I'm finding it more and more irritating as time goes on. I don't just shove it all into my pocket, you know.

Actually yes its one of my pet hates but I always get Hmm looks if I rant so I've learned over the years to shut up about it.

coraltoes · 18/11/2011 13:15

This drives me MAD

Clossaintjacques · 18/11/2011 13:16

Yes and then the receipt on top of it all!! GRRR!

Scholes34 · 18/11/2011 13:16

Same here - note, receipt, change. I stand and put it all away neatly in my purse before moving off and allowing the next customer in.

Andrewofgg · 18/11/2011 13:17

I prefer it. The coins hold down the notes while I take them in the other hand; then I dump the coins in my pocket and fold the notes.

This could be like Brobdingnag and the Big-endians and the Little-endians!

ManCrushedToDeathByALift · 18/11/2011 13:17

So annoying. YANBU.

littleducks · 18/11/2011 13:18

I quite like it Blush I prefer it if people give me money without actually touching me.....and quite frequently do shove it all in my pocket!

ruddynorah · 18/11/2011 13:19

I like coins on top. Slide coins in open ready purse, then notes go in note holder bit. I don't see the problem.

crazycanuck · 18/11/2011 13:19

So how would you prefer it be handed to you? Confused

Good grief - another thing I had no idea people got annoyed about before I discovered MN!

bumpybecky · 18/11/2011 13:20

I like it with coins on top :) what would you prefer?

DelGirl · 18/11/2011 13:21

you are not alone, mild irritation though, no more, no less.

SarahStratton · 18/11/2011 13:21

I prefer it, the coins are on top of the notes so you can use the notes as a little chute to pour the coins into your purse. Much easier.

tethersend · 18/11/2011 13:23

This makes me incandescent with rage.

It should be coins first, then notes, so you can fold the notes away then tip the coins into purse.

Ktay · 18/11/2011 13:23

Yanbu, the notes tend to be just shiny enough to make the coins slide around everywhere en route to the relevant section of my purse. Waitrose green charity coins add an extra dimension of complexity but dd wouldn't let me get away with turning those down.

LadyBeagleEyes · 18/11/2011 13:23

I just shove it in my purse and sort it later.
Grin at Scholes putting it all away neatly in her purse before moving away to let the next customer in.
Now that's annoying.

"So how would you prefer it be handed to you?"

coins in palm and then I can take notes between thumb and forefinger.

Other hand can then open purse/wallet, place notes in note compartment whilst grasping coins in a fist to prevent escape, and then deposit coins in coin section.

This method has the least risk of dropping money.

FantasticVoyage · 18/11/2011 13:32

I've had to develop the habit of keeping a beady eye on the cashier, seeing what he/she is about to do.

If I can see the note(s) coming first, I move my hand away and say "Coins first, please". I usually have to repeat this at least once before it registers.

Pascha · 18/11/2011 13:32

Especially when you're juggling a bag, and your handbag and probably a squirming toddler too. Give me my coins first then I will take the note and receipt with thumb and forefinger. The receipt and note can then be put away first and the coins in the purse last.

MackerelOfFact · 18/11/2011 13:32

I have no problem with this. Surely it's worse if the note is balanced on top and then invariably drifts to the floor when you move your hand?

Much easier just to slide coins off the note into the coin bit than worrying what to do with a loose note whilst trying to contain and deposit lots of loose coins.

Flanelle · 18/11/2011 13:34

I use the note to funnel the change into my coin purse and then fold the note into my wallet. My wallet and coin purse fit neatly together into my left hand, and I always have both ready. Grin

PenguinArmy · 18/11/2011 13:34

actually what annoys me is when they put it down on the counter for you to then try and pick up clumsily.

knockkneedandknackered · 18/11/2011 13:36

Confused id have thought it would be easy toput change on top to hold notes down.
