It's SO BLOODY INSIPID

I don't remember it at all but ds is 17 now so perhaps I missed it. I do remember the ridiculous blue and beige books though. They assumed everyone had an IQ of no more than 70 and I can't remember a single sentence being aimed at a couple who had planned their baby and had the means to support it. Everyone else was represented though.

startail · 15/01/2012 17:40

Shit DD1 is almost 14.
Emma's diary was out dated patronising rubbish then.
I didn't get a copy when I was expecting DD2 (10), perhaps the MWs don't waste them on Mothers who signup for a HB at their first appoinentGrin

marriedinwhite · 15/01/2012 17:42

The sentence I have just remembered and which really annoyed me at the time (notwithstanding the bits about growth which confused the average and the mean - probably the median too) was something about - when you have had your baby you need to find ways to relax, possibly painting your toe nails!!

MustControlFistOfDeath · 15/01/2012 17:43

In that link she is wearing mum boots (but wrong colour) and has the mum haircut. Smile

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2012 17:44

I thought Emma was a proper person (in 1999) not a cartoon character.

Garliccheesechips · 15/01/2012 17:44

Maybe they should do Emma's Diary II.
Nick has left her now. He's transgendered. She had an affair with a man from work but he didn't end up leaving his wife in the end but by this stage she was pg with DC 12 and was unsure as to the paternity.

Flump has an ASBO.

I remember her pregnancy fashion tip - to wear a scarf round your head and chunky earrings to 'distract attention from the bump'

wtf

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2012 17:48

Do they still do the Bounty packs as well?

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 15/01/2012 17:49

Emma was smug. Her cliched friends in less than perfect circumstances pissed me off too. The ne line I remember was 'I'm glad me and dp don't argue like that'. Twat. And where would Emma even meet and become friends with a pregnant teenager anyway? I binned the whole Bounty pack this time. Liberating it was.

perplexedpirate · 15/01/2012 17:49

This thread is way overdue, Emma is a dick.
I remember one bit about dancing all night cos of her 'happy hormones'. Fuuuuuck oooorrrrfffff! If I could have found time to dance between all the throwing up I'd have used it to have a lie down, not party with the 'girlies'
Angry

TheFoosa · 15/01/2012 17:51

I have never heard of Emma or read her diary, where does it come from?

mildertduck · 15/01/2012 17:54

Didn't they manage a weekend away in Paris funded by her not-drinking-booze savings? Fuck me that must have been a serious habit...

No Bounty packs for me so far; they keep forgetting :( Emma's Diary was inflicted on me by a colleague, though.

Kveta · 15/01/2012 17:55

God, I hated that stupid diary last time. It was so painfully ethnically aware too, which I found strangely annoying.

Was it based on a real Emma, or when it started, was that just a popular name amongst pg women?

Anyway, I refused the Emma's Diary this time, and also went through the Bounty pack and stripped it to the bare essentials. Basically, this meant emptying the bastard over a bin, and keeping the folder, as it's quite handy for carrying notes and sample tubes.

Merrylegs · 15/01/2012 17:56

God I read and re-read Emma 16 years ago - she was in a real life book and was a real life (posed by a model) person.

Am arfing at the fashion tip, AmazeGosh - almost the only thing I remember too. Wasn't it a chunky necklace to draw attention away from the bump?

Too funny.

I devoured her.

There was No Other Information in them days.

Bogeyface · 15/01/2012 17:56

Imo its better now than it was almost 20 years ago when it first came out, so you can imagine how bloody awful it was :o

I actually enjoy reading it purely for the laugh!

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2012 17:56

I think there was a second lot of Bounty stuff around weaning time it came in a huge box with bog all in it IIRC.

Tequilamockinbird · 15/01/2012 18:00

Is Emma now a cartoon character then? Shock

She was a real person 14 years ago, shoulder length brown hair and looked strangely familiar (was she an actress?)

Infact I think I may still have it somewhere in the loft!

StealthPenguin · 15/01/2012 18:01

YANBU.

Some wanker rang me the other day from British Gas, told me that he was a promotion from Emmas Diary, and was wondering if I'd had my 20-week scan yet. I told him that he was a bit fucking late, my DS is 6mo now!

I think he said mimblewimble before hanging up. But couldn't be sure.

Bogeyface · 15/01/2012 18:01

In the original it was photos rather than cartoons and she was wearing the 90's version of mum jeans and boots, it was navy leggings and loafers. She had the 90's mum hair too of a short curly bob :o

I remember thinking that she was very smug, especially slagging off the teenager who was struggling to quit smoking when she said something about "I am so glad that I gave up before we started to try for a baby" .

Garliccheesechips · 15/01/2012 18:02

I have a question. Is Emma BU?

had a mega row with Nick on Friday. I came home from work feeling totally wiped out but happy as I thought we?d agreed to spend the night in and watch a DVD together but, unknown to me, he had arranged to go to the pub with his mates from work. Just as I was beginning to wonder where he was he rang me from the pub to explain that ?the A-team? (yes, he really does call them that) had met their sales? target this month so he?d been ?forced? to celebrate (scoff a stupidly hot curry and down industrial-sized quantities of lager) with the others.

NICK you utter cunt.

OP posts:
Bogeyface · 15/01/2012 18:08

I dont think she is being uber U, but on the other hand, he is such a dickless wonder 99% of the time that I am impressed he can handle a curry and some beer. Infact I am amazed he managed to get her pg at all!

LeBOF · 15/01/2012 18:08

Is that actually in the book? Grin

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2012 18:08

It probably isn't Nick's anyway.....

LeBOF · 15/01/2012 18:09

He is all creepy wandering massagey hands

Bogeyface · 15/01/2012 18:10

I knew something was up as my period was two weeks late

You know its totally divorced from reality because she doesnt test (despite being TTC) until 2 weeks after her AF is due! If that was real life, she would be writing it from a week before it was due wondering if the shadow on the test is a faint positive :o
