed by it. Now , I suppose I just don't notice anymore, just the way MN is I think.

Tangointhenight · 23/05/2012 11:32

Foofy...are you a singer???

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 23/05/2012 11:32

Sorry, I'm in a grumpy mood, I tried to go shopping without taking painkillers. Was probably unnecessarily harsh and serious. Lesson learned is that sunny days are busy days, and not really good idea for me to go shopping.

Hullygully · 23/05/2012 11:33

Hello Bat

LBE I thought you said that to Tifty? Not Talc

I was in netmums for such a long time before I came here. Its alot different. You lot seem to hate hugs and kisses and fluffiness. I dont know why you hate them so much and call them nethuns just because they are nice.?

OP posts:
YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 23/05/2012 11:34

Just join in with it all op, it can be quite funny sometimes as my fanjo nn proves
Keep posting and you'll "recognize" people that you share a twisted sense of humor with and start hijacking yourself :)

ZZZenAgain · 23/05/2012 11:34

and I agree with LadyBeagle who is actually a great friend of mine, (how are you chum? remember Manchester, eh? what a scream) that the tangents are the best part of the threads

ABatInBunkFive · 23/05/2012 11:34

Ach, some people are nice some people are nasty and some are just plain weird, funnily enough just like in real life. Grin

Hullygully · 23/05/2012 11:34

I think the Lt speaks truth

sugarice · 23/05/2012 11:35

Who is Foofy?

DuelingFanjo · 23/05/2012 11:35

Oooh, am I one of the popular ones?

ScooseLooseAbootThisHoose · 23/05/2012 11:36

Well truthful if nm is such a great place why bother with mn? I can't see what you are hoping to achieve with this op Hmm

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/05/2012 11:36

Why did you leave Nethuns mums if it is so much nicer?

FoofyShmooffer · 23/05/2012 11:36

I'm Deirdre Barlow.

But for gods sake don't tell Ken.
