But not saying because it's not "PC".

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the rich out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply the wealth by dividing it."

Dr Adrian Rogers is talking out of his arse as usual holds somewhat different views from me.

spottyscarf · 21/01/2012 20:04

Well it's not what I'm thinking. I raise you 'each to his abilities, each to his needs' (or words to that effect- difficult to quote Karl Marx while BF in the dark)

YABU. If that's what everyone else is thinking I'm a fucking weirdo quite clearly :)

He is missing the part where "the poor" are not as a rule actually standing about doing nothing with their hands held out - they are trying their damnedest to make a way in a world which is deeply unfair.

Dr Adrian Rogers is oversimpifying a deeply complex issue in order to make a (very right wing) political point.

TheVermiciousKnid · 21/01/2012 20:08

YABU and clearly very wrong.

Notthefullshilling · 21/01/2012 20:09

Oh dear I do hope Dr Rodgers is not the one that will decide on health care allocation, the poor will certainly be legislated out of the picture as he seems to think they do not deserve to exist.

runningwilde · 21/01/2012 20:11

I think fork makes a good point

Although I do also think the welfare system is out of control - it was created to help people, not for people to sponge off the state (note, I am not saying that all people on welfare do that but a fair few do). Of course peole
In need should get help - but it needs more assessment and not br used as an excuse to not work.

ForkInTheForeheid · 21/01/2012 20:12

Adrian's wiki page

Slavery = good (possibly)
Homosexual/pro-choice = bad

Ok, I've cherrypicked but you get the point.

Notthefullshilling · 21/01/2012 20:12

The other part about not thinking because it is not "PC" is meant to mean what exactly O? Are you inferring that being PC has stopped people from suggesting alternative points of view to solving different economic and social problems? If this is what you are saying you really do need to go and inform yourself what Politicly Correctness is for, not what the Daily Mail says it is for.

willselfless · 21/01/2012 20:13

YABU and Adrian Rogers is talking shit.

Define " needs".

Last time I looked fags, tellies and takeaways weren't needs.

I'm sure there are lots of people that think it but don't say it because it's un PC.

But then there will also be lots of people that think it's bollocks.

animula · 21/01/2012 20:19

No. that's not what I was thinking. I was thinking that maybe this was a post linked to the Magicians programme on television atm. And vaguely about Ian Somerhalder.

I think tethers and squeakytoy have pretty well summed up my immediate response.

I also think that it's depressing to think like that. And a bit bananas.

"During the past fifty years, there has been a threefold increase in artificially irrigated crop land. Even so, almost one billion people suffer from chronic malnutrition"
Who Owns the Water, Lars Muller publishing.

Anniegetyourgun · 21/01/2012 20:21

No, I really wasn't thinking that. However, one line does stand out as having some sense to it: "What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving." Only I doubt he means what I would mean by it.

You see, the majority of poor people in this country do work quite hard. They just don't get paid very much for it, hence why the government has to pry some of the excess out of employers' hands and redistribute it. It's known as benefits, but it's really the missing part of their earnings. If low-paid workers did not create more wealth than they receive then there would be no profits to tax. Logical, no?

ReindeerBollocks · 21/01/2012 20:22

Wow the fact that George Osbourne has announced that we as a nation are still struggling, has only led to furthere separation and division between the upper/middle/working classes. Seriously it's like one benefit bashing thread a day. Couldn't you wankers lot at least round up and organise one good thread a week, because the daily threads are diluting people's ability to give a shit.

And honestly who the hell is Dr Adrian Rogers anyway? And why should I give a shiny about his right wing bullshit opinion?
