to think Huggies are rubbish?

I was tempted by Morrisons toddler event thing, and bought a pack of Huggies for DS4 a couple of days ago, normally we use the other big brand....

They leak a lot (even when there not much wee in them). They need changed more often, and they smell. These half price nappies have created a pile of washing which will equal the amount of money "saved"!

With my previous DS's I also thought they weren't a good as the other brand but I thought maybe they would have improved in the past few years!

Yanbu, huggies always leak on ds. I find asda own brand and aldi the best.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 30/01/2012 21:59

Miette that would explain why Huggies were the only reliable brand when ds was a baby. Pampers were disastrous. This was a million years ago, mind.

Thanks keepingupwith :)

LivingDead · 31/01/2012 01:31

I usually just buy own brand, whatever supermarket we are visiting that week, but I do find huggies are very stiff and unabsorbent, do prefer pampers, they are quite soft and fit well, although are quick to do the undignified toddler knee dangle Grin.

BadaBingBang · 31/01/2012 01:35

In Australia huggies are the premium nappy, but they are different to the ones sold in the UK. One of the big supermarket chains tried selling pampers, but they failed to sell many so gave up within a couple of months.

DaenerysTargaryenButCallMeDany · 31/01/2012 01:37

my two dd's have both suited huggies and yes they were/are fat babies Grin

dd2 sleeps on her front and also sleeps through, I find pampers leak every single time whereas huggies are perfect.

huggies baby wipes otoh.... absolute shite!

RealLifeIsForWimps · 31/01/2012 01:45

I like Huggies more than Pampers, especially the pull ups. I think a lot of it is to do with the shape of the baby

BUT, here's the weird thing based on the comments above, DS is a string bean (80th ht centile, 50th weight).

However, I live in Asia so they probably make them in Asian proportions.

Agree re those wipes in the cream pkt. They just tear when you try to get them out. really annoying.

Tinsie · 31/01/2012 02:05

YANBU. I don't like Huggies either. Pampers or Asda own brand (Little Angels) work well for us.

gastrognome · 31/01/2012 05:52

Another Huggies-hater here. We use washable nappies during the day and disposables at night. Pampers have always been fine at night, but the Huggies have leaked almost every other time. They also do a sort of horrible seeping thing through the actual main part of the nappy, if they are too full. Yuck.
(And they test on animals, if you care about that sort of thing)

patsdeadfrank · 31/01/2012 06:06

have 4 and huggies have been naff for every one.leaking and needing changing all the time. pampers all the way. huggies wipes are rubbish too your fingers literally go through them, pooy fingers are bad.

OatcakeCravings · 31/01/2012 08:16

My DS is out of nappies now (hurrah!) but I used Huggies as I found them the best, never leaked unlike other brands. I found Pampers the worst but only after they changed the design of them, before that they were fine.

So I don't think its fair to say that Huggies are crap as it clearly depends on the dimensions of your child!

GirlWithPointyShoes · 31/01/2012 08:27

I always found Huggies smaller size nappies rather hard and lumpy so always used Pampers but their pull ups were great.

I agree with the leakyness but DS peed for Ireland most days anyway.

Woodlands · 31/01/2012 08:47

I hate Huggies, I find the filling goes into lumps inside, especially overnight, so they look horribly uncomfortable. I agree they smell funny too.

My favourite nappies are Pampers Baby-Dry, the ones in the orange packet. They often work out cheaper than Sainsbury's own brand too. The only annoying thing is that I buy size 4 but would prefer to buy size 4+ (DS is 18 months and about 12kg, and I think the size 4+ would be less likely to leak at night) but I can NEVER find them.

COCKadoodledooo · 31/01/2012 09:26

Of course Huggies are rubbish - all disposables are by definition :-P

Never had a problem with Lidl's own brand here.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 31/01/2012 11:06

Have used Pampers, Huggies, Sainsburys own brand and Sainsbury's basics. Hated Huggies as always leaking and smelled funny. Found the basics ones just as good as Pampers and Sainsburys own brand and a fraction of the price. And they last through the night as well. Have been using only basics for almost a year now and have had 2 or 2 leaks maximum.

ConcernedGrandma · 15/07/2012 10:38

My daughter and my niece both have small babies. Both used 'Huggies' with the indicator strip. Both found that their babies screamed for no apparent reason. One mum noticed that her baby stopped crying as soon as she took the nappy off. This tip was passed on and the other mum noted that the nappy got hot when it was wet. Both mums changed to nappies without an indicator strip. Now we have two happy babies.

FadingAwayToAHippo · 15/07/2012 10:43

I preferred pampers for newborn but huggies from active for both my dds.

However my dnephew who is same age as dd1 borrowed a huggie once (well dsis did, dn wasn't changing his own nappies) and he peed right through!

So, in conclusion huggies better for girls :)

FadingAwayToAHippo · 15/07/2012 10:47

Gastrognome I didn't know about the testing on animals!!

We are on our last pack anyway as DD2 dry during day and been dry most nights do once this pack is done, no more nappies, for first time in 4 years!! :)

VolAuVent · 15/07/2012 10:50

I've found Huggies to be one of the best. Must depend on the child I think!

LurkeyLurkerson · 15/07/2012 11:16

Different strokes comes to mind!

I used Pampers for PFB because the pattern was prettier than Huggies but they were both much of a muchness.

Then times got hard and I started putting her in Asda's 'Little Angels' and they are great. Never leak or smell and cost far less than the bigger brands.

My nephew on the other hand, had terrible excema as a baby and only Huggies didn't causeva flare up, so they were worth their weight in gold to Dbro&SIL
