Please follow my rather simplistic train of thought...

Your servers keep going offline

Therefore you need new servers

New servers are expensive

Therefore you can't just waltz into Waitrose and get some new ones imagine finding that shopping list

Adverts pull in revenue

There are half a million or so Mn'ers ignoring the irritating flashy things down the side of the forum

AIBU to suggest we all click lots of adverts so MNHQ can get more money and buy a new server?

Poor Johnny, poor poor Johnny...

chipsandmushypeas · 30/04/2012 13:24

I thought fugly was fucking ugly

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2012 13:25

Fugly can also mean fucking ugly

As in the case of Boden clothes Grin

KatieScarlett2833 · 30/04/2012 13:25

It is chips

Tee2072 · 30/04/2012 13:26

Nope. Fugly = fucking ugly. So anything can be Fugly.

KatyMac · 30/04/2012 13:26

@ 1p a post I'd owe you £12.88 since the start of the year

That would work out at about £38.64 over 12 months

Tee2072 · 30/04/2012 13:26

Definition of fugly

SlipperyNipple · 30/04/2012 13:28

Norfolk - Yes cat stroking while gloved finger poised over the 'world domination' button.

gymmummy64 · 30/04/2012 13:28

The baby sitting on the floor in the Beko ad has been bothering me for ages now - why is it there? What is it doing? And how does it help sell washing machines?

PurplePidjin · 30/04/2012 13:30

Helen, are we actually doing anything useful here or what? If not, what can we do?

OP posts:
Fillybuster · 30/04/2012 13:31

Even if they're being hosted (cloud, virtual blade or box farm in a pop) MN will still be paying for space, power, licenses and data....only real difference is being able to outsource the physical and virtual space management

Love the idea of ServerAid. Can we have a concert to back up the Blue Peter fundraising chart idea?

HelenMumsnet · 30/04/2012 13:32

@WorraLiberty

Have you checked your servers aren't being fiddled with by men wearing Super Hero costumes? Grin

Ok poor taste....

justonemorethread · 30/04/2012 13:32

As long as we're not feeding the mnhq gin habit.

(goes off to click)

Hassled · 30/04/2012 13:33

Yes, the abandoned small child is upsetting. I do actually have a Beko fridge freezer and it makes noises as though the abandoned small child is somewhere inside it.

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 30/04/2012 13:35

I do not accept this definition of fugly Hmm

Grin
ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 30/04/2012 13:36

Of course it's Fucking Ugly = Fugly.

MNHQ
Last time we were having server issues the techies were looking into a way of saving our posts (that we were in the process of writing/sending) until it came back up - how is that going?? It is so bloody annoying writing a long post (especially in relationships etc) only to have it go offline the minute you hit send and it's bloody annoying trying to remember to 'copy' each post before you press send....

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 30/04/2012 13:37

Holy - you think Fugly = Fat & Ugly is better Hmm

KatieScarlett2833 · 30/04/2012 13:37

Holy

Get thee to Boden and click

Grin
QuintessentialShadows · 30/04/2012 13:37

How about removing the "Facebook Recommend buttons" so that all the people who decided to install adblockers can uninstall the addblockers so they can SEE the ads, and click on them?

A perfectly good trade off I think.

Blatherskite · 30/04/2012 13:38

Ah, I see your problem HolyCameraConfusionBatman but I'm afraid you're wrong. Fugly is definitely a contraction of fucking and ugly and is therefore perfectly for clothes as well as people. If it were fat and ugly, I'd agree with you but it's not, so I don't.

Grin
KatieScarlett2833 · 30/04/2012 13:39

Wouldn't Fat and Ugly be Fagly ?

OTOH, maybe not.........

Wink
membrillo · 30/04/2012 13:39

we used to actually have subscriptions (for CAT service)... I would pay a voluntary sum to be here.

Blatherskite · 30/04/2012 13:40

Precisely Katie ^^

mistlethrush · 30/04/2012 13:43

Wondering whether Tech (with or without superhero cape on) might contact host provider and complain about downtime and get some money back?

PurplePidjin · 30/04/2012 13:47

I want to buy all the Mumsnet guides but have no job and no spare cash. The same applies to voluntary contributions. And I'm by no means on the breadline, there's folk on here choosing between food and petrol. So whatever we decide either needs to involve attracting corporate investment, or it needs to be invisible/anonymous.
