Please follow my rather simplistic train of thought...

Your servers keep going offline

Therefore you need new servers

New servers are expensive

Therefore you can't just waltz into Waitrose and get some new ones imagine finding that shopping list

Adverts pull in revenue

There are half a million or so Mn'ers ignoring the irritating flashy things down the side of the forum

AIBU to suggest we all click lots of adverts so MNHQ can get more money and buy a new server?

OK, so not all the lyrics are relevant to MN right now, but the chorus certainly is...

mistlethrush · 30/04/2012 21:53

I can't click anything in between the site being down - which seems to have been most of the time this evening!

Perhaps someone on b3ta might be able to suggest a solution MNHQ? Wink

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 30/04/2012 21:55

TUT - I hope you actually needed one Grin

What did you buy?

TheUnsinkableTitanic · 30/04/2012 22:01

ahem, not needed one, but wanted one.....

need a bigger drum, quicker cycle time

went for the Beko one that was being advertised :)

been thinking about it for a while, just hadn't settled on a brand

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 30/04/2012 22:04

LOL - oh well, at least it wasn't completely out of the blue Grin

Softlysoftly · 30/04/2012 22:08

Work in the team that placed a recent campaign on here so I reckon I've done my bit for severthon and I want a free YABU T-shirt for the effort.

FerryGirl · 30/04/2012 22:14

I am learning so much from the adverts!

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2012 22:54

This is beyond a joke now the amount of times MN goes offline Sad

AllYoursBabooshka · 30/04/2012 22:55

Anyone actually know why it's doing this?

Are you guys doing stuff to the site? :)

mistlethrush · 30/04/2012 22:57

Perhaps Tech's on holiday?

TheSameButDifferent · 30/04/2012 23:21

So, in a nutshell, do we know what the problem is? I hope some poor bugger isn't having to stay up all night re-setting the bloody server.

mistlethrush · 30/04/2012 23:30

Lets hope they've outsourced it to India - that way they'll be getting up soon anyway. Grin

blackeyedsusan · 30/04/2012 23:47

when I refresh i get a message asking if I want to resend the post... tis very helpful as mn goes offline at the most annoying times...

JustineMumsnet · 01/05/2012 00:06

@TheSameButDifferent

So, in a nutshell, do we know what the problem is? I hope some poor bugger isn't having to stay up all night re-setting the bloody server.

Well, in a word, not exactly. Or two words, rather. But do not despair, Tech has a list of possibilities and is banging away in the shed, working his way through the list. It may take a day or two [crosses everything] but we will keep at it till we locate the exact problem. A thousand apologies for the inconvenience.

Meantime clicking on all the ads can't hurt Wink

ChaosTrulyReigns · 01/05/2012 00:27

Have you got your SwishyWhip poised for action Justine?

blackeyedsusan · 01/05/2012 07:47

Brew for Justine

Brew Brew for techie... hitting it with a stick wouldn't work then? [ludite emotion]

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 01/05/2012 08:18

Someone, somwhere has tinkered with something or upgraded something.

Thats normally what does it. Tinkering and upgrading.

SilentBoob · 01/05/2012 08:31

[snigger] at Tech banging away in the shed, working his way through a list.

Should someone take him out a cuppa? He'll be parched.

JustineMumsnet · 01/05/2012 08:57

You're so right keema, I should introduce a Tinkering Embargo...

WorraLiberty · 01/05/2012 09:00

SilentBoob, my thoughts exactly Blush Grin

Blatherskite · 01/05/2012 09:21

This is why DH has to be on call after every tinkering session - so when it breaks, he can fix it.

Poor bloke has to get up at 2am to faff with it in the first place and then stay up all day fixing the problems the tinkering causes!

Someone needs to remind them of the phrase "if it ain't broke..."

lookingforchocolate · 01/05/2012 09:30

perhaps mn should shout for a teenager its what i do for IT stuff

fusam · 01/05/2012 11:49

Tech should post a thread and I am sure we can all fix it together. Isn't this what MN is about? Error logs would be handy .

Hullygully · 01/05/2012 11:52

Goodness, it never ever occurred to me that one was supposed to click on the demn adverts.

Whatever next?
