But not saying because it's not "PC".

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the rich out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply the wealth by dividing it."

Karl Marx has clearly inadvertantly killed multiple millions of people via USSR, Stalin, Trotsky (BBC), Chekov, Castro, Mao etc, etc. If someone had burned all his work before anyone could read it think of the millions who would not have died in the name of 'the casue'

**YABU. If that's what everyone else is thinking I'm a fucking weirdo quite clearly smile

He is missing the part where "the poor" are not as a rule actually standing about doing nothing with their hands held out - they are trying their damnedest to make a way in a world which is deeply unfair.

Dr Adrian Rogers is oversimpifying a deeply complex issue in order to make a (very right wing) political point.**

The poor would be much better off if there was no tax on them and so no 'welfare', they'd keep all of their earnings and be able to compound this instead of paying it over to the government paper shufflers.

He was from the US, so spoke about a completely different society, with a different political history than the UK, oh and supported slavery, which would have meant that the industrial revolution would never had happened, because we needed lots of people to buy goods for it (and our society) to work.

His ideas cannot be used cross culturally.

Bet I know what everyone's thinking now:

"i wish I hadn't opened this thread. Not again. Not another one. Oh, life is getting a bit grim. Where's the chocolate? Is it too late to go an buy some?"

Birdsgottafly · 21/01/2012 20:29

Marxism isn't Communism, just like Christianity isn't Catholicism, they are similar but not the same.

ReindeerBollocks · 21/01/2012 20:29

I have liquorice alsorts if anyone wants to swap for chocolate?

GirlWithPointyShoes · 21/01/2012 20:30

People who think this are probably the same ones who this "A Modest Proposal" seriously.

LoopyLoopsHootyHoots · 21/01/2012 20:30

Journo?

GirlWithPointyShoes · 21/01/2012 20:31

Allow me to write that properly.

People who think this are probably the same ones who this "A Modest Proposal" should be taken seriously.

fridakahlo · 21/01/2012 20:31

"One out of fifty children in the United States is homeless"

"Children make up 26% of the US population but are 39% of the people who live in poverty (the poverty rate is higher for children than any other age group"
Micky Z Occupy for US Children.
I suppose we should just send them back down the mines, should we OP?

GirlWithPointyShoes · 21/01/2012 20:31

Think

I GIVE UP!

Birdsgottafly · 21/01/2012 20:31

OP what country are you talking about, the US or the UK?

The problem with the UK was that wages were not high enough, look up the Rowntree report into poverty at the turn of the 19th century, which is when the planning of the welfare state began.

cheekyseamonkey · 21/01/2012 20:34

Squeaky & anewone, a 31 w preggo, with a cold, choking on a pineapple chunk & snorting is NOT a good look, but thanks.

OP did you start only buying DM for the debenhams discount coupons then get sucked in? Classic excuse.

YAB(twatishly, bored on a sat night so thought you'd conjure up a shit storm)U

OriginalJamie · 21/01/2012 20:35

I'm thinking that people who use the term PC, except to refer to a computer, are ver probably, twats.

fridakahlo · 21/01/2012 20:35

Would quote facts from the UK but I don't have any to hand right now. I hope it's not that bad.

tethersend · 21/01/2012 20:36

"There are three types of people in this world; those who can count and those who can't"

D0oinMeCleanin · 21/01/2012 20:37

Again? Really? Another benefit bashing thread?

I never thought I'd say this but does no-one want to start a thread on staffies/dog shit/cat shit etc? I fancy a bit of a change. This is beginning to get boring.

bigeyes · 21/01/2012 20:38

Survival of the fittest

YuleingFanjo · 21/01/2012 20:38

OriginalJamie · 21/01/2012 20:39

Reindeer

squeakytoy · 21/01/2012 20:40

There are easter eggs in the shops.. has nobody started ranting about them yet Grin ..

fridakahlo · 21/01/2012 20:42

Well, Bigeyes, when you and yours are struggling, I hope you won't be expecting help from anyone else as you clearly don't need it, being one of the fittest.
The point about being civilised, becoming civilised, forming a civilisation is that we are all meant to move beyond evolutionary struggle in order to work together to make it better for everyone, and yes, I do beleive we can and should do this.

whatdoyouthink101 · 21/01/2012 21:10

Actually been in the gutter and never claimed any benefits, just used hard graft and will to get me out of trouble, and no I'm not a rich look down my noser, but will be rich through sheer will, determination and educating myself. If anyone gets benefits it should be a proviso that they educate themselves in financial managemt and I don't mean 'the best savings rate' because your a mug if you think bank savings is going to help in anyway with inflation at roughly 5% a year for the last 10 years whatever Gordon the numpty told us it was. Don't tax any personal taxes and no benefits would be a gift from above for everyone especially the poor check hong kong for example, you think rich people pay taxes? No they educate themselves to pay less than you so 'fair' means no personal taxes and get government out of our lives, they ruin everything they touch and do it very expensively

Can anyone translate the OP's statement at 21:10:54? I seem to have suffered brain failure.

Hassled · 21/01/2012 21:19

Just to clarify, the right-wing homophobic doctor from Exeter is not the same person as the right-wing Baptist from Florida (linked to partway through thread). I believe the OP is quoting the former, who once upon a time was my GP.

OriginalJamie · 21/01/2012 21:20

Annie, it's not just you. Lack of punctuation can have that effect.
