Where has it gone? Just as I was about to start sprucing it up for the jubilee and start tatting the bunting?

Alas I cannot aid you ladies with cavity filling tonight.

One of my young gentlemen is leaving Dotheboys Hall, having at the last minute convinced the masters that he shall indeed be worthy of the honour.

I have been flogging him for the last 2 years and feared the worst, all despaired but yet the happy news reached us 2 days ago.

I am away to cheer. And he can work all bloody summer in the haha or for Cook in the scullery to make amends for his shoddiness and the frights he gave me.

A juniper tisane first, while I ready myself.

Well done the young master miss Fids

FidBoy1 passed what is the aged 16 school cert thing here. Skin of his teeth. Was told by his teachers since Jan he'd fail (calls and letters and stress) and it was only decided on Weds that he had scraped by. Leaving ceremony was Friday. His class teacher told me he's the brightest student they've had in years and the last few months have been stressful all round. He started working and got enough As and Bs to balance out the bad marks.

I was so relieved and proud seeing him all dressed up and knowing he wouldn't be the only one there but not getting called up for the cert.

Then it all went downhill - he lost his wallet, someone took it. It fell out of his trouser pocket and the woman in the row behind saw someone pick it up. Then in the kerfuffle he gave his cert to a friend to hold. Who left it somewhere.

The wallet has his ID (need it to travel to the UK in 3 weeks) his health insurance card, travel card and the rest of quite a bit of money I gave him to buy decent shirt/trousers for the ceremony and the wedding in 3 weeks.

It rather took the shine off the evening.

Oh Fids...

At least he got the damn thing, albeit briefly...Let's hope the someone is decent enough to nick th emoney and hand the rest in. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed here too. He's going in to the school later to ask.

It has been the worst school year I've known for all 3 and for me (as a parent and for other reasons, working there too) Really seemed like an ongoing nightmare. For 2 wonderful hours on Friday I forgot it all. I think I'll just hold my breath till this Friday when term ends for the other 2.

But the ID, insurance card, money etc. is all replaceable, the hassle is annoying. The cert if it doesn't turn up can be duplicated by the school.

I was just disappointed for him that it took the shine off the evening and to be honest, for me too After so many setbacks (not just bad marks but threats of SS, suspension, hospitals, counselling et al.) I would have loved a whole school event where nothing went wrong. Hey ho.

I know. We can only dream...

Sorry you've had a crap year, can things only get better?

Report
Fiderer · 01/07/2013 09:11

They definitely can and will

The whole SS thing was a vindictive manoeuvre by my ex-boss at the school as she had no other reason for effectively demoting me but to say I wasn't coping in my job as I was struggling as a single mother. I stood my ground and fortunately I reported it all at the time to HR.

She's now back after extended sick leave (aka sulking) and things are fraught but I stick my chin out and smile brightly.

This is rather cathartic. I don't seethe but I will never forgive her.

She used the fact that my daughter was having problems settling into her new school to make things even harder for her just to malign me. The class teacher was young and new and the HOY was piling on to her. So there were lots of accusations and no support for my daughter.

I got a few mumbled half-acknowledgements from the head and another member of the school management. The class teacher and current HOY are all embarrassed by it now, hence the atmosphere being rather fraught.

FidGirl goes happily to school now, that's what matters.

FidBoy1 is finished and FidBoy2's HOY knows exactly what happened with FidGirl and is very much on his and my side for next year.

So a happy end of sorts.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

Why did she want to demote you?

Report
Fiderer · 01/07/2013 10:54

I don't know what is wrong with people. I do know why she wanted to demote me but I have to leave for work now.
Where I will stick out my chin and smile brightly.

Links arms with Fiddy. I have just had a day of curt rude emails from one of my colleagues. I just want to send ranty one back but no, I am being polite and calm. It's in a field where you expect better too. Off to the shed to find doll and pins, coming?

My friend brought me back a voodoo cookie doll set from yon Deep South. I'll get busy on your behalves.

Report
Fiderer · 01/07/2013 17:30

Oh yes, voodoo will doo...

Poor Mini - you do just wonder WHY? as Hully would put it.

As to why it all my stuff happened - she panicked, was hysterical, I couldn't calm her down. Then she was embarrassed and although it was just between us and no one else knew so a "Blimey, sorry" would have ended it all, she couldn't do that. So it escalated. A minor work mistake on her part and 6 months of hell, frankly.

FidBoy1's cert turned up - but not his wallet.

Gawd. It's all ego innit. Hands over more pins. Don't we need some hair or spit or summat.

Do you think we ought to give Fids some sort of knighthood or title. For endeavouring sanely in the face of whack jobs and awfulness?

Lady Fid sounds good.

Empress at the very least.

Glad Fidboy's cert turned up. Bastard about the wallet.
