I'm finding it more and more irritating as time goes on. I don't just shove it all into my pocket, you know.

sleepyfergus you are wrong, it's coins, notes, receipt, loyalty card and parking ticket.

ShockinHolyTempers · 18/11/2011 21:16

Another thing that boils my piss is the slow dozy bastards that hog the packing area for ages after the cashier has finished scanning and only then it occurs to them to unzip their bag, fish around for their purse, extract the money/card whatever AFTER they've packed all their items with the efficiency of a drunk chimp!

Just give the cashier the payment when she's ready, get your shit and fuck off. If you have special ways of packing do it at your own leisure off somewhere else, in the boot of your car or whatever.

When another persons shopping is being scanned you should be GONE!!

TuftyFinch · 18/11/2011 21:19

I just say 'keep the change'.

randommoment · 18/11/2011 21:23

YANBU. I date back to pre-electronic till days too, I had to learn how to count up the change in my Saturday job, and we placed the coins in the outstretched hand, allowed it to curl round them, then handed the notes and the receipt so they could be taken between thumb and forefinger. The owner of the shop got quite aerated if you didn't do it this way. I've lost count of the number of times I've ended up scrabbling around trying to pick up flying coins off a shiny new note.
And going off sideways, I still always check the receipt. Even Waitrose nods occasionally. As for Tesco, they are past masters of failing to match the shelf tickets with the till computers.

randommoment · 18/11/2011 21:24

I do move away from the till before checking the receipt before ShockinHolyTempers lives up to her nickname.

TuftyFinch · 18/11/2011 21:24

Shocking I have to disagree. I take my sweet time in packing my bags and REALLY resent anyone who tries to make me do it quicker. I'm not going to spend £100 in Sainsburys to then just quickly chuck it into bags. I pack fridge, freezer, larder, toiletries in their own bags otherwise unpacking is a nightmare. I'm paying. I'll take as long as I like. If they were giving it away free-fair enough but until they do I'll pack my bags how I like thanks.

marriedinwhite · 18/11/2011 21:28

Oooh no! Spent £186.97 in Waitrose tonight (yes, I know Waitrose shopper but have teenage dc who are growing eat a lot). It's a nice shopping environment and the staff are well trained charming.

Having spent that much - expect cheerful convo with Pauline, Carol or Lynne (they go out boozing together and Pauline's being having trouble with her ticker). Expect them to make a comment about the booze in the trolley and the fact I have bought an Indian because I am a lazy cow overworked and tired on a Friday night.

They are brilliant at giving me coins, notes, receipt, and asking me for my parking ticket. In fact even if they have longer queues because they spend time chatting are nice to their customers, I will join their queues.

manticlimactic · 18/11/2011 21:32

I give coins in palm the notes (with receipt). But by the looks of this thread no matter which way a cashier hands you the money, it's wrong.

'actually what annoys me is when they put it down on the counter for you to then try and pick up clumsily'

This ^ really annoys me. If the customer gives it to me that way then I presume they don't want any contact so put it down on the counter for them too. Grin

ShockinHolyTempers · 18/11/2011 21:45

Tufty, yeh unfortunately I'm well aware some people have your attitude. It just baffles me how you can want to delay/inconvenience other people on purpose when it makes no difference to them. It's anti social and selfish.

ShockinHolyTempers · 18/11/2011 21:46

Should have said when it makes no difference to you

TuftyFinch · 18/11/2011 21:53

It's not anti-social! It's not a race. I usually have to do the shopping with two young DCs and packing in this way makes it easier. I don't delay other people. I load the conveyor belt in the order I'm going to pack it.

Tufty - I'm with you. I don't deliberately delay packing my shopping but it gets right on my wick when the cashier starts putting through the next shoppers shopping if I'm still packing the last few items. Likewise, I ask the cashier to wait scanning my stuff until the person in front of me is ready to go.

Just common sense. What's an extra couple of minutes to wait?

usualsuspect · 18/11/2011 22:54

Just hurry up ,cashiers have targets to meet and get bollocked if they don't scan quick enough

TuftyFinch · 18/11/2011 23:00

Thank you for that voice of reason Fergus. In my Sainsbury's they never start on the next person's shopping until the previous shopper has finished and said goodbye.

Usual, is that true

usualsuspect · 18/11/2011 23:02

yes its true Tufty ,would I lie to you

TuftyFinch · 18/11/2011 23:05

I'm not quite sure Usual. It's all getting a bit Douglas Coupland on here tonight. Have I had too much wine or do I need more? Where's the line.

usualsuspect · 18/11/2011 23:12

you always need more wine tuftywogan

TuftyFinch · 18/11/2011 23:14

ok i'll go with that.

i did consider that name but wouldn't it be too obvious? I wouldn't want my dad to get wind of it.
