to think Huggies are rubbish?

I was tempted by Morrisons toddler event thing, and bought a pack of Huggies for DS4 a couple of days ago, normally we use the other big brand....

They leak a lot (even when there not much wee in them). They need changed more often, and they smell. These half price nappies have created a pile of washing which will equal the amount of money "saved"!

With my previous DS's I also thought they weren't a good as the other brand but I thought maybe they would have improved in the past few years!

DS1 was a very skinny baby and Huggies fitted much better than Pampers and therefore didn't leak.

DS2 was more rotund and Pampers fitted him better.

JADS · 30/01/2012 19:37

It depends on the baby. Huggies were crap for DS. We use Aldi own at night (cloth during the day) and they are brilliant!

ArtVandelay · 30/01/2012 19:40

I really didnt like the huggies - they leaked all the time and fit DS badly. Pampers active fit are also a strange fit on him. Baby Dry and the cheap ones in the orange wrapper are fine!

ShhhhhGoBackToSleep · 30/01/2012 19:44

DS is a long child, and Huggies always fit him best. Never had a problem with leaking either. I hate the chemically smell of pampers, AND they bring him out in a rash AND they leak. Naturcare are a great fit too, but a bit pricey.

Birnamwood · 30/01/2012 19:45

I think it depends on what shape your baby is tbh. They were fine for ds1 who was a completely average sized baby but they are hopeless for ds2 who is, shall we say, slightly Buddha shaped :)

scottishmummy · 30/01/2012 19:47

Depends on your babies lil arse.buggies suited my weans
Pampers asked keech, down legs up back

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 30/01/2012 19:47

My DD is 7.5mo and we use pampers, I can't actually remember the time she leaked in them. Everytime we used huggies she leaked within half an hour!

i find huggies really good for my DD..sadly she is now 5.3 and almost out of the size 6s so we will have to go onto the special needs ones which I find nowhere near as good.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 30/01/2012 19:55

DD is tall and skinny so maybe thats why, I see a few small bummed kids got on well with them

Astronaut79 · 30/01/2012 19:55

Loved huggies for ds, but mainly used costco's own-kirkland. recently discovered asda and used for bltj ds and dd. nappies can go 15 hoiurs overnight without leaking.

crap typing, have proper arem holding squalling dd.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 30/01/2012 19:55

still..maybe DD will be toilet trained before she needs size 7s..have done my share of nappy changes now! Grin

HappyAsASandboy · 30/01/2012 20:00

I have a boy and a girl in size 4/4+. I use a mixture of huggies, pampers and tesco value nappies and they all leak about as often as each other (prob once a week between the two babies). The value nappies won't last overnight, but they go a good 3/4 hours in the day.

The nappies all look and feel completely different before and after use, but they all seem to work for my two. I buy whatever is on offer - aim for 7p/8p per nappy Grin (and buy in bulk when I find them at that price - I have a houseful of half price huggies at the moment, just finishing up a batch of pampers!)

TheUniversalsHere · 30/01/2012 20:01

I love Lidls Toujours. Started using from size 3 so can't vouch for smaller sizes but they seem to reach further up DS's back, have a double 'barrier' so less likely for poo to come out sides unless a real bad one/doesn't get noticed and changed in time. Are really lovely and soft. Come in packs of 50 and are roughly half to a third of the price of Huggies.

Prior to that I did try Huggies and Pampers but not awe struck. Morrisons own would be my second choice after Lidls which are rated number one on nappy reviews on here I think. If you live near a branch try them! (I sound like I work for Lidls but can assure you I don't!)

SchrodingersMew · 30/01/2012 20:03

Becaroooo They feel so lovely and soft as well. Gutted we can't use them anymore. :(

Btw, out of curiosity - what age are babies normally in size 4+? Starting to get a bit worried here. Confused

foreverondiet · 30/01/2012 20:05

I don't understand how they are such a big brand. I have tried them with each DC (DD, DS1 and DS2) and I hate them for all the reasons the OP states - they leak, they aren't that absorbent.

I use pampers, but have found supermarket own brands at least as good as huggies if not better.

We recently had to use huggies dry nites for DS1 nearly 5 (sadly not dry at night) as we ran out of pampers and so horrible... (crinkly, smelly, etc etc)

Sirzy · 30/01/2012 20:09

Schrodingers - DS is 2.2 and in size 4 plus huggies.

SchrodingersMew · 30/01/2012 20:12

Sirzy Do babies end up going up and down nappy sizes as they get older? Sorry I'm a bit clueless here, ds is my first and is in 4+ already at 4 months and am a bit worried if we have to go up any more.

scottishmummy · 30/01/2012 20:13

All depends,I hated pamperS
tesco own brand were good and available in size 0 for my teenies

ChitChatInChaos · 30/01/2012 21:21

In Australia Huggies have boy and girl nappies, and they're actually really good. UK Huggies leaked like crazy for my DSs, but they don't sell Pampers in Australia so had to try Huggies again and was surprised how happy happy I was with them.

Diamondback · 30/01/2012 21:27

Huggies leaked on my DD, and I'd just bought three giant boxes in a promotion when I discovered this Sad

So, I used the Huggies during the day when I'm changing more often, and switched back to Lidl Toujours (which are great) for overnight, out and about, and when I anticipated long naps. HTH.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 30/01/2012 21:37

fanjo Tena maxi sn nappies are great. these size 7's are good too, they are the children's version of tena.

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 30/01/2012 21:39

YANBU I have had the leaking problem with DD as well in huggies, asda own brand are fine for the daytime but only pampers baby dry cope with 12 hours at night.

Miette · 30/01/2012 21:48

It used to be that Huggies were better for babies with bigger thighs, but leaked if the child had smaller thighs. Pampers better for children with smaller legs.
