Please follow my rather simplistic train of thought...

Your servers keep going offline

Therefore you need new servers

New servers are expensive

Therefore you can't just waltz into Waitrose and get some new ones imagine finding that shopping list

Adverts pull in revenue

There are half a million or so Mn'ers ignoring the irritating flashy things down the side of the forum

AIBU to suggest we all click lots of adverts so MNHQ can get more money and buy a new server?

I'm no help I've got adblock..

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2012 11:34

On a different note

I tried to send a PM earlier and one of the ads was covering the bloody box you're supposed to type in!

HelenMumsnet · 30/04/2012 11:35

Oh yes, please do click on a few

HelenMumsnet · 30/04/2012 11:36

Do you remember which ad it was, Worra?

McHappyPants2012 · 30/04/2012 11:38

SoupDragon · 30/04/2012 11:39

which ads pay per click and which pay only if an order is placed?

savoycabbage · 30/04/2012 11:43

Can we get one of those bar charts that they have on Blue Peter to show how much we have raised towards the new servers?

AvocadoAndFitch · 30/04/2012 11:46

Are we having a sponsored ad click-athon

didn't read Helens message as MDF bondage at all

KatieScarlett2833 · 30/04/2012 11:49

OK Helen, just for you...

Kveta · 30/04/2012 11:52

I clicked on some ads and the site crashed immediately Confused

so not sure that's the best idea?

(clicked on the Mark Warner and GLTC ones)

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2012 11:54

No, I have a built in mental advert blocker in my brain...something my Mum instilled to stop me asking for toys Grin

But if it's any help, it was on Site Stuff and it was red and square.

PurplePidjin · 30/04/2012 12:13

I think they pay a tiny amount per view, then more per click?

And iirc you can add exceptions to adblocker, so the firefox bods can join in Wink

PurplePidjin · 30/04/2012 12:19

And the bigger the ad the more the company pays I think. So clicking lots of banner ads at the top of the page will raise more dough than the littlies down the side.

Feather Down Farms - who knew?

insancerre · 30/04/2012 12:28

What ads?
I've got adblock too.

fedupofnamechanging · 30/04/2012 12:37

I clicked on the babies r us ad, even though I don't have a baby!

Please fix this soon MNHQ - if it carries on I shall be forced to converse with my husband.

Tee2072 · 30/04/2012 12:40

It would appear, based on the logo and 'hosted by' in the bottom right hand corner of every page that MNHQ do not, in fact, own their own servers.

Did, perhaps, HQ forget to pay the hosting bill rather than needing new servers themselves?

KatieScarlett2833 · 30/04/2012 12:41

Mark Warner

Helen, this had better be worth it!

fedupofnamechanging · 30/04/2012 12:42

Okay then.

DSC, if you are going to 'host' MN, please do it properly and stop cutting me off!

HelenMumsnet · 30/04/2012 12:45

Bless you all.

BusinessTrills · 30/04/2012 12:48

Are you paid per click then, or per impression? Or both?

Catsmamma · 30/04/2012 12:48

HelenMN is building some shelves, not a new server!!

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 30/04/2012 12:52

I'm nosey curious.

Is this a hosted / cloud based site or run on local physical / virtual servers?

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 30/04/2012 12:53

Ahh, just seen Tees post. Hosted with DSC.

Kick their bottoms.
