Thats the one Elaine! Do you remember the dungarees-and-sunhat combo? :o

I remember in ED that the loser boyfriend suddenly became the perfect partner over the course of the pg instead of what normally happens, which is that he has already made his next GF pg by the time his first GF has given birth!

What got me about it most, thinking back, was I received mine when I already had a small child and was pg again. But only the black friend already had kids and they were tween or teen twins. So there was nothing about looking after a toddler whilst pg or having a newborn.

Bogeyface · 15/01/2012 22:46

Dr Miriam also recommended lino as flooring for the nursery!

ElaineReese · 15/01/2012 22:47

They were teen twins called something stupid like Sally and Sarah. IT'S THE SAME FUCKING NAME!

Bogeyface · 15/01/2012 22:49

:o It was just so divorced from reality wasnt it?

ElaineReese · 15/01/2012 22:51

Today nick and I did some generic shit appropriate to the week of pregnancy that I am. Repeat times 40.

Gooshka · 15/01/2012 22:57

Fabulous thread - lying in bed wetting myself!!!! Grin

Bewilderedmum · 15/01/2012 22:58

There was a mad picture of emma curled up on the sofa, whilst nick hoovered around her, in a display of manly caring, with an earnest expression on his face that said "now ladies - worship at my feet!"

LeBOF · 15/01/2012 23:01

God, not the foot thing again

Bogeyface · 15/01/2012 23:08

Be fair LeBOF, he doesnt have a dick to worship!

LynetteScavo · 15/01/2012 23:13

Hahaha! I briefly considered lino in the back bedroom nursery. I thought it would be not only healthy, but trendy. Hmm

Bloody Emma's Diary.
Got it given to me when I was pg with DD.
OH was in the Army, in Germany and 'not sure about this' Hmm
I was about to be made homeless and all on my own.
I didnt exactly connect with fucking emma and her fucking hubby.

I bought Paula Yate's baby book and much prefered that.

I still didnt find ED that much use by the time I had DC5 tbh even though OH had decided to stick around by then.
Shame Kerry Katona hadnt bought out a baby book.

As well as foisting ED on me, MW insisted I took the breastfeeding dvd. She MADE me even though I kept telling her I didnt need it and had only just stopped bf DC4 so pretty much knew what I was about. More bloody tat and a waste of money. I am sure it was great but what is the point of forcing it on someone who doesnt need it? Confused

I hated Emma and her Diary and I don't think I got past the 'night out for a curry' entry before I felt like stabbing her in the eye (and settled for hurling her diary in the bin). That was five years ago, in my first pregnancy, and in the two that followed it I gave it back both times.

But after DS was born we did get this little booklet, one half aimed at the mother and the other half at the father. The mother's half was rubbish but the father's half had this bit in it about a new dad meeting some soppy cow in the shop and she asked him about the baby, in a baby voice, "Is she ikkle? Is she just ikkle and bootiful" and he said "No. Well she might be beautiful one day but at the moment she looks like a peeled monkey" and that really cheered me up, given that I had been describing DS as looking like a skinned rabbit and getting Shock faces pulled at me by everyone.

DrCoconut · 16/01/2012 00:55

Am I imagining that Emma had a husband called Peter in the original? Has she left him for Nick? And I definitely seem to recall that the baby was called Lucy Kate and was born with just a few pushes and a whiff of gas and air. No flump or screaming for an epidural as in the new one? My DS's are 13yrs and 9 mths so I'm pretty sure I have seen two different versions.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 16/01/2012 07:08

I still have my 0-5 book from when DD was born. They were new then and given out by the LHA.
It was full of tips and advice and right on cartoons of interestingly dressed people from diverse backgrounds Hmm

I remember this storyboard of a bf mum. It went: baby on boob mum all happy and smiling, baby on boob mum looking a bit uncomfortable, baby on boob mum in agony and them both crying.

I remember it because thats what happened to me. All brilliant for a day or two then nipples from hell for two weeks.

So at least it showed me I was not alone!

I must dig it out. It will be interesting because LOADS of info has changed in the last 20 years.
