My ex wife and i share are children, as she work's nights we have them four nights each, we have two by the way.
She gets all the child benefit, am i being unfair to want to split it two ways?
My GF isn't working at the moment and my ex say's she will give me some when GF starts.

Depends what else is in the pot. Depends who is earning what. Depends who is paying for the children's stuff.

IAmNotACowbag · 16/05/2012 15:21

You have them when they're asleep? Or daytime too?

BumpingFuglies · 16/05/2012 15:25

What does GF working have to do with it? Confused

gooddad · 16/05/2012 15:25

I have them four nights and four days a week, then they go to there mams four days four nights, she has a BF living with her, she buys school stuff for them, i just feel it would be fair if i had something

Does it really matter WHO has the child benefit so long as it IS being spent on the children/for the good of the children.

Sirzy · 16/05/2012 15:28

So if she pays for all the school uniform and bits what do you pay for? If he pays for all those 'extras' then of course she should get the money

JesusWept · 16/05/2012 15:29

Their not there

IAmNotACowbag · 16/05/2012 15:31

dad what are you looking for money for? Is there something in particular you are contributing unfairly towards? If she's paying for school stuff, presumably food and shelter etc surely she needs it for them?

Magneto · 16/05/2012 15:31

There are only 7 days in a week.

And "our" not "are".

hairylemon · 16/05/2012 15:34

Yanbu if you pay towards their general living 'costs' or pay maintenance that covers at least half their costs. If you don't pay via csa why not see if ex will agree to reduce those payments?

gooddad · 16/05/2012 15:35

Ex is on a rolling rota and sorry for spelling, hopefully my message came across
i also pay for food and shelter

YANBU

I think you should have a proportion of the money. ExW should have more if she buys their clothes.

CherryCheesecake · 16/05/2012 15:35

Did he ask for a bloody spelling lesson? He asked for advice, leave him alone.

IAmNotACowbag · 16/05/2012 15:40

Have you asked her for a proportion of it yet?

gooddad · 16/05/2012 15:49

I have asked but she thinks it will supplement my GF and no i don't pay maintenance

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 16/05/2012 15:56

What's half the CB for two kids?

Hardly enough to 'supplement' your GF unless she lives on dust and water Confused

WorraLiberty · 16/05/2012 15:57

Oh I've just realised you don't pay maintenance

I think you're having a laugh lol

Nice try been done to death though

ObiWan · 16/05/2012 15:57

It depends, I suppose.

Does your ex pay for all school trips, uniforms, extra curricular stuff, clothes, shoes - or do you pay 50%.

Child benefit is only awarded to one parent, how did you decide in the first place that it should be your ex?

To be honest, it is such a small amount of money per week, it isn't really worth causing upset over, just to make a point.

Sirzy · 16/05/2012 15:58

Who gets child tax?

Who pays for clothes, after school clubs etc?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 16/05/2012 15:58

Well surely if you dont pay maintenance then your ex is forking out for most of their stuff then? Like someone else said as long as its been used for the benefit of the children does it really matter who gets it.

bumpkinbillionaire · 16/05/2012 15:59

If you are having them 50% of the time then it would seem reasonable to split it but not if she is paying for more stuff than you are. If you want half the CB you need to pay for half of their school stuff etc.

thepeoplesprincess · 16/05/2012 16:00

Why should he pay maintenance if they do 50/50 Worra?

LaurieFairyCake · 16/05/2012 16:00

WHY don't you pay maintenance? I don't understand Confused

Who's paying for all their clothes/food/school activities etc????

UnChartered · 16/05/2012 16:01

who pays for the DCs clothes/shoes trips out etc?

IAmNotACowbag · 16/05/2012 16:01

Basically you pay for whatever electric / food / gas / water they use when at yours?

Do you pay for anything else? Clothes? Shoes? Trips? School costs a big chunk!
