Had enough of their agenda being forced down my throat whether I want it or not. Major recruitment drive going on lately, and serious opression of other posters views. Just gets worse and worse. This was not what I believed MN was supposed to be about.

I'm off.

OP posts:
BIWI · 21/02/2012 18:55

I may not always/often agree with some of the more, shall we say 'vocal' posters in the feminist section, but I'm bloody pleased that they are there.

I can't see how you, as a woman (I assume?) would object to a mostly female board having that kind of a section.

So - goodbye to you.

BelleDameSansMerci · 21/02/2012 18:56

Cheerio then.

WorraLiberty · 21/02/2012 18:56

The fact that so many people stick around and new posters join all the time gives the lie to MN being unpopular or not inclusive, wouldn't you say?

That (to me) depends on how long they stay after joining, and if they feel able to join in without being insulted or ridiculed for their opinions.

I think the worst 2 boards for that sort of thing is Feminism and Relationships sometimes.

OriginalJamie · 21/02/2012 18:56

This forum is massive though. I don't see that happening.

PopcornBiscuit · 21/02/2012 18:58

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/02/2012 18:58

ScottishMummy - the derailing, in this case, was on a relationships thread. I really don't think an argument about the rights and wrongs of feminism helped the poster sort out her relationship issue.

WorraLiberty · 21/02/2012 18:58

OJ it is massive in once sense but quite small in another

People tend to stick to the few topics that are busy so that cuts it down I think

TiggyD · 21/02/2012 19:00

Not a great flounce for me. I prefer to see much more bitterness and ideally personal insults.

5 out of 10.

Oh well, I've been around for nearly 8 years.

Of course there will be an awful lot of people who lurk and don't post (I didn't for ages after joining).

Now I can't speak for anyone else of course but I think MN is great and broadly speaking a real force for good, especially where women's rights are concerned.

Leave the bastard (site).

Do some people really not make pancakes from scratch?

Al0uise · 21/02/2012 19:03

NetHuns is -----> that way. Don't forget to start crocheting your glittery ticker.

cornsilkteamdixon · 21/02/2012 19:03

that would be an ecumenical matter

WhereYouLeftIt · 21/02/2012 19:06

I'm intrigued. From her postings, OP appears to have been here less than a week. S/he's complaining it's becoming RadFem. S/he's hardly been here long enough to get a feel for it, never mind detect a change, surely?

flippinada · 21/02/2012 19:06

Rhinos if any poster has been bullying you then please report it to MN as it is very much against the ethos of the site.

Speaking personally, I've reported posts where I think there's an element of bullying and that sort of thing is taken seriously,

WorraLiberty · 21/02/2012 19:07

Yeah but she might have been here for years and a reg name changer?

scottishmummy · 21/02/2012 19:08

I had some massive rucks on fem topics
got told to leave
called derailer
what about the menz
there was a don't talk to scottishmummy when she posts thang
had a poster callout to mate to pile into support her
....and frankly it's no biggie
I won't be told, where, what to post, nor does the youse a bad un cut it

need ability to post pile in
if it does begin to impact and affect real life, and it's all SadAngry faces then do take wee break

it's only words on a screen

really

WhereYouLeftIt · 21/02/2012 19:11

Worra, would someone who's been here any length of time call it MumsNet rather than Mumsnet or MN?

WorraLiberty · 21/02/2012 19:12

I have no idea WhereYou Grin

catgirl and worra - always the voices of reason, or something close to it! As demonstrated on this very thread there are posters who might be described as RadFem who seem to think it's perfectly ok to tell people to fuck off, call them morons etc when anything even slightly anti-feminist is voiced. THAT is what puts people off.

Beginning to think the same thing.

Though I wouldn't call it anti-feminist. It depends on what your definition of feminism is and what your approach to achieving change happens to be. You can have views that are more complex and more pragmatic about achieving change that some people interpret as being anti-feminist because it doesn't match their own views.

As for the flouncer. Well, it would be fine on MN if radfeminism and liberal feminism were both allowed to have a voice and be respected. Sadly it seems to be a one way street and there is way too much bullying for anyone who is seem as somehow not showing enough support for the 'sisterhood'.

Don't blame her. I hope that she flounces and reinvents. We need more views like hers to balance things out.

in bad ole days there was too much antifeminist putdowns by a vociferous minority. a def you can't say that here vibe

but since mnhq clarified fem topic not fem board it did considerably calm down

Would this be a good place to point to MN new campaign on rape and sexual violence?

Nothing wrong with a spot of feminism Smile
