Where has it gone? Just as I was about to start sprucing it up for the jubilee and start tatting the bunting?

Jins · 16/07/2012 14:09

I was made to feel very uncomfortable

sybilvimes · 16/07/2012 14:19

I think the pirates will be perfectly happy with only 3 petticoats. Even less would probably make them happier still...

I think the most important thing to pack is that box of little umbrella's the vicar got the poor to make for us. A rum tisane is not the same without one.

Also Fids is correct that the pirates believe it to be more healthful to paddle without the harmful influences of clothing, this should cut down considerably on our packing...

Jins · 16/07/2012 14:24

I've packed already! Look!!!

No sooner has Mistress Hully left to preach our ways in the wide world and you are trying to inveigle me out of my petticoats.

Fiderer · 16/07/2012 14:35

Lawks Jins, how many petticoats do you need? There are many poor orphans who need clothing - I do believe we should sacrifice petticoats and hats and shawls for their comfort and suffer the indignity of (bear with me for 'tis all new) shorts and a shirt of T and straps (?) Jins can advise us and we shall be far away from the Staring Ladies and their hats.

Jins · 16/07/2012 14:48

Fair enough Mistress Fids I will instruct the pirates from the bay to scuttle the ship and distribute my petticoats amongst the poor :(

I must rescue my especially pretty 'pulling petticoat' first though. It's an heirloom!

How do I look in my new outfit?

sybilvimes · 16/07/2012 14:50

Do you think Madame Hully's head is currently spinning around exorcist style? If she ever finds out we went out without corsets I for one am leaving home.

Fiderer · 16/07/2012 14:55

Jins you look in need of sunlight but the new-fangled shortsy things suit you.

Syb - I suspect that when in forrin climes Mme Hully will also forgo her corsets. How else could she preach and pray in the heat?

Jins · 16/07/2012 14:56

I fear it will be :(

She will be incandescent when if she finds out

Fiderer · 16/07/2012 15:00

Nonsense. I am certain Mme Hully will laud our selfless donating of petticoats and understand that in forrin climes while doing Good we cannot be held to Hall standards.

Plus, remember Buenos Aires...

sybilvimes · 16/07/2012 15:01

I don't believe she ever forgoes her corset. I remember seeing one of the poor broken orphans after she had been ministering to him and he had whalebone scars!

Jins · 16/07/2012 15:02

There'll be no shortage of sunlight where we are headed.

I'm so excited! Do we have sufficient pamphlets?

Fiderer · 16/07/2012 15:11

Yes, pamphlets and possets galore. Also 'Tatting Kits for the Unenlightened'. 'Make your own Tisanes' for the Shriven. 'Orphan Care for the Caring'.

at whalebone Syb. I think it was something entirely different.

Umami · 16/07/2012 20:11

I am embracing the Donating of the Petticoats. Why, I even gave my best kid gloves to one of the <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=posing+pouch&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1280&bih=617&tbm=isch&tbnid=xb6IyAr1bhgomM:&imgrefurl=www.fanpop.com/spots/vintage-beefcake/images/27645338/title/posing-pouch-model&docid=fui-KGute-3RgM&imgurl=images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/27600000/Posing-Pouch-Model-vintage-beefcake-27645338-491-600.jpg&w=491&h=600&ei=4WYEUN-cM8X80QX0suiuBw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=726&sig=114955186715321109252&page=1&tbnh=125&tbnw=114&start=0&ndsp=26&ved=1t:429,r:23,s:0,i:144&tx=69&ty=70" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">dear orphans, that he might craft himself a modest covering.

Even the first mate has been swept up in the charitable events. Blessed be the works of The Lord.

Jins · 16/07/2012 22:15

I wonder if perhaps we are going too far the other way.

No. You're right. I must move with the times

Fiderer · 17/07/2012 11:44

Wonder what is in that orphan's tea-cheat (avoids using 'trunk')? He seems very keen to keep the lid on. Petticoats perhaps?

Jin, look how delighted the orphans are. I think they are weeping with joy.

Stand by for the launch - we need only to wait for Watkins to make sure the plug is tightly in the keel.

Fiderer · 17/07/2012 11:44

'tea chest' - I must have been distracted.

Jins · 17/07/2012 11:54

That's a really nice trio of orphans you've found there!

sybilvimes · 17/07/2012 12:34

To be fair, the first mate doesn't really need clothes judging from that depiction. He practically has a pelt.

I have decided to leave my stockings at home. If we are going to travel sans petticoats then let's be really bold.

Fiderer · 17/07/2012 13:06

We could shave him and use the clippings to weave on-deck sun shades. Not sure I would like to be the one to do that, mind.

Here a lithograph of the Ladies before the launch and here we are having a pre-luncheon swim. Who is keeping the album? Hall records must be kept. Which reminds me, Hully and Mini have yet to add their lithographs of Buenos Aires.

Minimammoth · 17/07/2012 22:48

I had a very chats time in BA. I dedicated myself to the tango
I'll have you know, Don Constantinos dos Giganticos was such a good tutor.

I have fond memories of Don Rodriguez dos Cervezas Por Favor, Don Chorizo, of the nights we dined with Una Paloma-Blanca and her cousin Eviva Espana.

Our Caribbean adventure will be just as much fun. They have such refreshing tisanes. Glasses must be too expensive for the poor folk but that is perhaps just as well as we could slip while praying and drop them.

Minimammoth · 18/07/2012 13:57

The tisanes must be adjusted to the local ambience, just a splash of rum maybe. Have we set off yet?

OP posts:
Fiderer · 18/07/2012 14:02

Yes, HMS IPOAT is afloat. Cocktails at 6 in the Captain's Lounge. Formal attire, min. 1 petticoat.

Minimammoth · 18/07/2012 19:20

No bustle then? No stays? Corsets? Hmmm. Off to rummage in trunk.
