to think Huggies are rubbish?

I was tempted by Morrisons toddler event thing, and bought a pack of Huggies for DS4 a couple of days ago, normally we use the other big brand....

They leak a lot (even when there not much wee in them). They need changed more often, and they smell. These half price nappies have created a pile of washing which will equal the amount of money "saved"!

With my previous DS's I also thought they weren't a good as the other brand but I thought maybe they would have improved in the past few years!

YANBU I've either worked in a nursery or nannied young children for 5 years (so changed a lot of nappies!) and IME, huggies are one of the worst brands.

peers anxiously at Huggies her mother has just brought over

Oh Confused
I'm not due for 2 weeks and have the other brand too so I'll watch this with interest lol

lazylula · 30/01/2012 18:08

I have had no problem with them but have found in the past that different brands suit different children. The other big brand leaked terribly on ds1 but was fine for ds2. All three have done well with own brands too.

ChitChatInChaos · 30/01/2012 18:08

I think it's more to do with the shape of your child than the nappy. I used the other brand, huggies always leaked for my 2. A friend found the other brand always leaked and only used huggies.

Seona1973 · 30/01/2012 18:09

I used all sorts of brands when my kids were newborn and they were all fine. I didnt like huggies when they got older though. I used pampers and sometimes tesco and boots nappies

I use Huggies and have no issues with them, although use alongside real nappies so perhaps my view of what constitutes a leaky or smelly nappy is slightly skewed! Grin

oldmum42 · 30/01/2012 18:14

Changing them MUCH more often than I would with the Pampers, but still have 2 changes of clothes today, both times the nappies were not "overfull", and overnight in the cot too........ if I get one leak a week with the Pampers, I think it unusual!

Don't know if it's a boy thing? A friend says she always used Huggies and found them better - she has 2 girls.

Maybe my boys are particularly Pampers shaped?

Huggies were rubbish for both of my DDs but they were the only brand of nappy that didn't leak for DS!

I gave into penny pinching curiosity at the Tesco baby event the other day.

I hate them!

thepeoplesprincess · 30/01/2012 18:20

I always found they were much stretchier around the leg, so they probably would suit a bubba with more than an inch to pinch.

SchrodingersMew · 30/01/2012 18:22

^ Agree, they seem^ much comfier and DS is a big baby in 4+ size at 4 months but they leak and they stink and are just not worth it.

nomoreminibreaks · 30/01/2012 18:22

I find that Huggies leak if DS sleeps through but Pampers don't. Due to various baby events I have hundreds of them to use though!

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 30/01/2012 18:23

I actually like them. I think it does depend on your child's shape (and position they sleep in).

NotjustaMummy · 30/01/2012 18:23

Loathe them! The Dd is long and narrow, the just leaked everywhere. It's Naturecare or Pampers for her, although I do keep admiring the fuzzibuns cloth ones...

StealthPenguin · 30/01/2012 18:26

I'm the same as the OP with my DS - Huggies are bad news!! I put DS in Huggies overnight twice and both times he got so wet he soiled through the nappy, through his babygro, through his jammies and through the sheet. The second time around we had to buy a new mattress!! Utterly ridiculous.

DS has been in Pampers ever since and they are sooo much better. If we have a leak in the morning it's an "OMG" moment. And he;s never soaked through anything other than just his first layer of clothing in Pampers, if he ever soaks through. Huggies made an absolute mess!!

brdgrl · 30/01/2012 18:28

absolute rubbish, worse than any store brand.

i would probably try EC before I would buy huggies again.

DarcieandSkysmum · 30/01/2012 18:28

I don't like huggies or pampers I find they leak. I use Tesco or Sainsburys own brand they are brilliant.

ouryve · 30/01/2012 18:28

I think Huggies and Pampers tend to fit different body types. DS1 was always better off with Pampers, DS2 could use either without problems.

Becaroooo · 30/01/2012 18:28

2 dc - tried all the brands over the years...the best IMO?

Asda own brand.

Seriously.

FunnyLittleFrog · 30/01/2012 18:28

I much preferred Huggies. The other brand didn't suit DD at all and leaked everywhere.

oldmum42 · 30/01/2012 18:28

Mmm DS4 is very active, tall, in size 4+ but not very plump round the legs so maybe just not a good fit for him.

The smell......I though DS was ill!
